Tong Le suddenly became nervous. "Who is it? Who's chasing you? I've known you for so long, how come I didn't know about this? Have I met her? Which girl is it?"
Zong Zeyu turned his head and replied, "You! Weren't you just downstairs in the building, confessing to me?"
Tong Le blinked rapidly, her face flushing again, and she realized he wasn't wrong.
Meanwhile, at Lan Qingqing's home, she had just returned to find Mo Kai Liang cooking in the kitchen.
There were several shopping bags piled up at the entrance, and one bright orange bag caught her eye, causing her to scream. "Hermès! Oh my gosh!"
Lan Qingqing opened the packaging to reveal a basket bag. Although it wasn't as expensive as the one Hou Yi had given her, she loved it just the same!
Holding the bag, she admired herself in the mirror for a moment before rushing into the kitchen. The aroma wafting from the kitchen was delightful; Mo Kai Liang was wearing an apron and cooking all of Lan Qingqing's favorite dishes.
When he turned to look at her as she entered, seeing her face made him happy. No matter what he had gone through that past week, Lan Qingqing's presence could sweep away all his worries.
"You're back!" he said with a smile. "I bought that bag especially for you. All those bags at the door are for you. When I checked the fridge earlier, I noticed you've been eating takeout while I was gone. The milk has even expired! From now on, I'll try not to eat out and cook more at home; it's better for your health."
He handed her some freshly washed cherries. "Here, have these to tide you over."
Lan Qingqing noticed something unusual on Mo Kai Liang's face—a scar on his forehead that hadn't healed yet, looking quite alarming with dark scabs still clinging to it.
"Where have you been this week? How did you get hurt? What’s in those bags at the door?" she asked with concern.
Mo Kai Liang chuckled sheepishly. "You'll find out if you take a look. I promised you I'd make things better."
With a hint of skepticism, Lan Qingqing walked back to the entrance and rummaged through the other bags. Among them were two large black canvas travel bags that looked old and dirty; she hadn't even considered opening them.
When she unzipped one of them, she was shocked to find stacks of cash inside! So much money! She had never seen this much cash in her life!
Lan Qingqing gasped, her eyes wide as she stared at the piles of money on the floor.
At that moment, Mo Kai Liang approached her from behind in the kitchen and said, "This is three million yuan. I earned it. I told you I'd make your life better, Lan Qingqing. I'm only going to get richer from now on; I'll make sure you live like a wealthy lady."
Suddenly, Lan Qingqing turned around and threw herself into Mo Kai Liang's arms.
She didn't care where all this money came from; instead, she admired her own judgment for taking in this devoted man who now returned with three million as a reward! It was worth it!
Holding onto Mo Kai Liang tightly, he felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. His mind was racing, his limbs felt stiff; his body was reacting strongly with hormones, and he was on the verge of losing control—he felt like he might go crazy!
Lan Qingqing embraced Mo Kai Liang, wrapping her arms around his neck as she whispered softly, "Why are you so good to me? You are the best to me. Promise me, you'll always be like this for the rest of your life, okay?"
Mo Kai Liang nodded foolishly, thinking that as long as he could be in Lan Qingqing's gentle embrace for this lifetime, it would all be worth it!
Lan Qingqing took the initiative to kiss Mo Kai Liang's cheek, their soft lips intertwining as they melted into each other and made their way to the bedroom.
After a moment of tenderness, Mo Kai Liang was still concerned about making sure Lan Qingqing was well-fed. He got dressed and headed to the kitchen to prepare more food for her.
Meanwhile, Lan Qingqing lazily nestled in the blankets, reaching for the phone that Mo Kai Liang had left on the bedside table. Just then, a message came through for him.
Curious, she opened WeChat and saw a message that read: "You’ve driven Old Wu’s family to desperation! Mo Kai Liang! You really deserve to die! You've been in the city for so long, and all you've learned is how to exploit your own people! Old Wu’s family just received their relocation compensation, and you tricked him into going to the casino! Now that money is gone, and Old Wu has been taken by those loan sharks! He’s been missing for two days! Old Wu's wife and children are searching everywhere for him, and now Old Wu and Tong Le are threatening to hang themselves! They have nowhere to live! Mo Kai Liang! You really deserve to die!"
Lan Qingqing had a rough idea of what had happened. The three hundred thousand Mo Kai Liang brought back must have come from the casino; perhaps he even earned it by introducing his fellow villagers to gambling.
She was somewhat surprised that this usually timid Mo Kai Liang could be so bold. Indeed, a dog that bites doesn’t bark; someone like Mo Kai Liang, who usually kept quiet, could resort to the most ruthless methods!
After reading the message, Lan Qingqing felt no sympathy for Old Wu's family; instead, she thought they deserved it!
Ordinary people were like ants; they should serve those at the top. This world was a massive pyramid, and she was destined to stand at its peak, looking down upon the masses of ants below!
