Despite temporarily gaining the upper hand in court, Cheng Huai was not willing to concede defeat. His remaining followers began a frenzied counterattack against us. 0

One day, as I was returning home from work, I was confronted by several men in black. They used a subsonic device typically employed during demolitions by Dangerous Building, creating a chilling "ghostly wail" intended to intimidate me and destroy evidence. The leader of the black-clad men snarled, "If you dare to pursue this any further, you'll be the next one lying in a hospital bed!" 0

I forced myself to remain calm, straightened my back, and shouted, "You can't scare me! I won't give up! Justice will prevail over evil!" My voice was firm, but my legs trembled slightly. 0

At that moment, Zhou Ran suddenly burst out from a nearby alley, wielding a modified baseball bat that had been altered using a Steel Bar Tester! He positioned himself protectively in front of me and shouted, "Try to lay a finger on her, and I'll take you on right here!" The black-clad men were clearly startled by Zhou Ran's sudden appearance but quickly resumed their fierce demeanor, and both sides found themselves locked in a standoff once again. 0

Taking advantage of the distraction, Zhou Ran whispered in my ear, "When I charge at them, you run! Don't look back!" Just as I was about to protest, Zhou Ran swung his bat and charged forward. I gritted my teeth and turned to run as fast as I could. 0

Once home, I recounted the incident to Zhou Ran. He frowned, his eyes filled with worry and anger. "They're going too far! This is outrageous! Don't worry; I'll protect you. I won't let them hurt you!" He said this while gently patting my shoulder. 0

"Zhou Ran, I'm not afraid of them, but I'm worried about you... They can do anything; I'm scared something might happen to you." I looked at him with concern in my eyes, my hands instinctively gripping his arm. 0

"I'm fine as long as you're safe. I'll be careful; trust me." Zhou Ran held my hand and gave me a reassuring look. 0

Moreover, Cheng Huai exploited the media to smear us with various false reports. Seeing those distorted articles filled me with anger and frustration; I clenched the newspaper tightly until my knuckles turned white. "How can he twist the truth like this? He's completely insane!" 0

Zhou Ran comforted me: "Don't pay attention to that; the innocent will clear themselves while the guilty will expose their own corruption. The truth will come out eventually; trust me." I nodded and silently encouraged myself: "Yes, the truth will come out! I can't let these difficulties defeat me! I must persevere!" Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm myself down. 0

But just when things seemed to settle down, another wave of trouble hit us. One day, we suddenly received a notice from the court stating that Cheng Huai had submitted new evidence and requested a retrial. Both Zhou Ran and I felt a sinking feeling in our hearts; we had no idea what trick Cheng Huai was up to now. 0

As we found ourselves in this predicament, an employee who had once worked for Cheng Huai's company approached us at great personal risk. His eyes darted nervously around him as he fidgeted with the hem of his shirt, clearly afraid of being discovered. 0

"I... I have something to give you." His voice was barely above a whisper, trembling with barely concealed fear as he hurriedly pressed a bottle of antihypertensive medication into my hand. "Inside is key evidence that can bring down Cheng Huai—it's a recording of him accepting bribes. I... I was the worker who injected the concrete at Dangerous Building, and my village was forcibly demolished by them. I couldn't bear the guilt any longer, so I secretly took this out. You must be careful; don't let him find out it was me who gave it to you, or I'm as good as dead!" With that, he quickly turned and vanished into the dimly lit street. 0

Zhou Ran and I cautiously opened the bottle and took out the USB drive, plugging it into the computer. The moment the USB connected, the sound of a concrete mixer roared through the speakers. The recording clearly captured Cheng Huai's sycophantic voice and the responses from officials accepting bribes; each word felt like a heavy bomb, striking hard at my heart. "Finally, we have stronger evidence!" I exclaimed, looking at Zhou Ran with glimmering hope in my eyes. "This time Cheng Huai won't escape! He will definitely face legal consequences!" Zhou Ran squeezed my hand tightly and nodded vigorously; we both knew that victory was tipping in our favor. 0

However, as we carefully examined the recording, we noticed repeated mentions of a mysterious "President Zhao." Cheng Huai seemed to hold him in great fear, with many decisions made according to President Zhao's instructions. Zhou Ran and I exchanged glances, both filled with confusion and shock. It seemed that there was indeed someone else behind Cheng Huai, and this person was the true mastermind! 0
