Tong Le finally got in touch with Wu Youyou after calling her five times. Upon learning that Wu Youyou was at an amusement park in the city center, Tong Le quickly informed Wen, who drove them both to find Wu Youyou.
Inside the car, Wen drove while listening to Tong Le vent her frustrations. Upon hearing that Lan Qingqing was pregnant, Wen's expression soured as if she had been force-fed something unpleasant. Tong Le sat in the passenger seat, contemplating the unexpected turn of events. This was not part of her plan, and she felt a bit lost. If Lan Qingqing used the child to pressure her, regardless of Ke Jie’s choice, Zhang Huizhi would undoubtedly take a firm stance and make a big deal out of welcoming Lan Qingqing back home.
Wen broke the silence, asking, "Are you upset about this?"
Tong Le shook her head. "Not at all. What’s there to be upset about? If Lan Qingqing wants my marriage, then she can have it. I’d rather she marry Ke Jie right away and experience the hardships of marriage herself. But before that, I need Ke Jie to return everything he took from the Tong Family."
Wen chuckled. "I’m actually looking forward to seeing how Lan Qingqing and Ke Jie will navigate their marriage. Two cunning people skilled in manipulation living under one roof—how will that work out?"
When they arrived at the amusement park, Tong Le dialed Wu Youyou's number again. On the other end, Wu Youyou said, "Tong Le Jie, maybe you should just leave me alone. I’ll stay here for a while and then leave. Tell Zong Jin I’m going to the hotel and not to worry about me."
Just as Tong Le was about to persuade her otherwise, Wen snatched the phone away and warned Wu Youyou on the line, "No one cares about your life or death! You're in your teens and still playing childish games! Only someone as straightforward as Zong Jin would indulge you. Go wherever you want; when certain people run out of money, they’ll find their way home."
Wen tossed the phone back to Tong Le, who nearly jumped out of her skin as Wu Youyou's angry voice blared from the speaker. "You’re the one playing house! You’re the one who’s straightforward and clueless! Why do you care what I do? What does my age have to do with you? Where are you? I want to confront you face-to-face!"
Wen pulled out a pack of cigarettes from her bag, laughing softly as she whispered to Tong Le their current location.
Tong Le nervously replied into the phone, "Wu Youyou, we’re at the entrance of the amusement park."
Wu Youyou shouted back furiously, "I’m coming over to deal with her!!!"
Five minutes later, Wu Youyou stormed over in a rage. She looked disheveled; having spent a sleepless night at a hotel before coming straight to the amusement park where she had sat on the carousel all morning without eating or drinking anything.
Seeing Wu Youyou approach, Tong Le hurried forward with concern. "Have you eaten? You don’t look well. Let me take you for a meal and then back home?"
Wu Youyou lightly pushed Tong Le aside and yelled at Wen, who was smoking nearby, "What gives you the right to say I’m playing house? How dare you criticize me! What does my life have to do with you? My brother-in-law helped you pay off your debts, and this is how you treat me?"
Tong Le stepped in front of Wu Youyou to prevent any escalation between them.
Wen casually held her cigarette between her slender fingers and exhaled smoke as she coolly replied, "Your issues have nothing to do with me either. So your brother-in-law helping me with my debts has nothing to do with you. I merely spoke some truths over the phone—was my reaction really that extreme? Young people stepping into society should learn how to manage their emotions better."
Wen smiled disdainfully, exuding an air of superiority; she clearly looked down on Wu Youyou’s temperament—always throwing tantrums and going missing was simply immature.
Tong Le quickly interjected in front of Wu Youyou, trying to mediate. "Don’t be angry! Wen is just trying to provoke you so that you’d come looking for me; she doesn’t mean anything by it. We’re all here because we care about you."
Wu Youyou stomped her foot in frustration. "I don’t need her concern! Did Zong Jin send her here? Is that it?!"
Tong Le hurriedly clarified, "No! Absolutely not! It was me who asked Wen to drive us here."
Tong Le rolled up his sleeves and showed his injured arm to Wu Youyou. "Look, I got hurt, so I couldn't drive and had to ask Wen for help. When she heard you were missing, she was worried about you."
Wu Youyou felt her anger dissipate somewhat, but she still held a grudge against Wen. The main reasons for her conflict with Zong Jin were Lan Qingqing and Wen.
Though Wu Youyou's expression softened, she couldn't help but express concern as she looked at the scars on Tong Le's arm. "What happened? Does Zong Zeyu know? Did you go to the hospital?"
Seeing that Wu Youyou was no longer upset eased Tong Le's mind considerably. "It's nothing, I've taken care of it. How about I take you out for a meal? You look like you've had a rough day. After we eat, I can drop you off at home or back at the company."
Wu Youyou replied, "Let's just go to the company. If I go home, my aunt will just scold me again."
The three of them got into the car, heading towards Zong Group. Throughout the drive, Wu Youyou stared out the window in silence, occasionally opening and closing her WeChat conversation with Zong Jin without sending any messages.
