Ke Jie was lost in his own beautiful fantasies when Tong Le reminded him, "What are you thinking? I asked you where the keys are. You rented me a place, so you need to give me the keys."
Ke Jie quickly pulled out a spare key from his pocket. "Here, there are two keys—one for you and one for me. You should move in today. You've been living at Tian Ling's place, and it's not convenient."
Tong Le weighed the key in her hand and casually replied, "Alright then. You and Zhang Huizhi should move in too. Since we're starting over, let's do it as a family. We can all get along and start fresh."
Ke Jie had already thought this through. "Honey, I've made plans. I won’t let my mom stay with you anymore. You two always have conflicts, and I’m worried it will affect your mood, especially since you're pregnant now. I won’t let her disturb you."
Tong Le cut straight to the point, "So now you know that I have irreconcilable differences with your mom? Why did it take you so long to realize that? You used to just turn a blind eye and pretend not to know anything."
Ke Jie endured it all. "I only recently understood this."
Tong Le said, "If you're moving in, aren't you trying to make it up to me? I want to see how you plan to do that."
Ke Jie insisted again, "I don’t deserve to live in such an expensive place! Didn’t I just say? I applied for jobs at big companies, and those places are far from here. I can just stay in a dormitory; it’s no big deal."
Hearing this series of excuses only confirmed Tong Le's suspicions that there might be some harmful radioactive materials hidden within the walls of this house. The same tactics were being used again to harm people.
Tong Le felt a chill run down her spine. If this were before, she might have believed Ke Jie’s nonsense; back then, she didn’t even know how she had died.
She was filled with hatred for her parents who had died because of Ke Jie, and Liu Qing’s parents who were innocently implicated as well. Now, the slaughter had fallen upon her once more. A single person had stained their hands with so many lives; how could he not be afraid? Instead, he seemed to escalate his actions.
Is killing really addictive?
She wanted to ask Ke Jie if killing truly became an addiction.
"Alright then," Tong Le said smoothly. "I’ll live alone in this big house; at least I’ll have some peace and quiet. I quite like this place; it must be expensive."
Ke Jie smiled and replied, "As long as you're happy, I’m willing to pay any amount."
Tong Le said, "You go ahead and take care of your things; I’ll start preparing for the move in the next couple of days."
Ke Jie looked delighted. "Great! I'll go take care of my stuff then. I'll show you how well I can do!"
After Ke Jie left, Tong Le stood by the window for a moment in silence. She watched Ke Jie’s figure walk out of the community and get into his car. At that moment, she took out her phone and called the officer in charge of the drug case hidden within the walls of Mountain Water Villa.
Tong Le explained her situation to the officer; she suspected that there might be drugs hidden in her current residence. She didn’t have any evidence except for some photos taken by a private investigator showing Ke Wei Qiang frequently entering and exiting the community without any images of Ke Jie.
Upon learning about the situation, the officer immediately took discreet action.
At that time, Tong Le also received some bad news: while investigating the drug case at Mountain Water Villa, police checked surveillance footage from earlier but unfortunately found that the recordings were too old to be preserved. With no other options, they could only search for leads on the purchase records of toxic substances.
The drug case at Mountain Water Villa lacked direct evidence linking Ke Jie and Ke Wei Qiang to it; however, since Ke Wei Qiang had worked at a factory for some time, there was a slight breakthrough in the case.
The most unfavorable aspect was that even if they found evidence pointing to Ke Wei Qiang as responsible for hiding drugs, if he took all the blame alone without any links back to Ke Jie being established by police investigation, it was very likely that Ke Jie would be presumed innocent.
This was the most frustrating aspect for Tong Le. Fortunately, with Ke Jie employing the same old tricks again, she was eager to uncover evidence of Ke Jie’s wrongdoing in the house beneath her feet!
