Hou Yi was serious. He had repeatedly expressed his desire to be with Tong Le, yet she had consistently refused him. The root of the problem could only lie in two areas: either Tong Le's marriage was a barrier, or the price had not been agreed upon.
In his heart, he regarded Tong Le as a breath of fresh air among women, but he still believed that there was no negotiation that couldn't be settled; as long as the price was right, there would always be a day when she would relent.
The office was silent. Ke Jie had been worn down to the point of exhaustion, both physically and mentally. Hou Yi quietly waited for Ke Jie to make an offer, while Tong Le remained unusually calm, watching Hou Yi's agitation with a composed demeanor.
Hou Yi grew impatient and questioned Ke Jie, asking if he was going to make the deal or not. He demanded a price that would ensure Ke Jie’s complete disappearance from Tong Le's life.
After saying this, Hou Yi's gaze fell on Tong Le, a satisfied smile spreading across his face as he felt he was about to enjoy his prize.
Ke Jie broke down again. "President Hou! Please don't toy with me!"
Suddenly, Hou Yi stood up and approached Ke Jie. Being much taller and stronger than Ke Jie, he towered over him with an intimidating presence.
Hou Yi leaned closer to Ke Jie, his eyes cold. "Am I joking with you? I’m asking you to name a price for your wife. Is fifty million not enough?"
Ke Jie trembled in fear. At that moment, he realized that Hou Yi was not just messing with him; the competitive and possessive nature between men often resembled each other closely.
However, Ke Jie couldn't understand what made Tong Le so special that it caught Hou Yi's attention. Or perhaps it was because Hou Yi was simply unhinged, so his preferences in relationships were different from those of ordinary people?
Ke Jie began calculating in his mind. Selling Tong Le for fifty million would be a huge loss; just the property under her name could fetch up to two hundred million.
Wearing only his boxers and curling up defensively, he forced a smile. "President Hou, Tong Le is my legal wife! How can I just give her away?"
At that moment, Tong Le spoke up from the sofa. "President Hou, you are serious about making an offer, right?"
Hou Yi turned around, his expression softening slightly. "Have you come to your senses? Or why not just divorce him and marry me? Whatever amount you want, I’ll give it to you."
Tong Le maintained a serious smile as she replied, "Exactly! If I divorce my husband, why should you pay him? That wouldn’t make sense at all. I can leave him at no cost; you give me the money instead—now that sounds great!"
Hou Yi laughed out loud; indeed, there were no people in this world who weren’t greedy for money. As long as the price was right, even the most principled person could be dragged into the mud.
Hou Yi said earnestly, "Then let’s go to the civil affairs bureau now and get divorced."
Tong Le reminded him, "I want five hundred million. Will you pay?"
The smile on Hou Yi's face vanished; this Tong Le truly dared to ask for such a high price. He suddenly realized that she was deliberately trying to mess with him.
Tong Le pressed on, "President Hou, why are you silent now? Just a moment ago you were so determined to marry me; why do you stop talking after I mention my ideal price? So tell me—am I getting divorced or not?"
Meanwhile, Ke Jie thought Tong Le was serious and hurriedly leaned closer behind her, whispering frantically, "What are you doing? Are you really going to divorce me?"
Tong Le turned her head and replied casually, "I’ll give you two hundred million. How does that sound?"
Ke Jie fell silent in an instant. If he truly divided two hundred million, then this deal could definitely be made. After all, everything is negotiable; what does marriage even mean?
Hou Yi felt humiliated. He had genuinely intended to help Tong Le escape the cage of her marriage, prepared to offer fifty million to buy back her freedom. If it were five hundred million, he wouldn't be able to manage that. He thought Tong Le was being unreasonable and failing to understand his intentions.
However, in Tong Le's eyes, she only saw Hou Yi as being unreasonable. She was not an object, nor a mere accessory between men. What did it mean for him to offer Ke Jie fifty million to hand her over? This terrible marriage was solely her affair, and the power to control it rested entirely with her. She was not a product, nor something that could be priced.
Moreover, even if Hou Yi dared to pull out fifty million to help her end this marriage, she would absolutely refuse such a favor.
This was the first time Tong Le encountered someone like Hou Yi; everything about him felt strange—his words and actions were both odd and perplexing.
Seeing that Hou Yi remained silent, she spoke again to end the argument. "President Hou, if you can't come up with five hundred million, then don't try to save face. I have a rough understanding of your company's situation; if you could manage even one hundred million in cash in your account, I would consider it a loss on my part."
Hou Yi's gaze deepened with confusion. "So, where do I fall short compared to this waste?"
The "waste" he referred to was Ke Jie.
Tong Le smiled slightly. "You're not lacking anywhere except for one thing: you don't have a government-certified marriage certificate. If you have no other business, shall I escort you downstairs?"
At that moment, Hou Yi's phone rang—it was Sun Hu.
Hou Yi hung up immediately, but Sun Hu called back right away.
He answered the phone irritably. "What do you want?"
Sun Hu hurriedly replied, "Brother, you crashed into Zong Zeyu's car, and it's been confiscated by him. They won't release it unless you come personally."
Hou Yi frowned. "Where is my car?"
"Your car is at Zong Group! It's being held by Zong Zeyu!" Sun Hu explained.
Hou Yi retorted, "After the accident, wasn't it supposed to be handed over to the insurance company? What are you doing?"
Sun Hu apologized, "I'm sorry, brother! I didn't know how that Zong family member managed to drive the car away from the dealership."
Hou Yi decided he would let them keep the car. Since this Zong person liked his car so much, they could wait for it as long as they wanted!
