Suddenly, Ke Jie stood up. He needed to see Tong Le as quickly as possible. He had to make her believe that he had nothing to do with the drugs hidden in the wall; it was all the doing of Ke Wei Qiang!
Ke Jie picked up his phone and called Tong Le.
When the call connected, he spoke nervously, "Honey, where are you right now? I need to talk to you."
On the other end of the line, Tong Le was silent for a moment before she shouted at Ke Jie with a hoarse voice, "I just ran into the police near our neighborhood! They said this house has been maliciously used to hide drugs! And my parents' old house was also used for that! Ke Jie! You and your father killed my parents, didn't you?!"
Just as Ke Jie was about to explain, the call was abruptly disconnected. He tried calling back, but no one answered.
Meanwhile, at Zong Group.
In Zong Zeyu's office, Tong Le had been so intense in her performance that she choked on her words and struggled to catch her breath.
Zong Zeyu quickly brought her a cup of water, looking worried. "You can act all you want, but shouting like that will ruin your throat."
Tong Le coughed repeatedly before drinking half a cup of water. She wiped her mouth and said, "The biggest problem now is how to find evidence of Ke Jie’s crime. He has already been released by the police because they couldn't find any evidence against him. But we both know he is the mastermind; his father, Ke Wei Qiang, is just following his orders."
Zong Zeyu remained calm. "I think we shouldn't act rashly right now. We should observe the situation and wait for the police investigation results. The police are proceeding legally and according to protocol; there's no way Ke Wei Qiang can escape this. Once the police find themselves unable to gather evidence, we can use our connections and methods to assist. We can't rush this; the more anxious we are, the more alert our opponent will become. We need to be even calmer than the murderer."
Tong Le nodded. "Okay, I’ll listen to you."
She pondered for a moment before continuing, "Now that Liu Qing's parents' case has also been taken over by the police, both their old house and this rented one have been found to contain radioactive materials. Moreover, there’s solid evidence of Ke Wei Qiang’s crime captured on camera; it all depends on whether he will confess about Ke Jie."
Tong Le felt troubled; she knew that Ke Wei Qiang would definitely take the blame for Ke Jie.
Zong Zeyu spoke up again. "From what we see now, it does seem that Ke Wei Qiang is taking all the blame upon himself. His reason for killing is that when he renovated your parents' house, he was responsible for it for a few days. He claims he couldn’t stand seeing his son being a son-in-law and felt his son was wronged in his wife's family, so he secretly hid drugs there. He also said that Ke Jie knew nothing about it."
Tong Le sighed. "What a reasonable excuse! This Ke Wei Qiang is determined to take the fall for his son. But it makes sense; if both of them were sentenced to death or life imprisonment together, it would be better for one person to bear all of it and just get executed."
Zong Zeyu reminded her, "Since you started working at our company under the pretense of collaborating on projects between our two companies, I feel like Ke Jie will be looking for you frequently in the coming days. With me around, you'll have less trouble."
Tong Le nodded in agreement.
Suddenly, she thought of someone who might know something—perhaps Jin Feng? Right now, Jin Feng and Jin Zi Meng were temporarily on her side. If Jin Feng knew about Ke Wei Qiang and Ke Jie’s conspiracy, could she serve as a witness?
Zong Zeyu didn’t hold much hope. "I think Jin Feng is someone who keeps her distance from matters that don't concern her; she probably wouldn’t even bother getting involved."
On another side.
At Zhang Huizhi's residence.
Ke Jie returned to his room and locked himself inside.
Zhang Huizhi glanced at the time and realized it was about time to start cooking. No matter how big the task seemed, she needed to fill her stomach first.
She initially thought about going upstairs to find Mo Kai Liang to cook together, but then it struck her that there was also Jin Feng across the hall! If Ke Wei Qiang wasn’t coming home, then Jin Feng would be all alone—wasn’t that a perfect opportunity for her to take charge?
Zhang Huizhi felt a surge of excitement. With Ke Wei Qiang away, she had to settle the score with that little vixen, Jin Feng! Especially regarding that piece of land in the countryside; she had to get it back!
Without hesitation, Zhang Huizhi stormed over to the door across the hall. She knocked, but no one answered; she shouted, but still no response.
Growing impatient, she yanked on the doorknob, only to find that the door wasn’t locked at all—it had merely been left ajar.
Pushing the door open, Zhang Huizhi called out Jin Feng’s name into the house, but there was no reply—only silence.
She searched each room and found that this place was even cleaner than outside; everything was neatly arranged, not even a trace of Li Xiang left behind!
Jin Feng had run away!
