Hou Yi had never felt that being pursued by someone could be such a terrifying experience. Of course, it wasn't exactly pursuit; it was more like an overt pressure to marry. 0

At that moment, he was sitting in a bar with his friend Winston, when a phone call from Wu Youyou startled him so much that he shattered the glass in his hand. The sound of the glass hitting the floor made his heart race. 0

Winston paused for a moment, surprised to see his usually composed friend so flustered. Curiosity piqued, he leaned closer, pressing his ear against Hou Yi's phone to eavesdrop. 0

Hou Yi stood up, trying to distance himself from Winston as he spoke into the phone. "I haven't harmed you in any way, so why are you suddenly insisting that I marry you?" 0

On the other end of the line, Wu Youyou was sobbing uncontrollably. She kept saying she couldn't go on living and threatened to take her own life, crying until she could barely catch her breath. 0

Hou Yi found women's tears particularly exasperating, especially when they were as desperate as Wu Youyou's. He wanted to explode in anger but remembered his promise to Tong Le and forced himself to hold back. 0

He didn't feel any obligation towards Wu Youyou; after all, she had gone to the nightclub because of him, so he felt somewhat responsible. As her cries echoed in his ears, he thought of a way to silence her. "Fine! I'll marry you! Is that enough for you to stop this nonsense? Can you just live your life without threatening to die?" 0

Wu Youyou quieted down, perhaps taking Hou Yi's words seriously, but he had only said it offhandedly. 0

After hanging up, Hou Yi tossed his phone aside and began to lose his mind. "What a crazy situation! I shouldn't have played this game with Lan Qingqing! Just a few black roses and now I'm stuck with this mess. Do I really look like someone who wants to get married?" 0

He grabbed his glass and downed half of its contents but still felt unsatisfied. He certainly had no intention of marrying Wu Youyou; he was just tired of her dramatic antics. 0

Winston refilled Hou Yi's glass with a grin. "Every day they chase after you, trying to get you to marry them—aren't they all in it together? So why does this one have you on the ropes? Have you met your match or found true love?" 0

Hou Yi scoffed. "True love my foot! It's more like I've run into a creditor!" 0

Winston didn't understand. "Then why not just clarify things with her?" 0

Hou Yi looked troubled. "I have my reasons—I'm doing this for another woman." 0

He pondered for a moment, his gaze filled with melancholy. "What do you think marriage is for? Isn't it just about fulfilling certain needs? I buy women bags and flowers, and they think I truly love them. Isn't that strange? Buying gifts has no real connection to love or marriage—are women really that foolish?" 0

Winston was taken aback by this perspective. He wanted to argue but found some truth in it; yet he couldn't articulate what that truth was. 0

Winston countered, "But haven't you ever met a woman who made you genuinely like her? Someone who isn't about gifts or fulfilling needs?" 0

In an instant, Hou Yi's mind conjured up Tong Le's face—slightly silly yet adorably proud. He couldn't quite tell if it was love; he was certainly captivated by her but unsure how long that feeling would last. 0

"What exactly is love?" Hou Yi asked. 0

Winston finished his drink and stared at the empty glass, where two ice cubes clinked together with a crisp sound. "Maybe it's that feeling of being unable to control your emotions, where your words don't reflect your true feelings. It might start from logical reactions; if you lose that initial spark but still find yourself emotionally affected by their every word and action—that's what I think love is." 0

Hou Yi smiled knowingly. "So you've met such a woman?" 0

Winston shook his head. "No, I guess not." 0

Hou Yi downed the drink in his cup. "I have." 0

Winston raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Dude, are you drunk?" 0

Hou Yi chuckled, pouring himself another drink while letting out a sigh. "I wish I were. This feeling of being manipulated emotionally is really unpleasant. There's nothing I can do about it; I just can't control myself." 0

Winston was intrigued. "Who is she? Bring her out so we can meet! She must be stunning! Any woman you take a liking to must be something special." 0

Hou Yi sighed. "You might be disappointed. She's a divorced woman and quite scatterbrained. As for her looks, she's pretty enough, but not exceptionally so. I haven't seen her figure, but I imagine it would be nice to hold her." 0

He couldn't help but smile at the thought. "She's really cute when she curses; I like that about her." 0

At that moment, Hou Yi's phone buzzed with a WeChat message. Coincidentally, it was from Tong Le. 0
