She was afraid, afraid that if she called the police, things would escalate, involving more people and causing her newly established life to collapse once again. Zhao Shanhe noticed Dai Xinyi's weakness and fear; he smirked, his laughter lewd and grating. "Miss Dai, what are you afraid of? I won’t eat you." He paused, pretending to adjust his collar like a gentleman. "I just want to be friends with you. Look at you, so beautiful and with such a figure—what man wouldn’t be tempted?"
Dai Xinyi fought back her disgust, striving to remain calm. "Zhao Shanhe, what do you want?" She knew that if she didn’t satisfy this man’s demands today, he wouldn’t let her off easily.
Zhao Shanhe rubbed his hands together, a glimmer of greed flashing in his eyes. "It's simple. Spend three nights with me, and I’ll disappear from your life, never to disturb you again. How does that sound?" He held up three fingers in front of Dai Xinyi as if showcasing a rare treasure.
A chill shot from her feet to the top of her head; she trembled all over, nearly losing her balance. "You must be dreaming!" she gritted out through clenched teeth.
Zhao Shanhe wasn’t angry at all; instead, he laughed even more brazenly. "Miss Dai, don’t reject me so quickly. Just think about it—three nights for a clean life afterward. It’s a good deal." He paused for effect and added, "And I’m quite skilled."
Dai Xinyi could no longer hold back; with a sharp slap, she struck Zhao Shanhe across the face. Her body shook as tears streamed down uncontrollably. "You are shameless!"
Zhao Shanhe took the slap without any sign of anger; instead, he licked his lips and revealed a wicked smile. "Oh, that was quite spicy! I like it." He slowly stood up from the ground, dusting himself off nonchalantly. "I know you can’t accept this right now. No worries; I have plenty of time. Whenever you’re ready to think it over, just find me."
With that, he turned and left, leaving Dai Xinyi standing alone in place, trembling and tear-streaked.
Dai Xinyi felt as if she had fallen into an endless abyss, despair and fear tightly wrapping around her. She didn’t know what to do or whom to turn to for help. Like an injured little beast, she curled up in a corner, silently licking her wounds.
Stumbling back to her rented apartment, she collapsed helplessly onto the sofa. Zhao Shanhe's words pierced her mind like poisonous needles, making it hard for her to breathe. She covered her face as tears slipped through her fingers and fell onto the sofa, creating dark spots.
She couldn’t understand why this was happening to her. She had once had a perfect fiancé, an upcoming happy wedding, and a future full of hope. But all of that had shattered because of Zhang Tianming and her momentary weakness.
Now, not only had she lost Li Bo but also became prey in Zhao Shanhe's eyes. She felt an overwhelming sense of humiliation and despair as if the entire world had abandoned her.
Meanwhile, Fang Jing Shu had been like a lost soul since returning to her parents' home. At work during the day, she forced herself to focus but remained distracted and inefficient.
In the evenings at home, facing her parents' concerned gazes, she could only force a smile to mask her inner pain.
That day, Fang Jing Shu sat at her desk as usual, mechanically handling tasks when suddenly the office door swung open and Manager Wang walked in.
