The phone call left Ke Wenjie stunned. As the son of Zhang Huizhi, he was well aware of his mother's personality. Having lived under the same roof for years, he had seen firsthand how Zhang Huizhi bullied Tong Le. He had always turned a blind eye to her behavior.
So, he was utterly shocked to hear that Tong Le had praised Zhang Huizhi behind her back, calling her an extraordinary mother-in-law.
This was completely unexpected for Ke Wenjie. Logically, Tong Le should have been venting about her mother-in-law, not singing her praises.
He asked Lan Qingqing how exactly Tong Le had praised his mother.
Lan Qingqing replied, "She said all sorts of things! I can't remember exactly what, but it was all positive. However, I didn't feel that way at all!"
Ke Wenjie pressed on, "Does my mom really dislike me? Is she deliberately targeting me? If that's the case, I’ll move out!"
Ke Wenjie tried to reassure her, "My mom has that kind of personality. She can be considerate; you just haven't spent enough time with her. But she’s not wrong either—it's inappropriate for a woman like you to stay at Mo Kai Liang's place."
Lan Qingqing shouted back, "Whose side are you on? I'm pregnant!"
Ke Wenjie sighed in annoyance. "Don't yell. In a few days, my dad and Jin Feng will leave, and my mom will go back home. Just hold on a little longer. But seriously, are your emotions stable? Is it the hormones from your pregnancy? You and Tong Le are both in the same boat—your hormones are all over the place. Tong Le is even talking about divorce."
Frustrated, Ke Wenjie thought he was going crazy dealing with these women.
Lan Qingqing retorted angrily, "What do hormones have to do with anything? Anyway, before your mom moves out, I'm staying at Mo Kai Liang's house. I can't sleep on the sofa!"
Ke Wenjie replied dismissively, "Do as you please. I have to go out of town for a couple of days to handle that twenty million issue. Take care of yourself."
After hanging up the phone, Lan Qingqing went to the bathroom and filled a basin with water. She walked into He Shui Xian's small bedroom and silently watched her for a moment. The room smelled terrible, but she had grown accustomed to it.
He Shui Xian looked pale; after several days without proper care, she felt as though her time was running out.
She spoke up, "That mother-in-law of yours clearly isn't human. Maybe your friend already knows about your affair with Ke Wenjie and is just messing with you by saying she's a great person."
He Shui Xian mocked her further, "You know what? With that face of yours, you're destined to be a concubine! You won't end well, Lan Qingqing; you've done too many bad things!"
Lan Qingqing had intended to help He Shui Xian clean up but lost her temper upon hearing those harsh words. She splashed the cold water from the basin onto He Shui Xian's face. He Shui Xian's hair and clothes were drenched, but she didn't get angry; instead, she laughed loudly to provoke Lan Qingqing further.
Driven mad by that laughter, Lan Qingqing grabbed the basin and slammed it against He Shui Xian's face while shouting, "I’ll make you regret cursing me! Even if I have a concubine's face, it's still inherited from you—this disgusting old hag! You're wrong! You think you're the smartest in the world? Dream on! You and Tong Le are both useless fools! If Tong Le knew about my affair with Ke Wenjie, that would be a real miracle! That stupid pig wouldn’t have been fooled by Ke Wenjie if she had any brains!"
With each hit growing more forceful, Lan Qingqing yelled, "I'll show you who’s truly clever! I'll show you who’s delusional! I'll kill you old hag! I'll kill that damned Tong Le!"
