"Bang!"
The office door was pushed open, and Lynette Scavo stormed in with a group of people.
"Luke Dunphy," she waved the documents in her hand, "this is the consequence of your concealment from the organization."
Luke Dunphy lazily leaned back in his chair. "Oh? Do tell."
"From now on," she proudly lifted her chin, "you are stripped of your position as Young Master, and the Imperial Court Group will be taken over by my father."
I stood to the side, noticing Luke Dunphy's long fingers tapping lightly on the table. Was he... signaling me?
"Is that all you've got?" he said disdainfully. "Miss Lu, you’re too naive."
"Naive?" Lynette Scavo sneered. "Get them!"
The men in black behind her instantly drew their guns, aiming at us.
Oh no, those guns are loaded with silver bullets!
"Now," she walked up to me, "come with me quietly, and I might consider letting him live."
"You think," I raised an eyebrow, "that this small group can take us down?"
She paused, surprised. "You..."
I exchanged a glance with Luke Dunphy.
A smirk played at the corners of his lips as he pressed a button under the table.
"Boom!"
Suddenly, the glass of the entire floor shattered.
Dozens of bodyguards in black descended from above, quickly surrounding Lynette Scavo's men.
"Surprise," Luke Dunphy stood up, adjusting his cuffs. "I've been waiting for this moment for a long time."
Lynette Scavo's expression changed drastically. "You..."
"Chairman Lu is suspected of embezzlement and has already been taken away by the police," he sneered. "Who do you think should take over Wealthy Gala?"
"It’s impossible!" she screamed. "How could you..."
"You know the evidence of your funds hidden in Switzerland," I added with a smile, "has already been sent to the police."
She looked at me in disbelief. "When did you...?"
"Right when you were busy taking my picture," I shrugged. "Sorry, but I’m not just good at turning into a wolf; my hacking skills are pretty decent too."
Lynette Scavo gritted her teeth and suddenly pulled a syringe from her waist. "Then don’t blame me..."
Luke Dunphy was quick to react, pulling me behind him. "Idiot, do you even know what that is?"
"Of course I do," she sneered. "That’s a specially formulated rage serum from Dr. Larry. Once injected, she’ll turn into an uncontrollable beast. And then..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Luke Dunphy stepped forward and twisted her wrist.
"Ah!" The syringe fell to the ground, shattered under his foot.
"Take her away," he ordered coldly.
The bodyguards immediately moved in, subduing Lynette Scavo and her crew.
"Wait!" She struggled furiously. "You don’t understand, Larry Fower... he..."
"Is already under my control," Luke Dunphy interrupted her. "If you want to play, you should know your own limits."
As Lynette Scavo was taken away, I let out a long sigh of relief. "Finally..."
Before I could finish my thought, he suddenly pushed me against the wall. "Who told you to take such risks?"
"Huh?"
"Hacking into the the Lu account?" He narrowed his eyes. "Aren't you afraid of being discovered?"
I rolled my eyes. "What else was I supposed to do? I couldn’t just watch you do it alone..."
"Alone?" He chuckled softly. "Little Wolf Cub, are you worried about me?"
"I..."
He leaned closer, our noses almost touching. "Tell me, are you reluctant to part with me?"
My heart skipped a beat, and I hurriedly changed the subject. "Um, about the organization..."
"What are you afraid of?" His fingers lifted my chin. "I’m here."
"But..."
"However," he seemed to ponder, "you really should pay a price."
"What price—"
Before I could finish my sentence, he lowered his head and kissed me.
His warm breath enveloped me instantly; his kiss was forceful and domineering, leaving no room for refusal.
Wait, this taste...
I suddenly pushed him away. "Have you been drinking?!"
"Just a bit of red wine," he said, licking his lips with lingering desire. "Just to perk me up."
"You..." I suddenly realized, "So you already knew Lynette Scavo would be here today?"
"Otherwise?" He smirked. "You don't think someone as clever as me would actually let her slip through the cracks, do you?"
Seeing his smug expression made me speechless.
"Then why did you let me take the risk of hacking into..."
"How else could I give you a chance to shine?" he chuckled softly. "My Little Wolf Cub, didn't you do quite well?"
"Luke Dunphy!"
"Alright," he said, wrapping his arms around my waist. "Come with me to a place."
"Where to?"
He didn't answer, simply picking me up in a bridal carry.
We passed through the corridor and pushed open a hidden door.
A secret room appeared before us.
In the center of the room sat an ancient wooden box.
"What is this...?"
"This is something your parents left for you," he said softly. "Fifteen years ago, my father found it."
My hands trembled slightly. "What's inside...?"
"Shall we take a look?"
I took a deep breath and lifted the lid of the box.
A quaint ring lay quietly inside.
"This is the heirloom ring of the Wolf Clan," he explained, "representing identity and power."
Just as I reached for it, he picked up the ring first and knelt on one knee.
"So," he looked up at me, his gaze unusually serious,
"are you willing to let me keep it safe for you for a lifetime?"
Moonlight spilled over his handsome profile, and those eyes that were usually so cool were now filled with deep affection.
"Little Wolf Cub," he said softly, "this time, let me protect you."
My eyes felt a bit warm, and I nodded, "Alright."
He placed the ring on my finger and suddenly said,
"Actually, this ring is passed down to males only."
"Huh?"
"So," he grinned mischievously, "you owe me a favor."
"What favor?"
He stood up and whispered in my ear,
"Tonight is a full moon; let me see what you look like when you transform?"
"Not a chance!"
"Don't be shy," he said with a teasing smile, "it's not like you haven't shown me before..."
"Luke Dunphy!"
I lunged at him in embarrassment and anger, but he easily caught me and chuckled softly,
"Alright, my Little Wolf Cub, it's time for your history lesson."
"What history lesson?"
"For example," he winked, "how adorable you were as a child."
