After driving away, Tong Le stood still for a long time, feeling a sense of relief wash over her, as if her life was beginning anew. No matter how chaotic her current situation seemed, she could see a ray of light in the distance. She strode forward along the path home.
Meanwhile, not far behind her, in a black sedan that had been tailing her, the driver was Hou Yi. He had followed Zong Zeyu's car and was curious to see who had the audacity to beat up Sun Hu.
Hou Yi had heard of the Zong Clan but had never seen the two heirs of the Zong Family in person—until today. Not only did he see them, but he also witnessed Zong Zeyu holding a woman's hand in a cheap noodle shop, only to have that same woman in tears shortly after.
Hou Yi was baffled; one moment he was forcefully holding hands, and the next he was making a woman cry. Even more absurd was the choice of venue—a noisy and inexpensive noodle shop for a date. Although he changed women every few days, he had never been so stingy with them. At the very least, he would take them to an Hermes or Chanel store. Even if he was heartless after sleeping with them, there should be some economic compensation.
While spying on Tong Le and Zong Zeyu, Hou Yi lingered outside the noodle shop for a while, smoking one cigarette after another. Dressed casually in a tracksuit with his hood up, his muscular physique was evident despite his relaxed attire.
He found it amusing and ordinary at the same time. Out of boredom, he took a couple of photos of Tong Le through the shop window and sent them to his subordinates for investigation. To his surprise, he discovered that Tong Le was actually a married woman.
This twist made things more interesting and exciting for Hou Yi. He realized that Zong Zeyu's taste was quite eye-opening; while he himself enjoyed a lavish lifestyle, Zong Zeyu seemed to indulge in something more unconventional.
Suddenly, Hou Yi wasn't in such a hurry to deal with Zong Zeyu anymore. Some mischievous thoughts crossed his mind; he wanted to make things even more entertaining.
Hou Yi's car continued to follow closely behind Tong Le as he observed her carefully. She had a decent figure but wasn't really his type. Tong Le appeared gentle and obedient; having just cried in the noodle shop made her even less appealing to him. He despised women who cried—if any woman shed tears in front of him, he would throw her into an isolated place to cry it out before sending her home.
To him, women were merely tools for release—a physical body devoid of annoying emotions.
His car stopped at an intersection as he rested one hand on the steering wheel and leaned against the window edge. He watched Tong Le buying roasted sweet potatoes by the roadside; she seemed like an ordinary woman living an ordinary life—nothing special compared to the tall models and actresses he had been with before.
He couldn't understand what Zong Zeyu saw in her. Was it simply the thrill of infidelity?
Hou Yi let out a cold laugh, finding it all quite amusing. Just then, from his rearview mirror, he noticed a blinding light approaching—a car coming at him with its high beams on, seemingly intent on crashing into him!
He hurriedly started the car, but it was too late. In the next moment, a massive truck came crashing into his vehicle, sending it flying across the street and colliding with a sturdy tree trunk.
In an instant, thick smoke billowed into the air, and traffic came to a standstill. The truck that caused the accident showed almost no damage, and its driver seemed to have targeted Hou Yi specifically. After the crash, the driver pressed down on the accelerator and fled the scene in less than a minute.
At the intersection, bystanders gasped in shock as many cars slowly came to a halt before cautiously moving again. Some called the police, but no one dared to approach Hou Yi's car to check on the situation.
Hou Yi's vehicle was emitting smoke, posing a constant risk of explosion or fire, and no one was willing to risk their lives to help.
Tong Le witnessed the entire scene unfold. She dropped the roasted sweet potato she had been holding and rushed across the street.
