Zong Caishan withdrew his gaze and shot a glare at Li Feng, who instinctively tensed up. Was his brother dissatisfied?
Zong Caishan picked up his glass, took a sip, and smiled with satisfaction. "With someone like her, why didn't you bring her out sooner? I see you were trying to keep her to yourself!"
Li Feng quickly replied, "Brother! You've misunderstood me! This is my first time meeting her!" He darted his eyes mischievously and suggested, "How about I get her drunk tonight and deliver her to you?"
Zong Caishan's eyes sparkled with interest. "At least you know what to do!"
Li Feng turned towards Tong Le and Jin Zi Meng, deliberately ordering some fine wine. He poured a drink for Tong Le.
Jin Zi Meng reached out to stop Tong Le from drinking, but Li Feng shot him a fierce look. "What’s wrong with you today? You brought your friend here but won’t let her drink? Just staring at each other? Don’t you know basic social skills? With your attitude, how are you ever going to meet the big bosses and investors in this industry?"
Jin Zi Meng withdrew his hand in defeat.
Tong Le took the initiative to raise her glass. "Li Producer, I don’t have a good tolerance for alcohol, so I’ll drink a little less. But I heard from my sister that you plan to introduce the investors' boss to her tonight. I wonder if I have the honor of raising a toast to him? I’ve just entered this circle not long ago and am really eager to improve and seize more opportunities."
Li Feng's eyes lit up; he didn’t even need to use any tricks on her—she was already taking the bait! He liked this kind of girl: smart, attractive, emotionally intelligent, and eager to climb the social ladder. After all, one had to put in effort that ordinary people couldn’t if they wanted to succeed. It saved him the trouble of having to force drinks down her throat; he found that annoying!
He quickly filled Tong Le's glass and invited her, "Come on, let me introduce you to Zong Boss! You've heard of him, right? He’s one of the top figures in our circle! If you can land a role in a movie he invests in, your future is set!"
Tong Le suppressed a laugh; if it weren’t for her mission, she would have laughed out loud at him!
When she met Zong Caishan, it was clear that he bore no trace of the admirable traditions associated with the Zong Family. He was greasy and arrogant, with an insatiable desire lurking behind his eyes that seemed ready to burst through his beer belly.
Tong Le fought back her disgust as Zong Caishan made several attempts to take advantage of her. Fortunately, she was skilled at navigating such situations—thanks to lessons learned from Dao Wen.
Dao Wen was an experienced nightlife veteran who had encountered all kinds of men and strategies. She had learned how to deal with lecherous old men like Zong Caishan.
Tong Le wasn’t going to be passive. Unlike other naive girls who might be intimidated by an older man like Zong Caishan due to his social status and demeanor—leading them to answer whatever he asked without thinking—she took charge of the conversation by asking him question after question while sprinkling in compliments to satisfy his ego.
She deliberately said, "Zong Boss, do you think I need any cosmetic enhancements? With such high standards for being on camera, I truly wish I could achieve perfection."
Zong Caishan was caught off guard by Tong Le's topic shift. Perhaps it was the alcohol or his momentary lapse in guard due to their enjoyable conversation; he replied earnestly, "To be honest, your face is naturally suited for the screen! You don’t need any surgery! But if you're really interested in getting something done, I can recommend someone. She's an old friend of mine; we’ve done plenty of business together. If you mention my name when you go see her, she won’t charge you!"
Zong Caishan flaunted his wealth and connections eagerly seeking Tong Le's approval.
Tong Le sensed something fishy and probed further, "Who is this friend of yours?"
Zong Caishan replied, "Have you heard of Hua Rongxiao? Hua Yan Aesthetic Surgery! The largest cosmetic surgery institution; she's a very good partner of mine! If you want, I can call her right now!"
Upon hearing Hua Rongxiao's name, Tong Le immediately pieced everything together. Her suspicions about Li Feng's sudden closeness with Zong Caishan were not unfounded; she had felt there was a connection with Ke Wenjie. However, Ke Wenjie had no ties with someone like Zong Caishan.
Now it seemed there was indeed a connection because Zong Caishan and Hua Rongxiao were good friends—and it was Hua Rongxiao who had been backing Ke Wenjie all along as the villain behind the scenes.
Having figured this out, Tong Le no longer felt the need to pretend.
Zong Caishan took out his phone, ready to call Hua Rongxiao, when Tong Le deliberately interjected, "Zong Boss, what about your earlier promise? You said you would let my friend play the female lead. Does that still count?"
Zong Caishan paused for a moment and then scoffed, "With her skills? How could she possibly be the female lead? She wouldn't even qualify for the third female role! She's as clueless as a pig. If she had even half of your smarts, I might consider it!"
Upon hearing this, Tong Le immediately stood up, her smile vanishing in an instant. If everything he said was just a lie, then what was the point of even having a drink with him?
She turned to Jin Zi Meng and gestured to leave. "I'm done here; I won't waste my time with these old men. It's just not worth it."
