On the other side, at the airport, Tong Le held the child she had personally chosen, Zheng Shu, standing beside Zong Zeyu. They were positioned near the exit, watching as people streamed out one after another.
Tong Le handed Zheng Shu to Zong Zeyu, estimating that they would be out soon. "Here, take her."
Zong Zeyu accepted Zheng Shu, and for some reason, against the backdrop of the child, he found Tong Le even more beautiful. He couldn't help but think that if he were the man by her side, he would ensure she was well taken care of—plump, beautiful, and adorable.
Feeling the heat in the hall, Tong Le instinctively removed her jacket. However, as she did so, the marks on her neck became glaringly obvious.
Zong Zeyu grabbed her shoulder with one hand and focused on her neck. "What happened here?"
Tong Le had forgotten about the scars on her neck; it was a family shame that made her feel embarrassed. She quickly concocted an excuse. "I had some guasha done this afternoon to relieve heat."
Zong Zeyu raised an eyebrow in suspicion. "Weren't you at Tian Ling's house cooking for me this afternoon?"
Her lie was exposed, and Tong Le continued to weave her story. "Tian Ling did guasha on me using just her fingers. It's true."
Tong Le wasn't good at lying, especially with that last bit of truth slipping out so easily. If she weren't feeling guilty, there wouldn't have been such a slip.
Zong Zeyu could roughly guess how Tong Le had gotten those marks—most likely from Xu Ke-Wen-Jie's handiwork. It shocked him that a man could be so brutal to a woman who was clearly defenseless.
Seeing that Tong Le was unwilling to elaborate further, he decided not to press the issue. There were many ways for men to retaliate against each other, and in that moment, he resolved to think of his own approach.
When Zong Zeyu's brother appeared at the exit, Zong Zeyu looked at the tall and handsome figure with surprise and called out, "Brother!"
He rushed forward to embrace the vibrant child in his arms while Tong Le followed closely behind.
Zong Jin took Zheng Shu from him, and the two brothers shared a warm hug.
This was Tong Le's first time meeting Zong Jin. Although she had heard much about him and the Zong family, seeing him in person was different.
She had heard that when the Zong family prospered, it was largely thanks to Zong Jin and his father's teamwork. Zong Jin played an indispensable role in their entrepreneurial journey. Later on, he moved abroad while leaving all domestic affairs to Zong Zeyu.
Tong Le noticed how close the bond was between Zong Zeyu and Zong Jin; it was clear that the elder brother doted on his younger sibling. Even though the younger brother exuded confidence in daily life, he transformed into a child when in front of his brother.
Tong Le felt like she understood Zong Zeyu a bit more; she saw multiple facets of him.
Zong Zeyu introduced Tong Le to Zong Jin. Immediately afterward, Zong Jin pulled Zong Zeyu aside and whispered, "Tong Le? Qi Qian Tong Le? It's been a while! When did this happen? Why didn't you mention it on WeChat?"
Zong Zeyu smiled. "It just happened in these past few days. Although we've reunited, she's married now."
Zong Jin looked surprised and fell silent.
Zong Zeyu patted Zong Jin on the shoulder. "Don't be so serious right away. Right now, I'm just friends with her."
Zong Jin reminded him, "We can't do anything unethical. Even if she was once engaged to you, you cannot break up someone else's marriage. Remember what our father taught us. Since he's not here, it's up to me to keep an eye on you."
"Brother Tong Le," Zong Zeyu said, "this bouquet was chosen by her, and I think she picked well."
Zong Jin walked up to Tong Le with a very polite and gentlemanly smile. He thanked her for personally selecting Zheng Shu, saying that she had a good understanding of people's preferences.
Tong Le smiled graciously. "You’re too kind."
Zong Jin and Zong Zeyu walked side by side toward the main entrance, with Tong Le following behind. She observed the two brothers' backs—both tall and handsome with similar hairstyles—but their personalities were quite different.
Zong Zeyu often appeared aloof but could be playful at times, while Zong Jin was gentlemanly and steady, very conservative in nature.
Tong Le found it interesting and even felt a bit envious of their harmonious family relationship.
In the business car, Tong Le sat in the passenger seat while Zong Jin and Zong Zeyu occupied the back row.
Zong Zeyu teased, "Mom has arranged your schedule for the next week: on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, you'll be meeting potential partners from overseas; on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, you'll meet those from top domestic universities."
Tong Le chimed in with a playful tone, "At least she left Sunday free for you to rest."
Zong Zeyu added, "Not really; there's a blind date with the daughter of some wealthy businessman on Sunday."
Zong Jin looked serious and furrowed his brow as if facing a great enemy. "I hope that's just your joke."
Zong Zeyu raised his hand in a mock oath. "I swear that aside from those three days, all other arrangements are real. I swear on Tong Le's marriage."
Tong Le laughed heartily but turned to glare at Zong Zeyu when she heard him making fun of her.
Zong Zeyu smiled slightly. "Is there a problem? Aren't you just dying to get divorced?"
Tong Le's face flushed red with embarrassment as she straightened up.
Zong Jin remained serious as he lowered his head to open a ticket booking app on his phone, preparing to fly abroad overnight.
Zong Zeyu reminded him, "You can run away from the monk but not from the temple. This is how I’ve endured it all—endless blind dates and constant criticism. Now that you're here, I can take it a bit easier."
Zong Jin sighed deeply, troubled. He didn't see this as something to joke about; he took relationships seriously and had always kept someone in his heart—a person who had passed away.
He said solemnly, "I need to negotiate with my mother and make her abandon this idea."
Zong Zeyu leaned back in his seat. "It's useless; in the end, it will still end badly. Have you forgotten why you went abroad before? You can't persuade our mother."
Zong Jin replied, "So I can only go on blind dates? Rejecting one after another?"
