In the next moment, she was splashed with a bucket of cold water by Hou Yi. He raised an eyebrow, his words colder than a butcher's knife. "What kind of favor do I owe you? I will do this project at whatever price I choose. Do I owe you anything?"
His smile was frosty, and Miss Tong must have been deluding herself. Tong Le gasped in shock; she now thought that Hou Yi was nothing short of insane.
If that was the case, she no longer felt the need to appeal to his sense of obligation. She glanced at the bracelet on his wrist and demanded, "Return that bracelet to me. It was my mother's keepsake." As for their collaboration, President Hou didn’t need to rush to give her an answer today; he could take a few more days to think it over. After all, pricing wasn’t something one could decide on a whim.
Tong Le waited for Hou Yi to take off the bracelet and return it to her, but instead, he looked at her with interest, a hint of provocation in his gaze. "This bracelet is mine now; why should I give it back to you?"
Tong Le felt that Hou Yi was simply being unreasonable! She said earnestly, "You just said that this bracelet was given to you by your savior. I am that savior! I didn’t give you the bracelet; return it to me!"
She reached out her hand toward Hou Yi. If he refused to return it, she was prepared to snatch it away. After all, whether or not they went through with the project didn’t matter anymore; if Yi Sheng Architecture and Hou Yi wouldn’t cooperate, she could always find another partner!
Hou Yi deliberately twisted the bracelet on his wrist and said maliciously, "I’ve changed my mind; this bracelet is something I found."
Tong Le was furious. "You’re doing this on purpose! Does this bracelet mean that much to you? Why are you targeting me?"
She stood up, ready to tug at Hou Yi's wrist in an attempt to reclaim what was hers. If calm negotiation wouldn’t work, then she would have to resort to force!
But unfortunately, her strength was no match for Hou Yi’s. In fact, she found herself on the receiving end of his counterattack.
Hou Yi grabbed Tong Le’s arm tightly. The disparity in their strength was evident; he applied just enough pressure without any consideration for her delicate nature. As he gripped her arm, Tong Le’s face contorted in pain, and beads of sweat began to form on her forehead.
She furrowed her brow and tried to loosen his grip.
Hou Yi thought Tong Le was just pretending; how could a simple squeeze cause her such distress? He had dealt with other women before and had never seen anyone react like this.
He couldn’t help but recall scenes from the noodle shop with Tong Le and Zong Zeyu—a married woman sneaking around with a single CEO. It seemed that Tong Le must possess some special skills; otherwise, how could she enchant someone as shrewd as Zong Zeyu?
It appeared that it was Tong Le’s act of being weak and innocent that had drawn him in.
In an instant, Hou Yi began to look down on Tong Le. Although she was his savior, he despised those who pretended to be weak and pitiful.
With a forceful shove, he pushed Tong Le away from him. He had completely lost interest in her. Just moments ago, he thought there might be something significant about her situation; instead, it turned out to be nothing more than a pathetic act designed to elicit sympathy—a tactic that might work on someone as naïve as Zong Zeyu but would only backfire with him.
Leaning back against the sofa, he said lazily, "I’ll give you the collaboration project at the lowest price possible as a way of repaying your kindness. You saved my life; let our partnership make up for it."
Hou Yi raised his wrist, deliberately flaunting the Red Woven Bracelet. "I can't give you this bracelet; it's mine now. Strangely enough, since I put it on, my luck has improved."
He gave Tong Le a moment to think. "Make your decision. Once you're ready, sign the contract, and I'll start delivering goods to you tomorrow."
Tong Le couldn't understand why Hou Yi was treating her this way. She had saved his life, yet he responded with disdain and hurt.
She picked up the folder from the tea table and glanced down at her arm. Today, she wore long sleeves to hide the injuries on her arm. The white fabric was slowly soaking through with blood; the wound had reopened due to Hou Yi's brute force, bleeding again and staining her sleeve red.
The pain was intense, but she endured it, beads of cold sweat forming on her forehead as the recently healed wound tore open once more. She knew this scar would remain.
Holding the folder tightly, she said to Hou Yi, "There's no need for cooperation anymore. I hope you can return the bracelet to me. Since you don't want to give it back now, I'll come back another day."
With that, Tong Le turned and left the office.
As she stepped out, tears welled up in her eyes from the pain. She didn't understand what she had done wrong or why she was being treated this way. She felt helpless and didn't know how to handle such an unexpected situation.
She had encountered people like Hou Yi before—those who did good deeds but received nothing in return. Even something as simple as signing a contract seemed impossible.
Blood flowed from her arm wound, staining her white sleeve a large patch of red. Pressing down on the injury to stifle her tears, she strode toward the elevator to leave.
At the office door, the Female Secretary noticed Tong Le's injury.
She entered the office and asked Hou Yi, "President Hou, should I go after Miss Tong? She's bleeding a lot from her arm; it looks like she needs to go to the hospital."
Hou Yi turned his head in confusion. "Bleeding?"
The Female Secretary nodded. A large area of her sleeve was soaked with blood; had she just been injured?
After a moment of realization, Hou Yi understood that Tong Le's arm was indeed hurt. On the night of the car accident when he was trapped in the vehicle, it was Tong Le who reached out for Timely Rescue, causing the glass to cut deeply into her arm!
Never one to regret anything for anyone, Hou Yi suddenly stood up. Ignoring the pain in his casted leg, he felt a rush of regret at that moment.
He grabbed his cane and hurried out of the office, chasing after Tong Le.
