"You're pregnant, and it's your child," Lan Qingqing said casually.
Ke Jie was taken aback, slamming on the brakes and momentarily stunned.
Lan Qingqing's head nearly hit the dashboard as she shouted at him, "What are you doing?!"
Ke Jie looked flustered, feeling guilty. "I've been careful these past few times; I've taken precautions."
Lan Qingqing rolled her eyes. "I was joking! Look at how scared you are. Tong Le being pregnant is a good thing; does that mean if I get pregnant, I can scare you into a stupor?"
She turned away, clearly annoyed with Ke Jie. She was already fuming after spending an entire afternoon at the hospital, pretending to be sick and faint. Only a minor leader from the company came to visit her; she neither received an apology from Wu Youyou nor any consolation from Zong Jin.
Earlier that day in the break room, she had spontaneously pretended to faint upon seeing Zong Jin return. She rushed into the break room and slammed herself against the glass table, feigning unconsciousness.
The act worked well, but the aftermath was less than ideal.
Ke Jie reached out to touch Lan Qingqing's forehead, trying to soothe her. "I was just surprised. If you're pregnant, I would be happy for you. But if you and Tong Le are both pregnant at the same time, I would definitely be shocked."
Lan Qingqing turned around and questioned him, "So what if both Tong Le and I are pregnant? What would you choose?"
Ke Jie lied, "I would keep your child and divorce Tong Le."
Lan Qingqing felt somewhat satisfied and smiled. "Alright then, at least you know how to talk."
As the car restarted, Lan Qingqing added, "I'm fine; I'm just a bit tired, which is why I came to the hospital. Don't worry."
Ke Jie nodded in response, though he wasn't actually worried.
They arrived at Lan Qingqing's small apartment, but throughout the journey, Ke Jie couldn't shake off thoughts of Tong Le. He found it strange that he was becoming increasingly concerned about Tong Le and missing her.
In fact, because of Tong Le's refusal to let him touch her, he found himself craving her even more.
Once inside the apartment, Ke Jie channeled his feelings for Tong Le into Lan Qingqing. She thought he must be madly in love with her. However, during their passionate moment together, Ke Jie accidentally uttered Tong Le's name.
Immediately, Lan Qingqing snapped back to reality, her eyes wide as she raised her hand to slap Ke Jie across the face. He felt doused with cold water as the room fell silent.
Meanwhile, downstairs at Tong Le's home.
Tong Le deliberately stayed late at work to avoid going home and cooking for her mother-in-law, Zhang Huizhi.
She wandered around the commercial street near her house and spotted a ramen shop. Deciding to treat herself, she went inside and ordered a bowl of beef noodles, planning to finish her meal before heading home.
At that moment, a figure in a suit entered the store, drawing the attention of everyone inside, even without revealing his face.
Tong Le looked up in surprise; it was Zong Zeyu.
"What are you doing here?" Tong Le asked, astonished.
Zong Zeyu casually took a seat directly across from her, his elegant brows and handsome eyes radiating warmth. "I came to have dinner with you."
Tong Le smiled, "I don’t need company. You should go; this is near my home, and it wouldn’t be good if someone saw us."
Zong Zeyu rested his chin on one hand, gazing intently at Tong Le with a hint of teasing in his eyes. "Didn’t I already give you an answer earlier today?"
Tong Le coughed, nearly spitting out the noodles in her mouth. After a couple of forceful coughs, she patted her chest and lowered her head to refuse. "I didn’t give you an answer; don’t overstep your boundaries. Let’s just pretend today never happened."
Zong Zeyu disregarded Tong Le’s thoughts entirely. He reached out and took hold of her left hand resting on the table. No matter how much she tried to pull away, it was futile.
Tong Le looked up at him, speaking softly yet firmly, "Let go! Someone will see us!"
His gaze was filled with dominance and an air of invasion; he was determined to pursue Tong Le. After all, he had already given her an answer earlier that day, even if she didn’t want it.
He held her delicate hand tightly in his broad one, leaving no chance for her to escape.
He spoke up, "Today is the first day I’m pursuing you."
