Dai Xinyi looked up to see a handsome man standing in front of her, holding a cup of coffee.
"I'm Lin Hao, the Director of the Planning Department," he said with a smile. "You must be the new Dai Xinyi. I've heard from Xiao Zhang that you're quite impressive, an elite from the city."
Dai Xinyi forced a smile and replied, "Director Lin, you're too kind. I still have a long way to go."
"Don't be modest; I have high hopes for you," Lin Hao said, patting her on the shoulder. "This project may be challenging, but it's also a great opportunity for you to grow. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me anytime."
In the days that followed, Lin Hao provided Dai Xinyi with a lot of support. He not only guided her in her work but also often took her out for meals and introduced her to colleagues at the company. Gradually, Dai Xinyi began to adapt to her new environment and became more proficient in her job.
However, good times didn't last long. At a company gathering one night, Dai Xinyi accidentally drank too much and ended up vomiting all over Lin Hao. Surprisingly, rather than getting angry, Lin Hao took care of her attentively and helped her get home.
"Are you okay?" he asked, supporting her with concern in his voice.
Dai Xinyi shook her head and drunkenly replied, "I'm fine, thank you, Lin Hao."
"That's good to hear," Lin Hao smiled, a hint of gentle warmth flickering in his eyes.
Dai Xinyi gradually got used to the fast-paced and high-pressure life in the city, rushing between the office and her cramped rental apartment every day. Lin Hao's presence felt like a ray of sunshine breaking through the grayness of her life.
He would bring her hot coffee during late-night overtime, patiently comfort her when her proposals were rejected, and take her out on weekends to explore new attractions in the city. Dai Xinyi couldn't deny that she felt something for this sudden attention; however, deep down, the shadow of Kebo still lingered.
She was like a frightened little bird, carefully guarding her fragile heart and afraid to embrace new feelings too easily.
One night, after working late again, Dai Xinyi dragged her weary body back to her rental apartment. Under the dim light, she noticed an unread call from an unfamiliar number on her phone. After hesitating for a moment, she decided to call back.
"Dai Xinyi, it's me," came a familiar voice from the other end of the line, making Dai Xinyi's heart sink.
It was Zhang Tian.
"How did you get my number?" Dai Xinyi's tone was cold and laced with suspicion.
"Don't be nervous; I just wanted to check in on how you're doing," Zhang Tian's voice sounded calm, even carrying a hint of concern.
