Lan Qingqing's heart swelled with joy; of course, she was happy. This proved that Ke Jie held her in his thoughts. Yet, she also felt a twinge of guilt towards him. After all, she had already changed her heart. Although her body remained with Ke Jie, her heart had long since drifted to Zong Jin.
"Brother, what size house are you planning to buy?" Lan Qingqing asked.
Ke Jie calculated for a moment. Selling their current house would likely net them around ten million in cash, given the excellent location. He planned to set aside four million in cash for his mother's account and use the remaining six million to buy a four-bedroom house on the outskirts.
With this arrangement, the property would transition from pre-marital to marital assets, allowing him to walk away with an extra four million in cash without any cost.
"About one hundred and fifty square meters," Ke Jie replied. "Once we have children, it will be spacious enough."
Lan Qingqing's excitement bubbled over. "Brother, you’re serious, right? You will definitely divorce Tong Le, won’t you?"
"Divorce is not on the table for now," Ke Jie said. "Once her child is born, I’ll see how things go with that piece of land that’s still uncertain. At that point, whether or not to keep Tong Le as a pawn will be entirely up to me."
He glanced at Lan Qingqing. "So you need to behave yourself, understood?"
Lan Qingqing nestled against Ke Jie’s shoulder and replied softly, "I understand. I’ll help you find out about that land."
Meanwhile, in another car, Tong Le sat in the passenger seat as Wen parked outside the Zong Group's entrance.
Wen asked, "Zong Zeyu is taking you to see that piece of land. Why do you need me along?"
"I need you to act as my advisor," Tong Le explained. "Once we see the land, I need your thoughts on whether it’s worth buying and at what price. I urgently need money."
Wen raised an eyebrow. "You urgently need money? How much do you need and for what?"
Tong Le sighed. "Ke Jie has put our current house up for sale. I plan to find someone to pose as a buyer and purchase this house myself. It holds memories for my parents and me; I can’t let it fall into someone else’s hands."
Wen looked puzzled. "Why not just stop him from selling it?"
Tong Le replied earnestly, "He won’t listen to me. Besides, I think his decision to sell aligns perfectly with my intentions. I can't force him and his mother out of this house; now that Ke Jie wants to buy a new place, it conveniently allows them to leave my home without fuss. Once the sale is finalized and he receives the funds from selling the house, I’ll move that money away too. I know Ke Jie well; he will never divorce me while he sees value in me. He will cling to me for life until he thinks I’m no longer useful, at which point he’ll kick me aside without hesitation. I want to ensure that he ends up with nothing through the most peaceful means possible."
Wen expressed concern. "Are you sure about this?"
Tong Le met Wen's gaze. "I can’t be certain about how much control I have over this situation, but I have no way out now. I started with nothing; my life has been completely ruined by him. So I have no choice but to fight back. If I don’t fight, it’s a dead end for me—a wasted life. If I do fight back, there might still be a glimmer of hope; at worst, we’ll both end up losing everything."
Tong Le bitterly mocked herself. "I was foolish before; although I'm still foolish now, I don’t want to continue being foolish any longer."
Wen sighed deeply. "But where will you get ten million for the house? Selling that piece of land? I'm really worried you'll get caught in a trap or that Ke Jie will turn the tables on you—he's truly unpredictable."
At that moment, Tong Le's phone buzzed with a WeChat message from Zong Zeyu: "I'm on my way; follow behind."
