Lan Qingqing looked at the helpless Zhang Huizhi and nearly burst into laughter. The moment of her turnaround in life had come, as if the tides of fortune had shifted in an instant. There would surely be a day when she would get her revenge.
And that day was now!
Lan Qingqing casually pulled over a chair and leaned back, watching Zhang Huizhi struggle in vain. Zhang Huizhi's body was far too weak to eat; she could only rely on intravenous fluids to sustain her basic life functions. However, any other movement was beyond her capabilities. Every time she tried to move, nausea overwhelmed her, and dizziness set in; when she vomited, it was blood—a truly ghastly sight.
Zhang Huizhi attempted to get out of bed, but even that basic action was a challenge. She felt utterly powerless, the world spinning around her.
Lan Qingqing peeled an orange for herself, munching on it while saying, "Your son is currently tied up by Zong Shi Yan Tuan and can't get out. Mo Kai Liang is also unavailable. So right now, I'm the only one who can keep you company. Just endure it. And don’t even think about pressing the call button; I won’t give you the chance."
She tossed the orange peel onto Zhang Huizhi's head. "You bullied me so badly before; I have to get my revenge, don’t you think?"
Meanwhile, at the water park, Hou Yi brought Wu Youyou along. As they floated on a boat, Wu Youyou looked at him with disappointment. "You invited me out just to do this? This doesn’t seem like something someone who sends black roses would do."
Wu Youyou bluntly stated, "Are you trying to help Lan Qingqing get back at me? I remember you were interested in her before."
Hou Yi observed Wu Youyou’s clever expression and countered, "What if I’ve changed my mind and am now infatuated with you instead? What if I’ve dumped Lan Qingqing?"
Wu Youyou leaned in closer to him. "Do you know why I agreed to go on a date with you? I wanted to see what kind of man would fall for someone like Lan Qingqing and even help her confront me."
She pointed out, "Your little games with Lan Qingqing are too obvious; it’s clear you’re targeting me."
Hou Yi’s expression turned serious. "What if I said I wanted to date you and that it had nothing to do with Lan Qingqing?"
Wu Youyou laughed. "Unless you jump into the water right now, I’ll hardly believe you."
With a playful smile on his face, Hou Yi was not one to follow the usual script. After Wu Youyou made her request, he suddenly grabbed her arm and pulled her into the water.
Neither of them was wearing life jackets, and Hou Yi couldn’t swim.
He didn’t struggle as he sank beneath the surface, leaving Wu Youyou stunned.
It was Wu Youyou’s first encounter with such absurdity and her first experience in this situation.
As she tried to pull Hou Yi back up, she managed to bring him to the surface. They both climbed back onto the small boat, which drifted in the river as terrified onlookers screamed in shock.
Soaked from head to toe, Wu Youyou shouted angrily, "You idiot! You can’t swim and you didn’t wear a life jacket! Aren’t you afraid that I can’t swim either?"
Hou Yi coughed a few times, completely soaked by the river water. His wet clothes clung to his muscular frame, catching Wu Youyou's eye.
With a casual smile, Hou Yi said, "Then let’s die together. I fear nothing, except death itself."
Wu Youyou watched as Hou Yi removed his shirt and wrung it out. It was the first time she had heard someone say they were afraid of everything but death. She thought he must be seriously ill, perhaps even mentally unstable.
"I want to go home!" Wu Youyou shouted. "My clothes are soaked! What kind of date is this?"
Hou Yi pointed toward the direction above them and suggested, "I’ll take you by boat; it’s a shortcut. Since we’re here, let’s have some fun before we leave."
Wu Youyou looked up at the high platform above them—it was the bungee jumping site. To choose bungee jumping as a date activity was something only Hou Yi could pull off!
She was at a loss for words because of him and ended up laughing out loud. "I swear, are you trying to take my life? Why don’t we just find an open space and settle this with a fight? You can take your anger out for Lan Qingqing, and at least that would make sense!"
As their small boat reached the shore, Hou Yi grabbed Wu Youyou by the arm and pushed her onto the land.
"You agreed to go on this date because you’re curious about me, right?" he said. "This is my first time bungee jumping, and I want to share this wonderful experience with you."
Wu Youyou frowned. "You really are insane! There’s something wrong with your mind!"
They climbed onto the bungee platform and put on their gear. Hou Yi took the lead as the first jumper while Wu Youyou followed behind.
Standing at the edge of the platform, Hou Yi looked down at the water below—at least the height of a building. If that water turned into solid ground, he would surely be shattered upon impact. He felt an inexplicable pull from beneath the surface, just like earlier when he had dragged Wu Youyou into the water; in that moment of sinking, he had thought about just continuing to descend, being submerged and taken away by the water along with his life and soul. After all, his life had always been about living toward death.
At that moment, he wished that the water below was solid concrete so he could free himself from the safety harness and fall to his demise.
