The investigation into the housing incident was proceeding methodically, with police inquiries ongoing but discreetly conducted to avoid alerting the poisoner. As a result, the case remained under wraps.
Through coordinated investigations and Zong Zeyu's extensive connections, they uncovered within just two days that there were chemical substances inside the wall—only a few milligrams but extremely harmful, equivalent to chronic poisoning. Moreover, this substance was not something an ordinary person could obtain; tracing its source would take time.
During this period, Tong Le kept a close watch on Ke Jie’s movements. She reasonably suspected that the radiation in the walls was orchestrated by Ke Jie.
This morning, Tong Le arrived at the company early. The internal audit had concluded; although they had gathered some evidence of Ke Jie misappropriating funds and diverting company resources, taking Ke Jie to court would be challenging. Knowing Ke Jie well, she anticipated he would insist that it was a mutual decision between spouses since they were still legally married.
Tong Le needed to find a highly professional and experienced lawyer to handle this case.
In her office, Tong Le received a message from a private investigator. The investigator reported: "I've been staking out near Ke Jie's rented apartment for two days. Someone is knocking down walls there; although it's quiet, I saw someone carrying out very trashy bags. I opened one of them and found some rubble."
A cold sweat broke out on Tong Le’s forehead. Knocking down walls?
The investigator replied, "Yes, but I don't know exactly what they're doing."
Tong Le urgently asked, "Have you taken photos over these days? Did you capture Ke Jie leaving that apartment during the wall demolition?"
The investigator responded: "I did take photos, but Ke Jie hasn't been seen at that apartment. Instead, Ke Jie’s brother, Ke Wei Qiang, frequently comes in and out of that place. It seems like Ke Wei Qiang has hired someone to renovate and knock down walls inside."
At that moment, Tong Le's phone rang—it was Ke Jie.
Taking a deep breath to steady her emotions, she answered the call.
On the other end, Ke Jie said warmly, "Let's meet up; I've prepared a surprise for you."
"Tell me, what surprise have you prepared for me this time?" Tong Le said directly.
Ke Jie smiled and replied, "Don't say it like that. I've rented you a place in the best location downtown. I know I haven't treated you well in the past, but I'm slowly making it up to you. Shall we get started?"
Meanwhile, on the other side, Lan Qingqing had completed all the procedures for selling her apartment, with Mo Kai Liang by her side as they got into the car together.
Looking at the balance in her bank account on her phone, Lan Qingqing felt a bit more confident. She glanced down at her abdomen and hesitated. "Do you think I should terminate this pregnancy today? I feel like there's no hope with Ke Jie anymore."
