The next day, Fang Jing Shu suppressed the turmoil within her and pretended to be nonchalant as she saw Kebo out the door. Once he left, she immediately contacted Huang Guoqiang to arrange a meeting at a secluded café.
When Fang Jing Shu arrived, Huang Guoqiang was already seated. He was of average height, wearing a pair of rimless glasses, and appeared quite refined, not at all like someone who would gossip. This only deepened Fang Jing Shu's confusion; why was he doing this?
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Fang Jing Shu got straight to the point. "Mr. Huang, were those things you mentioned yesterday true?"
Huang Guoqiang did not answer directly. Instead, he pulled out a brown paper bag from his messenger bag and pushed it across the table towards her. "Take a look for yourself."
Fang Jing Shu hesitated for a moment but eventually opened the bag. Inside was a stack of photographs, clearer than what she had seen on her phone the previous day. The images depicted Kebo and Dai Xinyi in intimate poses. A wave of nausea surged through her stomach as she felt her insides churn.
"These photos were taken two days ago," Huang Guoqiang said calmly. "The timestamps on them can confirm that Kebo specifically flew over that day."
Suddenly, Fang Jing Shu recalled that Kebo had indeed told her two days prior that he was going on a business trip to meet an important client. It turned out he wasn't going on a business trip at all; he was meeting his ex-lover!
"Why... why are you showing me this?" Fang Jing Shu's voice trembled as tears welled up in her eyes.
Huang Guoqiang sighed. "Miss Fang, I know this is cruel to you, but I can't stand by and watch Kebo behave like this—having his cake and eating it too."
"He’s marrying you while still maintaining ties with his ex-girlfriend. What does he think of you? A substitute?"
"A substitute..." Fang Jing Shu murmured, feeling as if her heart was being sliced open. She had always believed that Kebo just needed time to forget his past, but now it seemed she had been wrong from the start; she was merely Dai Xinyi's replacement—a ridiculous backup!
"Miss Fang, I know you love Kebo deeply, but you must think of yourself as well. You deserve better than to waste your time and emotions on someone who doesn't love you," Huang Guoqiang said earnestly.
Fang Jing Shu fought back her tears and nodded. She knew he was right; she could no longer deceive herself. She needed to leave Kebo and start anew!
Huang Guoqiang adjusted his glasses, the lenses catching a glimmer of light. He paused for a moment before speaking again, his tone becoming hesitant. "Miss Fang, I've actually known you for quite some time now; I fell for you at first sight."
Fang Jing Shu looked up abruptly, shock written all over her face. This sudden confession left her even more bewildered. Why would this man say such things when she was at her most vulnerable?
"I know this is abrupt," Huang Guoqiang seemed to realize how awkward it sounded and gave an embarrassed smile. "I’ve kept these feelings buried deep inside me. Seeing you marry Kebo, I genuinely wish you well; I just can’t bear to watch him treat you this way."
Fang Jing Shu took a deep breath, striving to maintain her composure. "Mr. Huang, I don’t understand what you mean."
Huang Guoqiang looked at her with complex emotions in his eyes. "Miss Fang, do you truly believe Kebo is sincere with you? His marriage to you is merely because you're gentle and caring—someone who can fill the void left by Dai Xinyi's departure. You are just a substitute, a tool for him to heal!"
