After all, her intense relationship with Li Wenbo had just ended; how could she possibly move on so quickly? However, the development of feelings often takes unexpected turns.
That day, Dai Xinyi worked late and stepped out of the office building around ten o'clock at night. The autumn wind was chilly, and she wrapped her coat tighter around herself, yet she still felt a shiver. Suddenly, a black sedan stopped in front of her, and the window slowly rolled down to reveal Lin Hao's concerned smile.
"Why are you getting off work so late? I called you, but you didn’t answer," Lin Hao said, a hint of reproach in his voice.
Dai Xinyi suddenly remembered her phone was on silent. She smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I got busy and forgot."
"Get in; I'll give you a ride home," Lin Hao said as he opened the passenger door.
Dai Xinyi hesitated for a moment but eventually got into the car. The warmth inside was like spring, a stark contrast to the cold outside. She couldn't help but shiver again.
"Are you cold?" Lin Hao asked with concern.
"Yeah, a little," Dai Xinyi nodded.
Lin Hao reached out to turn on the heater and then handed her a thermos. "Drink some hot water to warm yourself up."
Dai Xinyi took the thermos, and warmth spread from her fingertips throughout her body. Inside was ginger tea sweetened with brown sugar, exuding a faint ginger aroma and sweetness. After taking a sip, she felt much more comfortable.
"You know how I—" Dai Xinyi started but was interrupted by Lin Hao.
"I know you always forget to eat when you work late, so I specially prepared ginger tea for you." His tone was gentle yet firm. "From now on, I'll pick you up after work every night. How about that?"
Dai Xinyi's heart skipped a beat. She looked up into Lin Hao's deep eyes and found herself at a loss for words.
"No need to trouble yourself," she instinctively wanted to refuse.
"It's no trouble; I enjoy picking you up," Lin Hao said with an undeniable tone.
Looking into Lin Hao's determined gaze, an inexplicable feeling of warmth surged within Dai Xinyi. She lowered her head and softly replied with an "mm."
In that moment, Dai Xinyi realized that her feelings for Lin Hao were more than just reliance and gratitude.
In the days that followed, Lin Hao would arrive punctually every day to take Dai Xinyi to and from work. He brought her breakfast, accompanied her while shopping, and told jokes to cheer her up when she was feeling down. Dai Xinyi gradually grew accustomed to his company and even began to look forward to their daily meetings.
Lin Hao's thoughtfulness and care nourished Dai Xinyi's parched heart like spring rain. She started to enjoy this feeling of being cherished; even in moments of unguarded bliss, she would forget Li Wenbo and the wedding that had once pierced her heart. However, whenever the night grew quiet after Lin Hao left, Dai Xinyi would inevitably fall into deep guilt and confusion. She felt as if she had betrayed Li Wenbo and their once cherished love.
