Chapter 6: Sowing Discord
A few days later, in the Imperial Garden.
Su Wanrou had dressed up carefully and arrived at the garden to admire the flowers.
She knew that Shen Qingyi would also be here today.
"Shen Qingyi, today you are destined to be my stepping stone," Su Wanrou thought to herself.
She strolled among the blossoms, pretending to casually encounter Gu Yun Ci.
"Young Master Yun Ci, what a coincidence," Su Wanrou said softly.
Gu Yun Ci smiled upon seeing Su Wanrou.
"Miss Su, are you here to enjoy the flowers as well?"
"Yes," Su Wanrou replied, gently caressing a petal. "These flowers are truly beautiful."
"They pale in comparison to your beauty," Gu Yun Ci blurted out.
Su Wanrou blushed and smiled shyly. "Young Master Yun Ci, you flatter me."
After a pause, she seemingly brought up a topic by chance. "I recently heard that Shen Qingyi has been associating with some rather unsavory friends in the palace."
Gu Yun Ci's interest was piqued. "Oh? What kind of friends?"
"I'm not entirely sure, just something I overheard," Su Wanrou said mysteriously. "I heard that those people are all young rascals who do not engage in proper pursuits."
Gu Yun Ci's brows furrowed slightly.
He recalled that Shen Qingyi had indeed been acting strangely lately, growing distant from him.
"Could it be that Shen Qingyi has really changed?" Gu Yun Ci pondered to himself.
At that moment, Shen Qingyi appeared in the Imperial Garden.
She immediately spotted Gu Yun Ci and Su Wanrou standing closely together.
Her heart sank.
Su Wanrou noticed Shen Qingyi and revealed a barely perceptible smile.
"Shen Qingyi, are you here to enjoy the flowers too?" Su Wanrou deliberately raised her voice.
Shen Qingyi forced a smile, "Yes."
She walked up to Gu Yun Ci, her eyes filled with questions.
"You two..."
"We just happened to run into each other," Gu Yun Ci explained.
Shen Qingyi remained silent, simply gazing at him.
Seeing this, Su Wanrou felt a surge of delight.
"By the way, Young Master Yun Ci, I almost forgot to tell you," Su Wanrou feigned surprise. "A few days ago, I saw Shen Qingyi meeting with a young gentleman at the teahouse, and they seemed quite intimate."
Gu Yun Ci's expression changed instantly upon hearing this.
"What did you say?"
"I saw it with my own eyes," Su Wanrou insisted confidently. "That gentleman looked either rich or noble, and he was very attentive to Shen Qingyi."
Hearing Su Wanrou's lies made Shen Qingyi feel both anxious and angry.
"You're talking nonsense!"
"Whether I'm talking nonsense or not, you know in your heart," Su Wanrou sneered.
Gu Yun Ci looked at Shen Qingyi, his gaze filled with suspicion.
"Shen Qingyi, you really..."
Shen Qingyi's eyes turned red.
She never expected that Gu Yun Ci would actually believe Su Wanrou's lies.
"You don't believe me?"
Gu Yun Ci fell silent.
His heart was filled with contradictions and struggles.
He wanted to trust Shen Qingyi, yet he could not ignore Su Wanrou's "evidence."
Unable to bear it any longer, Shen Qingyi turned and ran away.
Tears blurred her vision.
She inadvertently heard Su Wanrou's voice not far away.
"Young Master Yun Ci, please don't tell Shen Qingyi that I was the one who informed you." Su Wanrou's voice carried a hint of smugness. "I don't want her to misunderstand me."
Shen Qingyi's heart shattered completely.
She finally understood that this was all part of Su Wanrou's scheme.
