The phone connected, and Zong Jin asked if Wu Youyou had returned home. Cui Zhi remarked, "You spoil her too much, treating her like a child. She dares to stay out all night! It’s as if you’re raising her like a daughter. Even though she is Wu Yutong's younger sister, you shouldn’t pamper her this way! I understand your guilt towards Wu Yutong, but you can’t project all of that onto Wu Youyou; that’s simply not right."
Zong Jin replied, "I’m afraid she might do something reckless and hurt herself. When she throws a tantrum, her emotions are out of control."
Cui Zhi then asked, "Let me ask you something. Your feelings for Wu Youyou are just those of an older brother towards his sister, right?"
Zong Jin responded affirmatively, "Yes, she is the only family Wu Yutong has left, and she is my family too."
Cui Zhi advised, "In that case, it’s best to maintain some distance. You’re with Wen now; what does it mean to keep bringing Wu Youyou around? Do you know what the elders and younger ones in our family have been saying? They think you’re treating Wu Youyou like a daughter-in-law. I know you don’t have those kinds of feelings for her, but Wu Youyou is growing up. It’s the time for her to date, and during this visit home, I can clearly sense that her feelings towards you have changed."
Zong Jin frowned; he hadn’t considered this aspect before.
Cui Zhi reminded him, "Wu Youyou hasn’t gone home yet. She’s becoming more independent and won’t mistreat herself. You should think about your relationship with her; when it’s time to let go, you must let go."
Zong Jin replied, "I understand, Mom. If Wu Youyou returns home, please send me a message."
Cui Zhi agreed, "Yes, I’ve already sent a few drivers out to look for her at nearby hotels and parks to see if they can find her."
After hanging up the phone, the office door was knocked on by the Female Secretary. She informed Zong Jin that Lan Qingqing wanted to see him.
Zong Jin permitted her entry, and Lan Qingqing walked into the room with a pale expression on her face. Her pallor was not due to weakness but rather because she had deliberately applied a ghastly shade of foundation that morning.
Dressed in a cotton-linen style dress with long hair cascading over her shoulders, Lan Qingqing slowly approached Zong Jin's desk. Once the Female Secretary left the office, she spoke in an extremely weak tone, "Zong Zong, I’m here to thank you. If it weren’t for you yesterday..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Zong Jin interrupted her performance. "The company will give you five times the compensation. Go to HR shortly to process your resignation before Wu Youyou returns to the office."
Lan Qingqing was taken aback; this was completely not the outcome she had anticipated. She never expected Zong Jin would ask her to resign!
The situation had exceeded her expectations, leaving Lan Qingqing speechless.
Zong Jin remained expressionless and continued, "If Wu Youyou harmed you in any way, I apologize on her behalf. Whatever economic compensation you want is fine—if five times isn’t enough, then ten times—but you must leave the company."
Lan Qingqing felt utterly wronged; tears welled up in her eyes. "Why? What did I do wrong? Was it my performance? Is this how Zong Group operates? When conflicts arise between employees and their leaders' relatives, does the powerless employee have to be sacrificed? Has the principle of fairness that Zong Group advocates been completely discarded?"
Zong Jin stood firm in his position. He admitted he was biased and protective; he had already given Wu Youyou a verbal reprimand regarding this matter. As for Lan Qingqing—who was neither family nor close—there could only be one tiger on the mountain; she had to be eliminated from Si Li.
Zong Jin did not intend to engage in lengthy discussions with Lan Qingqing. In his view, there were only two steps: clarify the pros and cons of the situation and then execute the plan accordingly.
Zong Jin spoke, "I'll give you five minutes to consider. Ten times the compensation. If you don't agree, we'll proceed with the normal termination process, and it will be treated as an unlawful dismissal."
