Following behind Zong Zeyu, Tong Le, and Tian Ling, the three of them strolled side by side. Tian Ling kept a close watch on Fan Qinghua's movements, feeling frustrated as she longed to strike up a conversation with her, but Fan Qinghua seemed uninterested in engaging.
At that moment, Tian Ling's phone buzzed with a WeChat message from Ke Wenjie. He asked if Tong Le was with her. Tian Ling showed her phone to Tong Le, who gave her a knowing glance. Understanding the cue, Tian Ling pressed the voice input button, and Tong Le spoke up, "I'm with Tian Ling, so don’t worry."
Tian Ling chimed in, "Can you stop being so paranoid? Otherwise, I might just block you!"
As the voice message was sent, Zong Zeyu teased them from the side, "I just spoke too; let's give Ke Wenjie a scare."
Tian Ling replied nervously, "Do you really think he wouldn't call the police right away and then announce to the whole world that Tong Le is cheating?"
Zong Zeyu was puzzled. "What would be his purpose in doing that?"
Tong Le sighed bitterly. "He could definitely do something like that. He used to brainwash me by exaggerating every little thing and magnifying my weaknesses to try to control me mentally. He would even fabricate mistakes I never made and impose them on me until I started believing I had actually done something wrong."
Zong Zeyu fell silent for a moment, clearly feeling for Tong Le. But he quickly shifted the mood. "That’s quite a remarkable trick; I’d like to see it for myself. Maybe I could learn a thing or two and control you mentally."
Tong Le responded, "I've learned my lesson the hard way; I can't keep falling into the same trap!"
Linking arms with Tian Ling, she said to Zong Zeyu, "Why don’t you go chat with Zong Jin? We’ll head back to our room for some rest."
Not long after Tong Le and Tian Ling entered their room, there was a knock at the door. Tong Le assumed it was Zong Zeyu and complained as she opened it, "Didn’t we say we were resting?"
But to her surprise, it was Wen Cuizhi standing there.
"Hello, Auntie," Tong Le said hurriedly.
Wen Cuizhi invited her, "Would you like to accompany me to the rooftop bar on the third floor?"
Tong Le nodded eagerly.
The two went to the rooftop bar on the third floor of the hotel, where they had a prime view overlooking the entire beach coastline. They could even see Zong Jin and Zong Zeyu walking along the shore.
Wen Cuizhi handed Tong Le a glass of pineapple juice and candidly asked, "How are things going with your family? Is there anything you need help with?"
Tong Le quickly waved her hand. "No, everything is fine. Thank you for your concern."
Wen Cuizhi continued, "Once you divorce Ke Wenjie, we can start planning your wedding with Zeyu. I hope to see both of you walk into the halls of marriage this year."
Tong Le's heart raced as she listened to Wen Cuizhi. She knew that what Wen Cuizhi was saying came from the heart, but she wasn't prepared for it.
Wen Cuizhi said, "I've heard about your overseas investment contract and the transfer of twenty million in cash. While there may be no legal issues with this, I must remind you not to underestimate the darker side of human nature. You’ve grown up in comfort as a young lady, and because you’ve never encountered someone like Ke Wenjie—who has fought his way up from the bottom and is filled with a desire for success—you naively believe that everyone in this world is inherently good. You must understand that twenty million in cash is equivalent to taking the lives of his entire family for someone like Ke Wenjie. It’s as if you’re robbing him of his entire existence. When he discovers that you are behind this overseas investment contract, I can’t help but worry that he might go after you with deadly intent."
Wen Cuizhi added, "Of course, not all common folks are as ruthless as Ke Wenjie. People like him are still in the minority. I’ve looked into some information about Ke Wenjie—his family background, upbringing, work style, and moral boundaries—all of which make me uneasy."
