"Is this bride really that unreliable? How can she be late for such a big event as a wedding? Could she be running away from the marriage? Young people these days are truly something."
Hearing these discussions, Liu Fangfang's expression darkened even further. She leaned closer to Ke Wenbo and whispered, "Wenbo, what's going on with Dai Xinyi? Can you get in touch with her?"
Ke Wenbo's face had turned ashen. He pulled out his phone and dialed Dai Xinyi's number again, but once more, there was no answer. His heart sank to the bottom, a chill running from his feet to the top of his head.
His hand trembled slightly as he held the phone, feeling as if his blood was about to freeze. He struggled to maintain a facade of calm, but inside, turmoil raged like a storm. The guests began to stir, a cacophony of speculations and discussions buzzing around him like annoying mosquitoes, driving him to distraction.
At that moment, a figure quietly slipped into the corner of the banquet hall. It was Lin Xiaoxuan, Fang Jing Shu's best friend. Today, she had deliberately worn a light blue dress that accentuated her beautiful figure and fair skin. She scanned the room with an anxious look in her eyes, seemingly searching for something.
Lin Xiaoxuan's gaze finally landed on Fang Jing Shu. Fang Jing Shu sat alone in the corner, holding a glass of champagne that she hadn't touched. Her head was lowered, her eyes vacant, as if the entire world had nothing to do with her.
Lin Xiaoxuan knew that Fang Jing Shu had harbored feelings for Ke Wenbo for many years. This wedding was undoubtedly a tremendous blow for her.
Gently, Lin Xiaoxuan sat down beside Fang Jing Shu. "Jing Shu, are you okay?" she asked with concern.
Fang Jing Shu looked up and forced out a faint smile. "I'm fine, just a bit tired."
Lin Xiaoxuan didn't believe her words. She took Fang Jing Shu's hand and felt it was icy cold. "Don't pretend to be strong; I know you're hurting inside. If you want to cry, just let it out; don't hold it back."
Finally, tears streamed down Fang Jing Shu's face as she leaned on Lin Xiaoxuan's shoulder, crying like a child. Lin Xiaoxuan gently patted her back and comforted her. "It's okay; this will all pass. You still have me; I will always be here for you."
"But I really like him," Fang Jing Shu choked out.
"I know, I know." Lin Xiaoxuan sighed. She understood how deep Fang Jing Shu's feelings for Ke Wenbo were and what this wedding meant to her.
"Why did he choose her? What do I lack compared to her?" Fang Jing Shu raised her head, her eyes filled with resentment and grievance.
Lin Xiaoxuan looked at Fang Jing Shu's tear-streaked face and felt a pang of sympathy in her heart. She wanted to tell Fang Jing Shu that she was a hundred times better than Dai Xinyi, even a thousand times better. But saying anything now would only make her feel worse.
"Maybe there really is some misunderstanding between them," Lin Xiaoxuan could only offer this consolation.
"Misunderstanding? What kind of misunderstanding could make a bride run away on her wedding day?" Fang Jing Shu laughed bitterly; she didn't love him at all—she was just playing with his feelings!
Lin Xiaoxuan fell silent. She didn't know how to refute Fang Jing Shu's words; deep down, she also felt that Dai Xinyi's actions were suspicious.
Ke Wenbo took a deep breath, struggling to suppress the anger boiling within him. He glanced around; the whispers of the guests pierced his eardrums like needles.
