At the entrance of the conference room, Zhou Dahai was beaten half to death by Hou Yi.
When Hou Yi got angry, he showed no mercy to himself or his opponent. His hands, always stained with blood, seemed to grow more excited the more blood they encountered. Peng Jun and Han Sister rushed out of the conference room, both trying to intervene, but nearly took a punch from Hou Yi themselves.
Fortunately, Tong Le shouted Hou Yi's name just in time. Hou Yi halted his assault and turned to look at Tong Le. As Tong Le and Jiang Zhichao stepped out through the glass door, they found Zhou Dahai slumped against the wall, one eye swollen shut and blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
Zhou Dahai, who was usually quite robust, now lay there weak and powerless. No matter how much he ate or how strong he appeared, he couldn't compete with the enduring fighting spirit of Hou Yi.
Gasping for breath, Zhou Dahai dared not provoke Hou Yi further; he knew he had messed with the wrong person. Yet as a man, he felt compelled to salvage some dignity. He pointed a trembling finger at Tong Le's face and cursed loudly, "I will call the police! You are taking personal revenge on me! You want me to resign, so you deliberately had someone beat me up! Tong Le, you venomous woman! I won't let you get away with this! You don't deserve to run this company! You're miles behind Ke Zong!"
As Zhou Dahai vented his anger at Tong Le, a front tooth flew out along with his spit.
Tong Le remained unfazed, but this tirade only served to further infuriate Hou Yi. Quick as lightning, Hou Yi seized Zhou Dahai's outstretched finger, instinctively preparing to snap it for its audacity.
Seeing the situation escalate, Tong Le immediately called out, "Hou Yi!"
Hou Yi halted his movement; had he not stopped just then, Zhou Dahai's finger would have likely been broken and hanging limply by now.
Zhou Dahai was petrified; as he screamed in terror, he also wet himself in fear.
Watching Zhou Dahai's soul leave his body in fright reminded Tong Le that he was indeed cut from the same cloth as Ke Jie; even their reactions to fear were similar.
Disgusted, Hou Yi muttered under his breath, "Damn it, how pathetic!"
Tong Le turned to Hou Yi and commanded, "Can you not cause trouble in my company?"
Hou Yi replied with a smirk directed at Tong Le, "I was just about to teach him a lesson; I’m merely acting on behalf of justice."
"I don't need that," Tong Le said firmly. "Just leave my company quickly, okay?"
Hou Yi shrugged; he didn’t want to see Tong Le angry. Although her anger made her more alluring, it wasn’t good for her health—after all, she was carrying a child.
Surprisingly enough to himself, Hou Yi felt a pang of concern for someone else's child. However, if winning Tong Le’s heart meant becoming a father figure, that didn’t seem too difficult.
Raising his hands in surrender towards Tong Le, he said, "Alright, I’ll go."
With that said, Hou Yi turned around and squatted down in front of Zhou Dahai. With a sinister smile, he warned him, "After I leave, if you dare lay a finger on Tong Le again, I will break every finger in your family."
Hou Yi left Tongshan Real Estate.
In the corridor, the scene unfolded like a farce, witnessed by everyone in the company.
Zhou Dahai certainly would not let this go. If he couldn’t take on Hou Yi, could he not handle Tong Le? Today, he had been beaten to a pulp, and it was all Tong Le's fault! He needed an explanation from Tong Le! He hadn’t officially resigned yet; this was a workplace injury!
As Zhou Dahai prepared to stir up trouble, Peng Jun tightly gripped his arm and whispered in his ear.
Tong Le watched as the fury in Zhou Dahai's eyes transformed into self-doubt, ultimately leading him to swallow his anger.
Zhou Dahai turned his head and glared at Peng Jun, "You traitor!"
He then lashed out at Han Sister behind Peng Jun, "You two ungrateful wretches! Don’t you recognize Ke Zong’s kindness towards you?"
Han Sister hid behind Peng Jun, remaining silent.
Peng Jun leaned in again to whisper to Zhou Dahai. With a belly full of rage, Zhou Dahai had no choice but to compromise, accepting his misfortune and ending the farce.
With the matter resolved reasonably, Tong Le felt a weight lift off her shoulders. She gave Zhou Dahai a final notice and warning: complete your resignation paperwork today and leave the company within three days. Any unfinished work would be handled by Peng Jun. As for your disruptive behavior today, I won’t pursue it further—for now.
With that, Tong Le turned to leave, followed by Jiang Zhichao with a smug grin.
Zhou Dahai couldn’t help but curse at Tong Le’s retreating figure a couple of times, but it was merely empty words with no real impact.
In the afternoon, at Zong Shi Yan Tuan.
On her way to Zong Shi Yan Tuan, Tong Le received a call from Ke Jie.
When the call connected, Tong Le remained silent.
On the other end, Ke Jie struggled to suppress his emotions and accused her, "You fired Zhou Dahai and even beat him up! It was Hou Yi from Yi Sheng Construction Company who did it, right? Was that intentional? Tong Le, how come I never noticed you had such tactics before? You waited until I was out of the office to pull this disgusting stunt? I was just out of the office today! Are you dead set on divorcing me?"
Listening to Ke Jie’s barrage of questions, Tong Le momentarily didn’t know which one to respond to first; however, it didn’t matter much as she hadn’t intended to answer seriously anyway.
Tong Le's car happened to stop right outside Zong Shi Yan Tuan. Holding her phone, she leisurely got out of the car. The scorching sunlight made it hard for her to open her eyes.
Ke Jie’s voice came through again, "I’m asking you a question! Are you trying to drive me crazy? I’m on my way back for that twenty million! Over two thousand kilometers! I can’t buy a plane ticket; I have no choice but to take the train!"
Tong Le chuckled and replied, "What are you saying? If you’re not taking the train, are you walking? Your mother lost Tong Family’s money; isn’t it normal for you as her son to want it back? Are you doing all this for me? For what? Because I want money? Get it straight—your mother lost twenty million!"
Ke Jie was momentarily speechless; he rarely heard Tong Le speak so sharply to him. He thought back carefully about where he had gone wrong with her—how had she suddenly changed so much?
Tong Le impatiently said, "If you're not going to talk, I'm hanging up. I’m busy."
