Nostalgic Love 5: Their child must be beautiful

Three days after I was discharged from the hospital, Ji Chuan returned in the early morning. 0

In the night, he gently stroked my belly and leaned in to kiss my forehead, but I couldn't help but pull away. 0

He noticed and tightened his embrace slightly, his voice low and husky as he asked, "What are you avoiding?" 0

I paused for a moment before replying, "I'm tired." 0

I didn’t ask him why he hadn’t answered my calls or why he had been seen with Feng Yao in Paris. My coldness seemed to unsettle him. 0

"Qin Qin, I... I grew up with Yao Yao. Sometimes I unconsciously take care of her a bit more, but I love you." 0

Ji Chuan wanted to explain, but I no longer wished to listen. 0

"I understand; you see her as a sister, so it’s natural to care for her more," I replied softly. 0

Ji Chuan was taken aback; he hadn’t expected me to be so calm. His expression became somewhat awkward, and his gaze flickered away. 0

"Qin Qin, how is the baby?" Ji Chuan changed the subject. 0

"The baby is good. Can you accompany me to IKEA tomorrow to buy a crib?" 0

I no longer wanted to tell him how helpless I felt when I was sick in the hospital and couldn’t find him. 0

"Sure," Ji Chuan replied readily. 0

The entire night, I felt trapped in a dream. 0

In the dream, Ji Chuan was always just out of reach, elusive and distant. 0

I recalled the day I received my first paycheck. Ji Chuan said that once he earned enough money, he would take me to Paris. We would climb the three hundred steps to overlook the entire city together. He would take me to the Aegean Sea, where we could gaze at the azure waters from an island. 0

But now, he had already gone to Paris with Feng Yao. 0

Where will they go next? 0
After getting up in the morning, I prepared breakfast for Ji Chuan. 0
He came out in his pajamas, still half-asleep, and hugged me from behind. 0
I gently turned my head to avoid further contact. 0
Before he could raise any questions, I took the initiative to say, "Go wash up; breakfast is ready." 0
He didn’t say anything in response, just reached out to touch my forehead. 0
"At your service, my wife." 0
After finishing breakfast, there was still plenty left. He looked at it and said, "I'll pack some for the office." 0
"Okay." I arranged the leftover ingredients into a heart shape. 0
After Ji Chuan left, I planned to go to the hospital for a prenatal checkup. 0
On the way to the hospital, I scrolled through my social media feed. 0
I saw an unfamiliar profile picture had been updated. 0
"Morning love breakfast." 0
The same thermal container, the same heart shape. 0
I liked the post and went to comment. 0
"Tasty? I'll cook for you next time." 0

My sixth sense seemed to be warning me that something bad was about to happen. 0
I stood at the entrance of the hospital for quite a while before finally stepping inside. 0
After registering, I quietly waited in line at the obstetrics and gynecology department. 0
About half an hour later, Ji Chuan and Feng Yao walked in. 0
Li Yao was holding her stomach, and Ji Chuan gently wrapped his arms around her, occasionally fixing her hair that had slipped down. 0
"A Chuan, my stomach hurts a lot," Feng Yao said weakly. 0

Ji Chuan gently helped her to sit down in a chair. He lowered his head slightly, speaking softly to comfort her. I tried to recall if Ji Chuan had ever comforted me in such a gentle manner. I believed the answer was yes. 0

By nature, I was reserved and preferred to keep my troubles to myself. At work, I didn’t enjoy chatting with colleagues, but when I returned home, I would often complain to him about my job. He would set aside his work to listen attentively, then help me analyze the situation. It seemed he treated Feng Yao the same way. 0

Another pregnant woman nearby looked at the two of them and remarked, "They really look good together; their child will surely be beautiful." 0
