At this moment, Ke Wenjie clenched his fists, a layer of sweat forming on his back. He dared not open the safe, for inside, besides some gold bars and cash, lay a disk containing illicit videos of him and other women. He had this peculiar obsession; he knew it was wrong, yet he couldn't bring himself to delete them. Not only that, but he also made backups to prevent any loss.
In a moment of desperation, Ke Wenjie shoved Tong Le aside and pointed at her, accusing her in return. "You must be crazy! I think it's you who wants a divorce! Someone told me before that your late nights were due to cheating with other men. I didn't believe it then, but now I do. You’re going to any lengths to force me into a divorce, fabricating lies! Tong Le, how did I not see before that you are such a venomous woman? You betray our marriage but refuse to admit it while trying to claim our assets. Is this all just a charade to confuse me? You’re attempting this underhanded tactic to destroy my life and career, and then push me into divorce, aren’t you? Your scheming is truly malicious; I can’t believe it took me this long to realize!"
Ke Wenjie painted himself as the victim, while Wen, standing nearby, was almost numb from the drama. She had seen many actors in her life but never one as theatrical as him.
Unable to hold back her laughter, Wen spoke up. "Are you brave enough to let us investigate? If you're brave, then be brave; if you're not, then just admit it. Why suddenly throw around such baseless accusations? Ke Wenjie, can you act like a man? Give me a straightforward decision; otherwise, I'll hire a professional team to dig into your private affairs."
Wen's words struck home. Ke Wenjie looked at her with barely contained fury. "Tong Le, having friends like you is the worst luck! She’s only gone bad because of you! People like you are the worst influence; you must have encouraged Tong Le to cheat! And now you're inciting her to investigate me!"
Wen was fed up; she had no patience for Ke Wenjie's whining. She began counting down: "Ten, nine, eight, seven..."
Tong Le watched with amusement; having someone like Wen backing her gave her newfound courage.
Realizing he could no longer stay there under the watchful eyes of the company employees, Ke Wenjie knew he had lost control over the situation. Whether they investigated or not was beyond his power now. Even if he tried to stop them today, if Tong Le or Wen—or any other dissatisfied employee—called the police, there would be no way to resolve this mess.
In a panic, Ke Wenjie chose to flee.
He stormed out of the office without looking back or uttering a word about Xiang Dai.
This caught Tong Le by surprise.
After he left, Tong Le blinked in confusion. "Is that it?"
Wen shrugged. "Why stick around? Are we supposed to wait here for him to come back and berate us?"
Wen gestured to the professional team behind her. "Let’s get started."
As Tong Le stepped out of the office door and addressed the employees in the lobby, she said, "Everyone carry on with your work as usual; if there's anything urgent, come report to me."
In Tong Le's office, the professional team began their work.
Wen sat on the sofa and glanced at the conspicuous safe with curiosity. "So what kind of secrets are hidden in there that would make Ke Wenjie refuse to reveal the password and just leave?"
Tong Le organized some contracts while replying, "I don’t know; he has plenty of secrets."
Wen added, "I'll send a few people here to keep an eye on things. If Ke Wenjie tries to cause trouble again, I'll have them throw him out. This audit will take three to five days; it can't be done in just one or two days. Some tasks will require Ke Wenjie's cooperation, but clearly he's turned into a turtle hiding in its shell."
Looking at the stack of documents before her, Tong Le let out a long sigh.
She spoke softly so only she and Wen could hear. "If this goes smoothly, will I finally be able to take over Tongshan Real Estate and then divorce Ke Wenjie? First the house, then the savings—now all that's left is Tongshan Real Estate."
Wen quietly reminded her, "Aren't you still investigating your parents' deaths? Haven't you always suspected Ke Wenjie?"
Tong Le took a deep breath. "Yes, but I need more evidence. I used to hate him with a passion, but now I just want to cut ties quickly. I don’t want him to hold me back from my future."
Wen smiled knowingly. "Ah, you have someone better to look forward to."
At that moment, Tong Le's phone buzzed with a WeChat message from Zong Zeyu: "I’ll pick you up tonight. My mom wants to invite you and Wen for dinner."
As Tong Le read the message, a commotion erupted at the office door. She looked up to see a familiar yet disdainful face appear—Hou Yi.
Dressed in gray sportswear and exuding a lazy demeanor, Hou Yi never came empty-handed. This time, he brought milk tea for each employee in the Office Lobby.
He strolled into the office, clearly well-informed. "I heard there’s some internal strife at Tongshan Real Estate?"
Tong Le spoke up, noting how quickly news traveled. "It seems President Hou has been bribing my company’s employees. Just a few minutes ago, and it’s already reached your ears."
Hou Yi shrugged nonchalantly. "Just a small favor; I know a thing or two about these matters."
He scanned the office before suggesting, "Since Ke Wenjie has run off, how about I buy this company?"
Pointing at Tong Le and then at himself, he added, "You can be the boss lady, and I’ll be the boss."
On the sofa, Wen crossed her arms and looked Hou Yi up and down with disdain. "Just got rid of one fool, and now another shows up?"
