Hou Yi stepped out of the community, the car parked by the roadside. He returned to the vehicle and sat in silence for a long time, unable to leave.
He never expected that Tong Le would have such a profound impact on him, causing him to reflect and reminisce endlessly, especially about her words: if one nurtures a flower in their heart, they wish to cherish everyone; if one harbors a knife, they long to draw it against others.
He knew well that a knife was embedded in his heart, taking root and sprouting deeper with each passing moment, merging with his flesh and blood. He had never considered pulling out that knife, nor could anyone help him do so. When the time came to extract it, it would either mean his death or his rebirth.
No one could save him from this torment; he felt trapped and had no desire to escape. The memory of his parents dying before his eyes was an indelible scar that he could never shake off. His purpose in life was solely to find the murderer of his parents. When he finally tracked down the killer, he would take their life with his own hands. Afterward, he would put an end to all worldly troubles, disperse all employees of Yi Sheng Architecture, divide the Hou family's years of accumulated wealth among them, and then plunge into the depths of the sea to reunite with his long-lost parents.
Yet, years had passed, and he knew nothing of the killer's whereabouts. He felt there was nothing left worth holding onto in this world; he had never thought about loving someone properly or even loving himself.
With a silent sigh, Hou Yi leaned back in the driver's seat. Suddenly, he remembered the cloned phone Sun Hu had given him. He took out the phone; since he had nothing better to do, he decided to see what secrets Ke Wenjie’s phone held.
Initially, Hou Yi had no interest in Ke Wenjie because he was Tong Le's husband. However, he was curious about what kind of foolish man could be cuckolded by his own wife.
He opened the phone and browsed through the cloned information records. As he flipped through the album on the cloned phone, he discovered that its security had been breached.
Hou Yi scrolled through the photos one by one, his expression twisting more and more as he found them increasingly difficult to look at. He thought he was already playing a game of intrigue, but now it seemed he had encountered a worthy opponent.
He assumed Ke Wenjie’s Xiao Si Yan was an honest man; however, it turned out that knowing someone’s face did not mean knowing their heart. Ke Wenjie had strayed even before Tong Le did and not only that—he had filmed interactive videos as well.
Frowning deeply with an expression hard to swallow, Hou Yi watched several of these videos where different women appeared. One woman stood out as she appeared most frequently on screen; she looked somewhat familiar.
He recalled having investigated people around Tong Le before and remembered her two close friends: Dao Wen and another named Lan Qingqing.
In these videos, Lan Qingqing appeared repeatedly.
Things were getting interesting. Hou Yi continued browsing through other contents on the phone; he found himself quite entertained by Ke Wenjie's hidden life—it truly surprised him!
Suddenly, he recalled what Tong Le had just said: she had genuinely opened her heart to Ke Wenjie but ended up betrayed. This made it clear that the betrayal wasn’t Tong Le’s towards Ke Wenjie but rather Ke Wenjie’s betrayal of Tong Le.
So Tong Le must have known about Ke Wenjie’s infidelity all along! And what about her relationship with Zong Zeyu? Could it be true love?
Hou Yi's expression darkened as he processed this revelation; engulfed by immense disappointment, he realized he had misjudged Tong Le. He thought she was just a playful housewife but discovered she was merely a pitiful woman enduring humiliation. He believed Tong Le’s feelings for Zong Zeyu were just a fleeting whim when in fact they were likely genuine.
Suddenly, Hou Yi slammed his fist against the steering wheel—not out of anger towards Tong Le but out of frustration with himself. Reflecting on how he had treated her throughout this ordeal made him feel like a complete fool! It wasn’t Tong Le who strayed; it was that four-eyed Ke Wenjie!
He, the complete fool, repeatedly took pleasure in making things difficult for Tong Le, setting traps for him! No wonder Tong Le, after watching the video of Ke Wenjie getting beaten, labeled him the "Light of Humanity." Now he understood everything!
Hou Yi felt a twinge of regret. Had he known this would happen, he should have let Sun Hu take care of Ke Wenjie. If Ke Wenjie had been dealt with, it would have avenged Tong Le, and perhaps Tong Le would have looked at him differently.
Lost in his thoughts, Hou Yi imagined Tong Le's tearful gratitude towards him. But then he snapped back to reality, realizing he was truly losing his mind. How could he be so affected by that idiot Tong Le, spiraling into such nonsensical thoughts?
He got out of the car and leaned against it while lighting a cigarette. The sun was setting, casting a rare and beautiful scene across the sky, which was painted in deep orange hues by the fiery clouds on the horizon.
Hou Yi thought about calling Tong Le out again. The only redeeming quality about him was that he admitted his mistakes and accepted punishment when wrong. He wanted to apologize to Tong Le.
At that moment, a striking black Rolls Royce drove past him and entered the community where Tong Le lived. Although the neighborhood had a pleasant environment, it didn’t seem like a place for someone with a Rolls Royce to reside.
Hou Yi walked towards the iron railing outside the community and watched as the black Rolls Royce maneuvered into a parking space. Soon after, a somewhat familiar figure emerged from the car—Zong Zeyu.
Throwing away his cigarette butt, Hou Yi's expression shifted to one of anticipation. Surely, Zong Zeyu was there to see Tong Le.
As expected, three minutes later, Tong Le came downstairs. This time, he wasn’t dressed as before; instead, he wore childish pajamas printed with Ding Dong Cat.
Hou Yi felt an inexplicable surge of jealousy. He thought it was unfair that Tong Le could wear Ding Dong Cat pajamas for Zong Zeyu but dressed like an office worker when meeting him.
Like a voyeur, Hou Yi stood by the iron railing outside the community, fixated on the interaction between Tong Le and Zong Zeyu. He saw Zong Zeyu hand Tong Le a takeout bag with "Xiao Long Bao" printed on it.
Hou Yi couldn’t comprehend why today’s women could be satisfied with just a bag of Xiao Long Bao. Even more absurdly, Tong Le was so delighted that he danced around as if that bag contained an elixir of immortality.
The more Hou Yi watched, the more confused he became. He even noticed an unfamiliar relaxed smile on Tong Le’s face—a childlike innocence that seemed incredibly naive.
Hou Yi didn’t understand what kind of sexual appeal such a woman could possess, but Zong Zeyu appeared utterly captivated.
His feelings became increasingly surreal, tinged with a sense of unwillingness. Deep down, he heard a voice longing for that same smile; he too wanted to have that kind of Tong Le in his life.
