Tong Le's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Ah! I talked to Wu Youyou for a long time last night, and she agreed to take care of her injuries while the police investigate who drugged her."
She turned and walked towards the bathroom, while Zong Zeyu seemed lost in thought, a smile on his face as he followed her, as if his soul had been taken away.
Standing in front of the sink, Tong Le was about to spit when she noticed Zong Zeyu behind her, looking down at the back of her head with a doting expression. She didn't find it romantic at all; instead, it made the back of her head tingle.
Turning around, she asked, "What are you doing? Are you trying to eat my brain?"
Zong Zeyu snapped back to reality and awkwardly replied, "I was just going to wash up."
An hour later, Tong Le and Zong Zeyu drove out towards the Zong Group. Half an hour earlier, Zong Jin had gone to the company alone.
As they traveled, the driver was at the wheel while Zong Zeyu and Tong Le sat in the business class seats. Zong Zeyu curiously asked, "What did you talk about with Wu Youyou last night?"
Tong Le blinked, feeling a bit uneasy. "Well, Wu Youyou seems to be in a better state, but I can't shake the feeling that it's because Zong Jin promised her something."
Zong Zeyu replied, "Promised her something? She has everything she needs in the Zong Family; what more could she want?"
Tong Le gazed intently at Zong Zeyu. "Isn't that a bit of a leading question? If it’s about Zong Jin..."
Zong Zeyu's expression darkened. "You're overthinking it. While I sympathize with her situation now, if she tries to use this to threaten Zong Jin, I won't stand for it."
Tong Le sighed. "Whether you agree or not doesn't matter; this isn't something you can control. It depends on what Zong Jin wants."
She felt somewhat relieved that Wu Youyou hadn’t completely fallen for Zong Jin yet. If he decided to end things with her before that happened, Wu Youyou wouldn’t be too hurt.
Upon arriving at the Zong Group, they found that Zong Jin was not in his office. The Distillery Investment Agreement lay on his desk. Zong Zeyu took Tong Le into Zong Jin's office and handed her one copy of the contract.
Just then, the office door burst open as Wu Youyou stormed in, searching for Zong Jin. "Where is he? Where is he? What kind of coward is he?"
Tong Le and Zong Zeyu froze momentarily as Wu Youyou turned to Tong Le and exclaimed, "What is wrong with Zong Jin? He sent me a message early this morning saying our relationship will only remain as business partners. What is he playing at? Just because he says he likes me one moment and then doesn’t the next? Does he think I’m someone who can be summoned and dismissed at will? Are all men this foolish now?"
Wu Youyou was furious; nothing could stop her now. "Where is he? Terminate our partnership right now! What Distillery? What future? He can forget it! I won’t serve him anymore!"
Tong Le hurriedly stepped forward. "Please don’t be angry; sit down first. There must be some misunderstanding. When Zong Jin comes back, let him explain himself. He must have been confused when he sent you that message."
Before she could finish her sentence, Zong Jin entered the room.
His expression was emotionless as he saw Wu Youyou but remained unchanged.
Having just heard Wu Youyou's accusations, he offered no explanation and calmly said, "I didn’t mean to toy with your feelings; I simply don’t deserve someone like you. It’s better to end this relationship before you develop feelings for me. Our business partnership can continue because the Distillery project is already underway; terminating it now isn’t practical, especially since Tong Le needs this project."
Zong Jin walked straight into his office and sat down at his desk. He turned to Tong Le and said, "If there are no issues with the contract, please sign it so we can proceed with funding."
At that moment, Tong Le hesitated to sign. She glanced at Zong Jin and then at Wu Youyou, who was sitting sideways on the sofa with her legs crossed, clearly sulking with her back turned towards him.
Zong Zeyu momentarily broke down and whispered to Zong Jin, "Are you out of your mind? Apologize quickly!"
Zong Jin automatically dismissed Zong Zeyu's advice.
At that moment, Wen suddenly stood up. Maintaining an air of grace, she turned to Zong Jin and said, "Zong Jin, just do as you feel. As for the Distillery, consider it as if I never participated; I will withdraw my shares and transfer them to you without compensation. And about what you said regarding ending our relationship—it's quite amusing. There was never a relationship to begin with, so how can there be anything to terminate?"
With that, Wen walked out of the office without looking back. She entered in a flurry and left with poise, leaving no room for hesitation.
The office fell into a heavy silence; Tong Le and Zong Zeyu dared not speak, feeling as if they had just witnessed a grand performance—arriving in haste and departing just as quickly.
Inside the office, Zong Jin seemed lost in thought. He stared in the direction Wen had gone, his expression blank. The words he had spoken were not his true feelings, but for Wu Youyou, he felt he had no choice but to act this way.
Tong Le didn’t offer any comforting words; she simply asked Zong Jin, "Are you really not going to regret this?"
