Ke Wenjie turned and walked towards the car. Zhang Huizhi stood frozen, repeatedly mulling over the words "widow." She had thought she hated Tong Le, even wishing for her death in a fit of rage, cursing her a thousand times in her heart. Yet, she had never truly considered the possibility of killing Tong Le.
Just moments ago, her son had uttered the word "widow," and she realized Ke Wenjie was not joking. The timing of calling her husband from the countryside to the city was clearly to plot something dangerous.
Zhang Huizhi felt her legs weaken. At that moment, Ke Wenjie, already in the car, honked the horn. Startled, she hurried towards the vehicle, her son was coming.
Meanwhile, at Tongshan Real Estate Company, Tong Le arrived at the office. As soon as she entered the lobby, she headed straight for Ke Wenjie's office. In the past, she had been unable to openly search through Ke Wenjie's computer and documents, but now she had an excellent reason—one that could not be refused.
Tong Le left the office door wide open as she rummaged through files and attempted to crack the safe's code several times. She called for the secretary and ordered her to unlock Ke Wenjie's computer.
All the employees in the lobby noticed Tong Le's unusual behavior. Jiang Zhichao, eager for gossip, gathered a group of employees at the office door to witness Tong Le's frenzy.
The female secretary knew Ke Wenjie's computer password but was too afraid to log in without his permission. Tong Le rummaged through the filing cabinet for contracts and documents while addressing the female secretary, saying, "If you don't cooperate with me today, when Ke Wenjie is kicked out of this company later on, don't blame me for being rude."
Turning to see the female secretary's timid expression, Tong Le added, "This is Tongshan Real Estate; everyone knows this company belongs to me. Now that Ke Wenjie is involved in economic crimes, if you don't help me access his computer and I find something incriminating, wouldn't that make you an accomplice?"
The female secretary was frightened and quickly moved behind the desk to obediently turn on the computer.
The employees gathered at the door whispered among themselves as various rumors flew around. Jiang Zhichao wore an expression of excitement and asked loudly, "Sister Tong, what's going on? Is our President Ke going to jail?"
Tong Le exaggerated the situation deliberately. "It's not a big deal; he just went to the police station this morning and I discovered he misappropriated ten million from the company account."
With a slight smile, she continued, "What do you think? How many years would ten million get him?"
The employees erupted into chaos.
One employee passed a note to Tong Le asking, "But aren't you and President Ke married? Can he really be convicted for transferring money from the company?"
Continuing her search through contracts, Tong Le replied, "Misappropriating company funds without authorization—especially ten million in cash—is serious. Whether it’s public funds transferred to private accounts or not is unclear to me, but there are definitely significant tax issues involved. Even if Ke Wenjie and I are family, this is a company matter. Using illicit means to siphon off company money is illegal."
At that moment, Ke Wenjie arrived at the company.
Seeing a crowd gathered at his office door, he rushed forward with an imposing demeanor and shouted loudly, "What are you all doing?"
The employees scattered as Ke Wenjie reached the entrance. He saw chaos everywhere and found Tong Le rummaging through various company contracts.
Ke Wenjie stepped forward, intending to stop Tong Le.
Tong Le warned him immediately, "Everyone in the company knows about your embezzlement. If you try to prevent me from uncovering the truth, Ke Wenjie, it only proves that you have something to hide."
Ke Wenjie stood firm, while the female secretary in the room hurriedly retreated.
Tong Le rose from his seat and pointed at the safe in the corner of the office, commanding, "Open it. Since the day you brought that thing in here, I never asked you what’s inside. Is it gold bars? Or perhaps some shady contracts? Or maybe even more secrets?"
Furious, Ke Wenjie gritted his teeth and lowered his voice, "Tong Le! This is a company!"
Tong Le shouted back, "You know this is a company! So now you want to be clear about public and private matters? But when you were embezzling funds, how did you forget about that distinction?"
As Tong Le's voice echoed in the room, Ke Wenjie momentarily lost his composure. He had never seen Tong Le display such emotion or demeanor before; it was as if he had transformed from the timid and cautious person into someone fierce and confrontational.
At that moment, the sound of high heels clicked sharply against the floor as Dao Wen appeared at the office door.
Dressed in a red long dress with a black handbag, she knocked on the office door lightly. Her gaze was cold and her tone even colder. "It seems I’m late. To transfer ten million in cash from the company account, Ke Wenjie, you really are quite talented."
Ke Wenjie was filled with rage and turned to Dao Wen to scold her, "What are you doing here?"
Dao Wen sneered, "I may not have any business here, but I’ve brought a professional auditing team with me. Ke Wenjie, don’t you think it’s time for you to step aside?"
Ke Wenjie widened his eyes and glanced outside the office. Dao Wen had indeed brought several unfamiliar figures with her. It had been less than half an hour since Tong Le called Dao Wen, yet she managed to assemble this professional team so quickly. He was so furious he felt like he could slap both Tong Le and Dao Wen.
Tong Le insisted, addressing Ke Wenjie again, "Open the safe. If you dare to prove your innocence, I might still believe you. But if you refuse to cooperate with the investigation or with me, Ke Wenjie, we’ll start the divorce proceedings right now."
