What a surprise that even a ball of yarn could pass through, Wu Youyou thought, dumbfounded. She edged closer to Zong Jin and whispered, "Brother-in-law, have these two become so ambiguous? Isn't Tong Le married?"
Zong Jin wore a serious expression and cleared his throat with determination. Wu Youyou continued to murmur in excitement, "This is thrilling, truly thrilling!"
At that moment, Zong Jin's phone buzzed with a message from Dao Wen, who had just arrived at the entrance of the Zong Family Mansion. Zong Jin immediately stood up and moved around the back of the sofa. He grabbed Zong Zeyu by the shoulder and commanded, "Come with me downstairs to greet her."
Reluctantly, Zong Zeyu was dragged down the stairs by Zong Jin. In the grand hall, only Tong Le and Wu Youyou remained. Tong Le sat with her laptop, looking dejected; she felt that Zong Zeyu was uninterested in her project proposal, and suddenly lost confidence in her work.
Wu Youyou put away her phone and stood up. "Let's go downstairs together; I want to see what this fake girlfriend looks like."
Tong Le followed suit, but Wu Youyou turned back with a hint of concern. "Tong Le Jie, is your friend Dao Wen reliable? She won't try to seduce my brother-in-law just because she knows he’s wealthy, will she?"
Tong Le found Wu Youyou's worries unfounded. "Of course not! She's an independent woman, not the kind you think."
Downstairs, Zong Jin was pulling Zong Zeyu as they stepped out of the house. Zong Zeyu looked reluctant. "You could just go greet her yourself; why drag me along?"
Zong Jin appeared calm on the outside but felt his heart racing with anxiety. He had never experienced anything like this before—finding a random woman to pretend to be his girlfriend and teaming up against his own mother. Holding onto Zong Zeyu was his way of bolstering his courage; despite his tall and sturdy appearance, he felt awkward in such an embarrassing situation.
At the entrance of the mansion, Zong Jin met Dao Wen. She wore a deep blue women's suit paired with black stilettos, her long hair cascading over her shoulders. In one hand, she carried a stylish handbag while the other held two boxes of premium bird's nest.
True to her name—sharp as a knife yet graceful—she exuded an air of elegance that was both striking and formidable. At first glance, she embodied a confident older sister vibe that was completely at odds with the delicate beauty often associated with gentler women.
Dao Wen had phoenix-like eyes and an oval face; simply standing there radiated an aura of cool sophistication. Zong Jin froze for a moment, feeling slightly stiff as he prepared to greet her when Dao Wen spoke first.
"Zong Boss," she said, "I've seen your photos and recognized you. Let's head inside."
With that, Dao Wen linked her arm with Zong Jin's. Standing at 1.7 meters tall and wearing heels, she looked like a model beside him—a striking pair indeed.
Meanwhile, Zong Zeyu felt like an unnecessary light bulb—tall and bright but left behind on the ground.
Zong Jin was being led forward by Dao Wen. In his entire life, aside from his wife and Wu Youyou, he had never had another woman link arms with him—not even his own mother. He felt a tingling sensation all over, as if he had been electrocuted, but more than that, he felt uncomfortable.
Dao Wen spoke cheerfully, having heard that Zong Boss had a rather reserved personality. "But that's alright," she continued. "You just need to go along with me for a bit. After all, Tong Le is a friend of mine. I’ve heard that Zong Boss is doing quite well in business. Once the show is over tonight, how about we become friends?"
Zong Jin blinked and swallowed hard, feeling dazed. He was indeed at the mercy of Dao Wen, but he was somewhat dissatisfied with her description of him as reserved. He tried to argue back, "I’m not as reserved as you say."
Dao Wen laughed, her arm muscles tensing up. "You’re saying you’re not reserved?"
She turned her head to look at Zong Jin's face, and in the next moment, Zong Jin's face flushed all the way to his neck.
Dao Wen was taken aback for a moment and couldn’t help but think to herself that he was still quite innocent.
At the entrance of the house, Wen Cuizhi greeted them with a smile. When she saw Dao Wen and Zong Jin walking in arm in arm, and noticed how red Zong Jin’s face had become, she felt like she was going crazy with excitement inside. This time it must be real! The only woman who could make her eldest son blush like that was none other than the one who had previously made him blush over Wu Yutong!
Wen Cuizhi beamed with joy and hurriedly welcomed them. "Dao Wen, right? Come in, come in!"
She turned to shout at the housekeeper, "Liu Sao! Dinner can be served!"
Dao Wen handed the gift box she was holding to Wen Cuizhi with a smile. "Aunt Wen, I’m sorry for coming to visit so suddenly. Zong Jin has been busy abroad with work while I’ve been caught up in my own affairs, so we haven’t had the chance to visit you properly. I’ll make sure to come by more often from now on. Here’s a little gift I prepared; I didn’t have time to pick something out carefully since I came in such a hurry. I hope you don’t mind."
Wen Cuizhi was more than satisfied. Firstly, her eldest son finally seemed to have found someone special; Dao Wen’s image and upbringing were exactly what she had hoped for. Just five minutes ago, she had been doubting whether Zong Jin had found a fake girlfriend to fool her; now all her doubts were completely dispelled.
