I could no longer tolerate Gunther's hypocritical facade, so I turned to Luke Dunphy and said, "Help me deal with this."
The others didn’t see Luke Dunphy; they thought I was talking to thin air.
"Is there... anyone else here?" one of the staff members asked, puzzled.
"No, Emily can't be scared silly, can she? Starting to talk nonsense?" another staff member mocked.
Suddenly, Gunther's face went pale as he pointed behind me and shouted in terror, "A ghost! It's a ghost!" He scrambled out of the room as if a wolf were chasing him.
"There’s no... ghost..."
"There really is! Right behind her!"
The remaining two staff members were also terrified, screaming as they fled the room.
"All done," Luke Dunphy said with a clap, raising an eyebrow at me smugly.
I rolled my eyes, too lazy to respond to him.
Now the room was left with just me and Bernadette. Oh, right, and the ever-curious Wolf Spirit Luke Dunphy.
Bernadette remained unusually calm, seemingly unfazed by Gunther and the staff's reactions. She simply leaned weakly against the headboard, her gaze vacant as if she had given up the struggle.
It was then that I noticed Bernadette's condition and was taken aback. In just a few hours, she seemed to have aged ten years. Her complexion was sallow, her skin shriveled, and her eye sockets sunken—like someone drained of all vitality, resembling an elderly person on the brink of death.
I could hardly recognize her as the same Bernadette who had been screaming hysterically just hours ago.
"You... you..." Bernadette struggled to speak, her voice hoarse and weak. Before she could finish her sentence, she rolled off the bed and lay helplessly on the floor.
“Emily… Emily, you can save me, right? I saw it… I saw it…”
As she spoke, she trembled and crawled toward me, clutching my pant leg as if it were a lifeline.
“Please, help me… I’m in so much pain…”
She moaned in agony, her body shaking violently. A foul stench unique to the Rogue assaulted my senses, overwhelming and nauseating.
I stepped back in disgust, pulling a chair closer and sitting down at a distance from her.
“No, I can’t save you anymore, Bernadette. The moonlight within you has been completely drained.”
Bernadette cried out in despair, “No, you can save me! You said yesterday that as long as I told you who I slept with, you could save me!”
“I’ll tell you right now… it was Andy Bailey, the owner of Blood Moon Entertainment… it was him!”
“He said that if I spent one night with him, he would let me appear on Partner's Night with Mitchell Pritchett…”
Bernadette babbled incoherently, her gaze vacant and her trembling growing more intense.
“Yes, that’s him! Emily, hurry! I’ve told you!”
“Please save me! Save me! I’ll give you all my money! I beg you…”
She looked like a skeleton, her expression frantic.
If an ordinary person witnessed this scene, they would likely be terrified beyond belief.
Though I was shocked as well, I felt more helpless than anything else.
What surprised me was that the Dead Rogue was actually Andy Bailey, the owner of Blood Moon Entertainment.
Just a month ago, I had dined with him to discuss a collaboration.
I knew him because I was the largest shareholder of the company, which allowed me to arrange for Gunther to work here.
Now it seemed that Andy Bailey’s death was certainly no accident.
When that Rogue returned to drain the remaining moonlight from Bernadette, everything would become clear.
I sighed and said helplessly, “Bernadette, what you’re talking about happened yesterday; it’s too late now. Even if the Moon God came, he couldn’t save you.”
“No! You must have a way! You don’t want to save me! You’re trying to trick me!” Bernadette screamed hysterically.
"Emily, I’ll give you all my money! Please, save me! I’ll give you everything!"
"I don't need your money. This company is mine," I replied, crossing my legs. "I've made it very clear; I can't help you."
"You're so tedious! Just burn her already!" Luke Dunphy said impatiently, a flicker of ghostly blue flames appearing in his hand.
"No. The law of conservation applies; if you burn her, you'll attract unnecessary trouble," I stopped Luke Dunphy.
"We'll just wait for Andy Bailey to arrive."
"Fine, let her be drained slowly then, hmph!"
Luke Dunphy reluctantly extinguished the ghost fire, crossed his arms, and floated to the side to watch the spectacle.
