Hearing that word, Zong Zeyu's gloomy mood vanished in an instant. He had intended to maintain a serious facade, but he simply couldn't help himself; the significance of that word was just too great!
Tong Le, unaware of the impact her words had, felt that what she had just expressed was akin to "I love you" or "I am willing" in Zong Zeyu's ears. That word almost confirmed their relationship.
Zong Zeyu was already overjoyed; in his mind, he and Tong Le were just one step away from getting a marriage certificate and starting a family—everything was ready except for the right moment!
He didn’t even realize he had been grinning like a fool for half the day. Just moments ago, he had been looking at Tong Le with a questioning expression, his face full of grievance, which surprisingly tugged at her heartstrings.
His usual domineering demeanor was nowhere to be found.
Tong Le felt a bit embarrassed. If she didn’t know Zong Zeyu at least a little, she would have thought something was off with his mental state.
"You really change your mood quickly," she remarked.
Zong Zeyu cleared his throat and reined in his smile. After all, he had to maintain some dignity; the image of a strong man couldn’t collapse! Although it was true that men could turn into children when they encountered true love, he wanted to wait until he completely won Tong Le over before letting his inner child out.
Suddenly, Zong Zeyu put on an exaggerated air of arrogance. "I knew you were just being shy about expressing your feelings before. Anyway, you’re going to marry me eventually, so this property is still yours."
Tong Le found his logic baffling. "I wasn’t shy at all! And why would I marry you? I told you I don’t want that property."
Zong Zeyu had already received the answer he wanted and wouldn’t continue to dwell on such trivial matters. The most important thing was that when a man was filled with inexplicable confidence, he wouldn’t listen to any objections.
Tong Le looked at him as if he were a fool. She knew Zong Zeyu had feelings for her but hadn’t expected them to be so strong! She even realized that she could now manipulate his emotions with just a few words. It dawned on her—this must be what it means to have a "love-struck brain."
Still lost in his joyful emotions, Zong Zeyu stood up and called for his secretary, instructing them to arrange work for Zhou Ting as quickly as possible. He wanted to complete the task assigned by his wife, Xiang Dai, as fast as he could.
When it came to business matters, Zong Zeyu remained rational and composed, which relieved Tong Le; at least his mind seemed intact.
At six in the evening, Tong Le left the company alongside Zong Zeyu. Since it was after work hours, employees were gradually exiting the Zongshi Yuantuan Building. Zong Zeyu showed no signs of restraint; he walked ahead while Tong Le followed behind, preparing to take her out for dinner.
Worried about what people from the company might say, Tong Le deliberately distanced herself from him. By the time Zong Zeyu noticed that his wife wasn’t beside him and turned around, he realized he had already exited the building while Tong Le lingered by the elevator.
Zong Zeyu immediately called out loudly from the lobby, "Wife! Hurry up!"
His shout caught the attention of all employees present.
At this hour, there were at least thirty or forty people leaving the building. Everyone turned around to look for this "wife" mentioned by Xiao Zong Zong; it was sensational news that the company’s president had a wife!
Tong Le felt like her head was about to explode. She wished she could disappear into the elevator or hide in a trash can—anything to avoid being found by Zong Zeyu!
She quickly turned and dashed into the elevator, only to run into Wu Youyou coming out of it.
Tong Le was just about to call for backup when Wu Youyou struck her with a blow that left her reeling. "Aren't you supposed to be going on a date with Zong Zeyu? Where is he now?" Wu Youyou asked, her tone sharp.
The employees in the elevator were not oblivious; they were all ears, catching every word of the juicy gossip. Tong Le felt as if she could never wash this away.
At that moment, Zong Zeyu appeared at the elevator entrance, and as soon as he stepped in, people instinctively moved aside. He called out to Tong Le's back, "Why are you still inside?"
Tong Le was drenched in cold sweat, surrounded by countless eyes and ears eager to dissect the explosive gossip. Even those without a clue could clearly see the tangled relationships at play.
With a stiff body, Tong Le turned around, wishing she could bite Zong Zeyu in frustration. He suppressed a mischievous smile and said, "If you don’t come out soon, it’s going to get complicated."
Tong Le was so furious that her scalp tingled. In an instant, she transformed into a bolt of lightning, sprinting toward the company’s entrance, desperate to escape the situation.
Zong Zeyu chased after her until they reached a point where only a few pedestrians remained. He grabbed her wrist and said, "The restaurant isn’t this way."
Tong Le was infuriated; how could he still think about eating? "Do you have any idea what you just did? Zong Zeyu, you did that on purpose! You promised me that until I got the divorce certificate, you wouldn’t do anything out of line."
Tong Le was on the verge of breaking down. "Yes, I admitted in the office that I have feelings for you, but I never agreed to publicly acknowledge our relationship right now! Have you forgotten what I said before? I don’t want my issues to ruin your reputation. What you’re doing is throwing my plans into disarray."
After venting her frustrations, Tong Le and Zong Zeyu exchanged silent glances.
Quickly, Tong Le calmed down. Her expression turned helpless, filled with self-reproach. Her tone softened as she continued, "No, this is my fault. I shouldn’t have forced you to hide your feelings. I shouldn’t have shown my affection before sorting out my own affairs. This is all my doing; I shouldn’t have taken my anger out on you when you’ve been nothing but supportive."
With her head bowed like a deflated balloon, she felt both apologetic and guilty for taking out her bad temper on someone who cared for her. She realized that it was her own inability to restrain herself that had led to this moment—her genuine feelings had slipped out despite her intentions to keep them hidden.
She felt selfish and greedy for wanting more than she should have at this point.
