He would occasionally confide his pain to Dai Xinyi, even resorting to self-harm, such as cutting his wrists or taking sleeping pills. Dai Xinyi, kind-hearted as she was, felt a pang of sorrow every time she saw Zhang Tian like this, which only made her care for him more.
Li Bo had repeatedly advised Dai Xinyi to stay away from Zhang Tian, but each time he was met with her rebuttal: "Why do you always have a bias against my friend? He’s just sick and needs my help."
Li Bo felt helpless, as if he were a fool being manipulated by Zhang Tian. He worked hard to provide a better life for Dai Xinyi, only to realize that his efforts had become tools for Zhang Tian’s exploitation.
Meanwhile, in another scene, Fang Jing Shu was sitting in the office of the experienced traditional Chinese doctor, He Xiu Zhen, who was well-respected in the community. As she took Fang Jing Shu's pulse, He Xiu Zhen asked, "You’re newly married, yet your complexion seems lacking. Is there something troubling you?"
Fang Jing Shu smiled shyly and replied, "Doctor He, I’m a bit worried."
He Xiu Zhen released Fang Jing Shu's wrist and inquired, "Worried about what? Is your married life not harmonious?"
Fang Jing Shu's face flushed instantly as she waved her hands in denial. "No, no! I’m just worried that I won’t be a good wife."
He Xiu Zhen chuckled softly and said, "My dear girl, there’s nothing to worry about. The most important thing between husband and wife is mutual understanding and tolerance. You’re just overthinking it. I’ll prescribe you some medicine to help regulate your energy and blood; relax your mind, and everything will be fine."
After a pause, she added, "Also, after marriage, you need to pay attention to your diet. Avoid eating too much raw or spicy food and focus on nourishing your energy and blood. Additionally, marital relations should be moderate; don’t indulge excessively or it could harm your health."
Fang Jing Shu's face turned even redder as she lowered her head and softly replied, "I understand. Thank you, Doctor He."
Seeing Fang Jing Shu's shy demeanor, He Xiu Zhen smiled kindly. She took an ancient book from her drawer and handed it to Fang Jing Shu. "This book contains some advice on marital relationships; take it home and read it. It might help you."
Dai Xinyi rushed to the hospital and found Zhang Tian lying on the hospital bed with bandages wrapped around his wrists and a pale complexion. Heartbroken, she held his hand tightly and choked out, "Tian, what happened? Why did you do something so foolish?"
Zhang Tian managed a weak smile and said, "Dai Xinyi, I’m fine; I just miss you too much." After a pause, he added, "Seeing you so happy with Li Bo is something I can’t bear."
Filled with guilt, Dai Xinyi felt she was letting both Zhang Tian and Li Bo down. Unsure of what to do next, she could only hold Zhang Tian's hand tightly while tears streamed down her face.
At that moment, Wang Lina walked in. Seeing the scene before her made her heart sink. She approached Dai Xinyi and gently patted her shoulder. "Dai Xinyi, we need to talk outside."
Once they were in the hospital corridor, Wang Lina got straight to the point: "Dai Xinyi, you can’t keep going on like this. Is it worth it to abandon Li Bo for Zhang Tian?"
Dai Xinyi was taken aback; she hadn’t expected Wang Lina to say that. She defended herself: "Lina, you misunderstand me! I just want to help him."
Wang Lina scoffed and replied, "Help him? Are you helping him or harming yourself? Have you considered that Zhang Tian’s depression might be an act?"
Dai Xinyi’s eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at Wang Lina. She had never thought of that possibility.
Wang Lina continued: "Dai Xinyi, you’re too naive; you’ve been deceived by Zhang Tian. He doesn’t have depression; he’s just using you to try to take you away from Li Bo."
Dai Xinyi felt as if her heart had been pierced by a needle; she began to doubt her previous judgments. She recalled how Li Bo had warned her multiple times to stay away from Zhang Tian while she had stubbornly ignored him—even arguing with Li Bo over it.
"It’s impossible; he wouldn’t lie to me," Dai Xinyi murmured to herself, filled with inner turmoil.
