The vows exchanged by the couple moved everyone present, and the applause was thunderous.
After the wedding, Ke Wenbo and Fang Jing Shu approached the newlyweds to offer their blessings.
"Jian Guo, Xiao Xuan, congratulations on your marriage! May you have a lifetime of happiness together!" Ke Wenbo raised his glass and said.
"Thank you! We wish you both a happy family as well!" Chen Jianguo and Lin Xiaoxuan responded with smiles.
"By the way, Jian Guo, you better treat Xiao Xuan well. If you dare to bully her, I won’t let you off easily!" Ke Wenbo said half-jokingly, half-seriously.
"Don't worry, Wen Bo. I will cherish her," Chen Jianguo replied earnestly.
"Xiao Xuan, if Jian Guo ever bullies you, just let me know, and I'll take care of him!" Fang Jing Shu added with a smile.
"Thank you, Fang Jing Shu. With your words, I feel reassured," Lin Xiaoxuan said gratefully.
As the excitement of the wedding faded away, Ke Wenbo and Fang Jing Shu returned home. Instead of enjoying a sweet moment together in their new life as a couple, they were greeted by the loud cries of their baby. The little one waved his chubby fists as if protesting against his parents for leaving him to enjoy themselves. Fang Jing Shu skillfully picked up the child and softly hummed a lullaby, her maternal glow shining through. Watching this warm scene, Ke Wenbo felt a surge of warmth in his heart but also a twinge of guilt. Recently, as company projects entered critical phases, he had been working late almost every night, leaving little time to spend with his wife and child.
"Fang Jing Shu, you've worked hard," Ke Wenbo said as he held her hand, his tone filled with regret.
Fang Jing Shu smiled gently and replied, "What nonsense! This is what I should do." However, the fatigue in her eyes was undeniable.
Ke Wenbo understood that this couldn't continue indefinitely. While work was important, family could not be neglected either. The next morning, he submitted a request to adjust his work hours at the company. To his surprise, his boss Gao Daqiang readily agreed.
"Family and work are both important, Wen Bo; you're making the right choice," Gao Daqiang said as he patted him on the shoulder. "I used to be just like you—immersed in work while neglecting my family. Looking back now, I truly regret it."
Gao Daqiang even proposed that the company establish more flexible working hours to help employees balance work and life. This suggestion received overwhelming support from most employees and was quickly implemented.
With more time available, Ke Wenbo began learning how to care for the baby. Changing diapers, feeding him, and soothing him to sleep were all new challenges for him. At first, he was clumsy and often ended up in a mess himself; there were even times when the baby spit up all over him. Fang Jing Shu watched from the side with both amusement and exasperation.
"I think I should handle this," she laughed as she took the baby from him.
"No way! Let me try again," Ke Wenbo insisted; he didn’t want to miss any moment of his child's growth.
Gradually, Ke Wenbo became more skilled and began to enjoy spending time with his child more and more. He would make funny faces at the baby to elicit giggles; he would read stories while watching the child fall asleep sweetly in his arms.
Time slipped away like sand through fingers—quietly and unnoticed. In the blink of an eye, Xiao Mingzhe was nearly two years old. He inherited Ke Wenbo's thick eyebrows and big eyes along with Fang Jing Shu's gentle demeanor; however, this little guy's personality was lively and active like a little monkey—jumping around without a moment's pause.
Ke Wenbo truly experienced what it meant for paternal love to feel as heavy as a mountain—being overwhelmed by it all. Every day at home felt like a game of cat and mouse; Xiao Mingzhe was the cunning mouse darting around energetically while turning everything upside down; Ke Wenbo was the exhausted cat chasing after him to clean up the mess while constantly being on guard against new surprises created by the little one.
