On the other side, Tong Le arrived at Tongshan Real Estate Company. Since Ke Wenjie was not in the office, the employees in the lobby appeared quite lazy. The auditing work was still ongoing, and the employees had already become aware of the internal conflicts and issues within the company. It seemed that everyone had developed a skeptical attitude towards the company's future, with some even contemplating resignations.
The atmosphere in the office was growing increasingly strange. With Ke Wenjie absent from work today, the employees were even less able to focus on their tasks. Tong Le had never experienced such a situation before, and naturally, she could not predict what was on the employees' minds.
The auditing work was proceeding methodically in Ke Wenjie's office. To avoid disturbing them, Tong Le chose to work at a desk in the lobby, handling her completed projects. During this time, three employees approached her to express their desire to leave the company.
Faced with this situation, Tong Le's first instinct was to retain them. After all, these individuals were long-time employees of Tongshan Real Estate. If she allowed them to resign without intervention, it would only complicate matters for her later on. Tong Le knew she could not find suitable replacements quickly, and good employees required time to nurture.
However, as Tong Le took the resignation letters from the employees, she suddenly realized that perhaps this was a deliberate challenge posed by Ke Wenjie. Since she had engaged a third-party agency to investigate him, Ke Wenjie might have intentionally incited his capable subordinates to threaten resignation.
Receiving the resignation letters without immediately responding, Tong Le politely told the three employees that she would finish her current tasks before addressing their situation. "Is that alright?" she asked.
The leading male employee responded curtly, "If you approve our resignations, we can go to HR to complete the process."
Tong Le looked at the trio—two men and one woman—who were indeed long-time employees of the company. However, she recalled that they had all been recruited by Ke Wenjie and were likely trusted by him.
Tong Le decided it was crucial to remain calm during such a moment. If she allowed her emotions to be swayed by these resignation letters, it would undermine her authority. Just as she prepared to speak, Jiang Zhichao stood up and expressed his dissatisfaction. "What are you doing? Suddenly deciding to resign? Is it because you think the company doesn't treat you well? If I remember correctly, you three claimed to be among the highest-paid in the company. Now you want to leave out of nowhere? Each of you is responsible for an independent department—are you trying to paralyze the company?"
The leading male employee wore a smug expression as he replied, "The reason we want to leave is that there's nothing here for us anymore. Today, Ke Zong isn't even at the office; it's obvious that a third party is investigating us! We were all nurtured by Ke Zong himself; now that he's not here anymore, why should we stay? Are we supposed to wait for some clueless housewife to lead us to success and take us public?"
After saying this, all three of them shared a quiet laugh.
Tong Le understood perfectly well that these three had likely conspired together and were probably sent by Ke Wenjie to stir up trouble. Just as Jiang Zhichao was about to retort, Tong Le raised her hand to stop him.
She addressed the three employees firmly: "Let's hold off on your resignations for a moment. Once I finish my current work, I will address your issues collectively. Of course, I'm not forcing any of you to stay; everyone has their own life choices—that's completely normal. However, resignations typically require a month's notice. Until your formal departure is finalized, you still need to fulfill your job responsibilities. So please return to your respective workstations."
The three employees exchanged glances with one another. The leading male employee seemed ready to say more, but Tong Le sensed his intent to provoke further trouble. She immediately displayed her impatience and adopted a colder tone. "If you insist on having me sign right now, that's not impossible; however, I must remind you that I will reserve my right to investigate your actions. Furthermore, I will need to report this matter to the police. Until the audit is complete, if any economic crimes occur within the company, no one will escape responsibility."
The three employees were taken aback; they had merely intended to submit resignation requests and create some trouble for Tong Le but never expected her response would escalate into police involvement and accusations of economic crime!
Clearly intimidated by her words, they realized that if Ke Wenjie truly committed any wrongdoing, they too would not be able to escape unscathed.
The female employee's tone had softened considerably. "We're not in a hurry. Let's head back to work, and you can take your time with your matters." She quickly pulled the two male employees along and hurried away.
As the noise faded, Jiang Zhichao swiftly retrieved the identity information of the three employees, along with their involvement in various significant and minor projects over the past three years.
"Nice job! You're really getting the hang of things," Tong Le exclaimed with delight.
Jiang Zhichao leaned closer to Tong Le and said earnestly, "I knew following you was the right choice! I’m determined to make it! I believe this company will eventually be back in your hands!"
Tong Le smiled faintly as he flipped through the files of the three employees. As expected, they were all loyal subordinates of Ke Wenjie.
Lost in thought, Tong Le pondered his next move.
Meanwhile, Jiang Zhichao quietly suggested, "Why not just fire them all? I can help you recruit new people; this time we can build our own network."
Tong Le frowned slightly and shook his head. "We can't let them all go; we need to keep one."
Jiang Zhichao looked puzzled. "Why? Those three are clearly Ke Wenjie's pawns. Keeping one around would only add to your risks!"
