Tian Ling lay half-awake on the sofa, feeling a mix of comfort and frustration. Yes, Tong Le was always so capable, earning money and being considerate. Why did Tong Le have to work? Being a corporate slave was the hardest job of all.
Lan Qingqing instinctively twitched her lips, jealousy bubbling up inside her. She thought to herself, yes, Tong Le had it easy—coming from a wealthy family and being so accomplished. Just the other day, she heard that Tong Le's father had left her a piece of valuable land, right?
Tong Le raised an eyebrow slightly, understanding that Lan Qingqing had invited her out today to extract information. To lower her guard, she had even brought along Tian Ling, this unfortunate girl.
Tong Le deliberately said, "Yes, there is indeed a piece of land worth several hundred million. But for now, Ke Wenjie and I have no use for it. Since Ke Wenjie is so good at making money, we might as well leave that land untouched."
Lan Qingqing's eyes lit up at this revelation. She calculated the wealth of Tong Le and Ke Wenjie in her mind. If she could win over Ke Wenjie, that vast fortune would be hers!
Tong Le caught the glint in Lan Qingqing's eyes; this was exactly the effect she wanted. She wanted Lan Qingqing to believe she was living a wonderful life, to let jealousy consume her and provoke her into making reckless decisions.
Seizing the moment, Lan Qingqing asked eagerly, "Lele, where is that piece of land? I heard you mention it’s valuable, but you didn’t say where it is..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Tian Ling suddenly felt nauseous. She grabbed Lan Qingqing's arm and exclaimed fiercely, "Take me to the restroom!"
Lan Qingqing was startled half to death and hurriedly helped Tian Ling to the bathroom.
In the booth, only Tong Le remained. She turned to look for Zong Zeyu, but he had vanished without a trace. Soon after, she received a WeChat message from him: "I've already settled your bill. This place doesn't suit me; it's too noisy. I thought I might have the chance to share a drink with you today."
Tong Le replied playfully: "Pregnant women don’t drink."
Zong Zeyu responded: "You can pretend to be pregnant for a lifetime; just give birth to a Nezha."
Tong Le was puzzled: "Why do you insist on coming to the bar to find me? You come but don’t say anything and settle the bill—are you really not planning on giving me back that piece of land? Are you trying to placate me with these little favors?"
Zong Zeyu replied: "I’m just bored with nothing to do. Your wild imaginations are also born from boredom."
When Lan Qingqing returned supporting Tian Ling, Tong Le decided it was time to leave. As Zong Zeyu said, the atmosphere in the bar was terrible.
She stood up and said, "Let’s go. The bill has been settled already. With Tian Ling like this, she can’t drink anymore. Ke Wenjie wants me home early; I’m afraid he’ll worry."
Lan Qingqing felt disappointed; she hadn’t managed to extract any information and had even been splattered by Tian Ling’s sudden illness—what a letdown! Today truly felt like a day of bad luck!
Tong Le added, "I’ll take Tian Ling home; you can grab a taxi back yourself, okay? After all, we’re not heading in the same direction."
Lan Qingqing nodded reluctantly. "Just be careful on your way."
At the entrance of the bar, they parted ways—Tong Le drove while Tian Ling sat in the back seat. The windows were rolled down wide open as the night breeze rushed in freely.
Tong Le spoke, "Tian Ling, are you still awake? How about we hang out in front of the Convenience Store for a bit? Want to grab some Onigiri and a sandwich?"
Tian Ling, feeling a bit dazed, replied, "Yeah, let's eat."
Tong Le chuckled softly; Tian Ling was so drunk that she was barely conscious.
Tong Le parked the car in front of the Convenience Store and helped Tian Ling out.
Tian Ling squatted by the roadside and began to vomit.
Not having eaten enough that evening, Tong Le bought Onigiri and a sandwich for herself, along with a bottle of beer. She had been craving alcohol back at the bar but couldn't drink, so now she needed to satisfy that urge!
Sitting on a chair outside the Convenience Store with an Onigiri in one hand and a beer in the other, Tong Le looked up at the night sky.
She murmured to herself, "Everything here is simple—Onigiri is simple, beer is simple, everything is simple. The only thing that's complicated is the human heart."
Turning to Tian Ling, she said, "Don't you think so, Ling?"
With her eyes closed and her head spinning, Tian Ling mumbled in response.
Tong Le stood up as music began to play from the speakers outside the Convenience Store. The song was called "Ding Zhong De Fang."
She tiptoed along the edge of the road to the beat of the music, moving like a light and graceful little sprite.
Happily munching on her Onigiri and sipping her beer, she let out a satisfying burp after finishing her drink. Raising her beer bottle toward the moonlight, she felt more relaxed than ever.
At that moment, Zong Zeyu's car stopped across the street. He got out and leaned against his car.
He watched Tong Le from a distance—the cute and boisterous Tong Le.
Unable to help himself, he chuckled; he hadn't expected her to be such a drinker. Just moments ago at the bar, she hadn’t touched a drop of alcohol, but now here she was at the Convenience Store downing cheap beer and burping loudly.
He captured a moment of Tong Le dancing under the streetlight—the way she lightly lifted her toes and how her hair fell gently across her forehead was both delicate and beautiful.
He sent the photo to Tong Le.
Upon receiving his message, Tong Le immediately looked up in Zong Zeyu's direction.
She saw Zong Zeyu and waved her hand vigorously, shouting, "Hey! Why haven't you left yet?"
Zong Zeyu walked towards Tong Le, his tall figure in the late night taking on an air of mystery.
At that moment, Tian Ling, who had been lounging in a chair, sat up. She was awakened by Tong Le's voice and, still a bit dazed, looked at the tall shadow of Zong Zeyu approaching them. Gradually, his cold and handsome face came into view.
Tian Ling shook off her drunkenness slightly, furrowing her brow as she murmured, "That familiar handsome guy..."
Her eyes brightened as she remembered! It was him from the library fire years ago.
