Dai Xinyi let out a cold laugh, "Whether I'm good or not has nothing to do with you."
Zhang Tianming paused, a hint of guilt in his tone. "I know you're still upset with me about that day at the wedding. I realize I was wrong to push you like that; I was just so afraid of losing you."
Dai Xinyi took a deep breath, trying to suppress the anger boiling within her. "Zhang Tianming, it's over between us. Do you understand? I just want to focus on my work and my life right now. Please stop bothering me."
With that, Dai Xinyi hung up the phone without hesitation, her heart racing. She hadn’t expected Zhang Tianming to reach out to her, nor did she anticipate him speaking to her in such a tone. A sense of unease spread through her.
In the following days, Zhang Tianming called and texted Dai Xinyi daily, checking in on her and even ordering takeout and sending gifts. Frustrated, Dai Xinyi blocked all his contact methods. However, Zhang Tianming didn’t give up; he began waiting for her outside her office building, creating chances for them to run into each other.
"Dai Xinyi, what a coincidence! Here we are again," Zhang Tianming said with a fake smile, as if nothing had happened.
Dai Xinyi looked at him coldly and remained silent.
"How about we grab lunch together? Just like old friends catching up," he continued stubbornly.
"We are not friends," Dai Xinyi replied firmly, turning to leave.
Zhang Tianming grabbed her arm, his voice tinged with desperation. "Dai Xinyi, give me a chance to make amends for my mistakes, okay?"
Dai Xinyi forcefully shook off his hand and said with disgust, "Your so-called amends involve constantly harassing my life? Zhang Tianming, this is your last warning—stop following me or I will call the police!"
With that, she walked away without looking back. She felt sick; Zhang Tianming was like an unwanted adhesive that suffocated her.
That night, Lin Hao invited Dai Xinyi to watch a movie. Initially wanting to refuse due to thoughts of Zhang Tianming, she changed her mind. Perhaps being with Lin Hao would help her temporarily forget the unpleasantness.
In the cinema, Lin Hao thoughtfully bought popcorn and cola for Dai Xinyi. After the movie ended, he walked her home.
"Honestly," Dai Xinyi said sincerely, "I feel much more relaxed when I'm with you."
Lin Hao smiled and looked into her eyes. "Dai Xinyi, I know you have many concerns in your heart. I hope you can give me a chance to take care of you."
Dai Xinyi was taken aback; she hadn’t expected Lin Hao to confess so directly. Looking into his sincere eyes, she felt the tightly shut door of her heart begin to crack open slightly.
Her heart skipped a beat as a wave of panic washed over her. Before she could respond to Lin Hao, an abrasive voice shattered the delicate atmosphere. "Dai Xinyi! What a coincidence! Here we meet again."
Zhang Tianming emerged from somewhere unexpected, his face lit up with surprise as if he hadn’t heard Lin Hao's heartfelt confession at all. Lin Hao’s expression darkened instantly as he unconsciously tightened his grip on Dai Xinyi's hand.
Dai Xinyi discreetly pulled her hand away and took a deep breath, suppressing her disgust as she addressed Zhang Tianming. "Are you following me?"
Zhang Tianming feigned innocence, spreading his hands wide. "Dai Xinyi, don’t misunderstand; I just happened to pass by here and didn’t expect to run into you. It seems we really are fated."
