The Female Secretary nodded and said, "Shall we head to the conference room? The documents are all prepared there."
Tong Le followed the Female Secretary into a small meeting room. The conference table was covered with various documents that Zong Zeyu had asked the Female Secretary to prepare in advance.
The Female Secretary pulled out a chair, and Tong Le politely took a seat. One by one, the Female Secretary laid out the documents in front of Tong Le, explaining, "This document is for the return of your property worth two hundred million yuan from Xiao Zong Zong. You just need to sign here. This document pertains to an overseas investment project you previously put on hold; each installment is twenty million yuan. Once you sign, Overseas Bank will transfer the funds to you. You will need to cooperate with tax payments, and then this money will be available in your account. This last document is regarding the property you entrusted to a third party for holding; once you sign, the property transfer process will begin, and it should be back under your name within three working days."
Pointing to the last document among the four, the Female Secretary continued, "This document is for the acquisition of Tongshan Real Estate by Zong Shi Yan Tuan. If you sign here, you will repurchase Tongshan Real Estate, making it solely your asset."
Tong Le looked at the table full of documents. They were just sheets of paper filled with black and white text—emotionless pieces of paper that somehow encapsulated her entire life. They detailed her years of struggle and helplessness, her pain and torment spent crawling in darkness for fame and fortune, for love and hate. These seemingly insignificant four documents succinctly summarized her desolate seven years.
The secretary handed her a pen for signing. Tong Le silently stared at the four documents on the table. For some reason, she couldn't feel happy; a wave of bitterness washed over her instead. She should have been celebrating her victory; she should have felt joy for herself, yet she couldn't muster any enthusiasm.
These seven years had been filled with sorrow—wrong people, wrong sacrifices—and everything she had fought so hard to protect. A terrible man and a broken relationship had almost cost her life. And now, these four documents before her encompassed her entire seven years.
She didn't know whether to cry or laugh. It was Zong Zeyu who had pulled her out of the mire—first in the university library and then again after peeling away layers of her marriage.
Ke Wenjie had taken everything from her, while Zong Zeyu returned it all intact.
It was only when the Female Secretary handed her a tissue that Tong Le realized tears had been streaming down her face, emotions flooding over her.
Standing up, Tong Le turned and left the conference room.
The Female Secretary called after her, holding a pen in one hand and tissues in the other, "Miss Tong! You haven't signed yet!"
Tong Le made her way to where Zong Zeyu was in a larger conference room. With red eyes and a runny nose, she stood outside the glass door, silently watching him continue his meeting.
In his work environment, Zong Zeyu was serious, aloof, and unapproachable. She often wondered what merit she possessed that allowed someone so brilliant to be by her side when he shone so brightly.
At that moment, Zong Zeyu noticed Tong Le waiting outside the door.
He stood up and paused the meeting before stepping out into the hallway where he spotted Tong Le standing conspicuously by the glass wall.
She was startled and quickly pushed Zong Zeyu's arm. "What are you doing out here? Hurry back to the meeting! So many people are waiting for you!"
Zong Zeyu's gaze lingered on Tong Le's tear-streaked face; no matter how tricky or busy the matters at hand were, they paled in comparison to the sight of her falling tears. He reached out to wipe away the tears at the corner of her eye. "Who made you upset?"
Tong Le looked toward the glass-walled conference room, where everyone inside was casting curious glances in their direction. "I'm fine! You should go in; didn't you say there are leaders waiting inside?"
Zong Zeyu had no intention of leaving. The meeting was already winding down. "Did someone bully you?"
Tong Le shook her head. "No, I just came to see you."
He smiled slightly. "I like that reason."
"Please, go in! We can talk after your meeting," she urged.
Zong Zeyu nodded, but just as he was about to return to the conference room, he took her hand and pulled her into the meeting with him. Their fingers intertwined tightly, and Tong Le couldn't pull away.
Inside the conference room, various leaders were present, including Dao Wen and Zong Jin. Standing under their focused gazes, Zong Zeyu calmly introduced her. "Let me introduce my fiancée, Tong Le."
A round of welcoming applause erupted in the room, and Tong Le's face turned crimson with embarrassment.
