At that moment, the curtains of Li Wenbo's house fluttered slightly, revealing the figures of Li Father and Mother Li behind the door. They witnessed this scene, their hearts filled with mixed emotions. Mother Li sighed with concern and said to Li Father, "This child is truly pitiful."
Li Father patted his wife's shoulder, offering comfort. "The children will have their own fortunes; we shouldn't interfere too much. Wenbo has made his choice, and we should support him."
Mother Li nodded, her eyes filled with helplessness. They understood that their son had grown up; he had his own thoughts and judgments. All they could do was silently support him and wish him well.
Dai Xinyi stood at the entrance of Li Wenbo's house for a long time before finally turning away in silence. She didn’t know where to go or what to do. All she knew was that her life had completely unraveled.
As the sun set, it cast a long shadow of her figure, mirroring her confused future.
After Dai Xinyi left, an eerie silence enveloped Li Wenbo's home. Li Father and Mother Li returned to their room, leaving Li Wenbo and Fang Jing Shu to face this sudden new chapter of their lives alone.
In the living room, remnants of wedding decorations hung around, creating a stark irony. Fang Jing Shu sat awkwardly on the sofa, nervously twisting the hem of her dress. Meanwhile, Li Wenbo stood by the window, gazing in the direction where Dai Xinyi had disappeared, his expression complicated.
"I'll go tidy up a bit," Fang Jing Shu broke the silence and got up to start gathering the scattered wedding candies and gift boxes.
Li Wenbo turned to look at her busy figure, feeling a mix of emotions swirling within him. He was supposed to start a new life with Dai Xinyi, yet here he was sharing a space with another woman. This sense of dislocation made him feel suffocated.
"Let it be; we don’t need to clean up," Li Wenbo said as he walked over to her side, his tone heavy.
Fang Jing Shu paused her movements and looked up at him. "Wenbo, are you... okay?"
Li Wenbo forced a bitter smile. "Do I seem okay? The bride ran away on our wedding day, and I ended up marrying the bridesmaid—what kind of situation is this?"
Fang Jing Shu bit her lip but remained silent. She understood the pain that Li Wenbo was feeling but didn’t know how to comfort him.
"I'm sorry, Fang Jing Shu; I shouldn’t take my emotions out on you," Li Wenbo realized his outburst and softened his tone.
"It’s alright; I understand," Fang Jing Shu managed a strained smile.
In the following days, both tried to avoid mentioning Dai Xinyi and pretended that everything was normal. However, this forced atmosphere only highlighted the awkwardness between them.
They felt like two strangers sharing a roof yet unable to find common ground. During meals, they sat across from each other in silence, with only the clinking of utensils echoing in the room. At night, they slept in separate beds with an insurmountable chasm between them.
Lin Xiaoxuan noticed Fang Jing Shu's unusual demeanor and visited almost every day. She brought various snacks and gossip magazines in an attempt to distract Fang Jing Shu.
"Fang Jing Shu, you don’t look well lately; have you not been resting?" Lin Xiaoxuan asked with concern.
Fang Jing Shu forced a smile. "Maybe; things have been quite hectic recently."
"Don’t work too hard; it’s your honeymoon phase—you should enjoy it more," Lin Xiaoxuan teased playfully.
Fang Jing Shu's face flushed red as she awkwardly lowered her head. "We... we’re not..."
Lin Xiaoxuan saw through her forced cheerfulness and sighed. "Fang Jing Shu, don’t hide it from me; I know you’re not okay. Wenbo... he’s still thinking about Dai Xinyi, isn’t he?"
