Zong Caishan was deep in thought about how to undermine Jin Zi Meng and the Zong Family's influence. He realized that a direct confrontation would be futile; with his current strength, taking on the Zong Family would be like trying to strike a stone with an egg.
Instead, he began to devise some underhanded tactics and gestured to Li Feng. Li Feng immediately leaned in close to Zong Caishan's mouth, listening intently as he whispered his plans. A wicked smile spread across Li Feng's face. "Nice one, brother! When it comes to cunning, you’re second to none!"
Zong Caishan felt a surge of pride. He refused to believe that the Zong Family could remain unshakable forever. After all, when he had separated from the Zong Family, they were already beginning to decline. He had never believed that Cui Zhi and his two lackeys could manage their lives. In reality, they lacked the capability! Yet somehow, through some stroke of luck, they managed to hold on. Later, he reflected that their survival was entirely due to the substantial inheritance left by Zong Zeyu’s father and the hidden assets they kept from him. Otherwise, how could they have persisted for so long? He had underestimated their family's ruthlessness; otherwise, he would never have split from them.
With a cold laugh, Zong Caishan thought about how fortunes change. He refused to believe that the Zong Family's luck could last indefinitely. Now that he had Hua Rongxiao backing him up, it wouldn’t be long before Hua Jie would bring the Zong Family under his control! Sooner or later, he would reclaim his position as the master of the Zong Family!
At the banquet, Tong Le was happily chatting with friends when she noticed Hua Rongxiao approaching her through the crowd. Dressed in a black evening gown, Hua Rongxiao exuded an extraordinary aura. Although she was approaching middle age, her eyes sparkled with vitality sharper than those of the younger crowd.
As Hua Rongxiao reached Tong Le, the guests nearby instinctively stepped aside. Tong Le seized the opportunity and greeted her warmly. "Hua Zong, it's a pleasure to finally meet you."
Hua Rongxiao spoke with layered meaning, having heard about the engagement between the second son of the Zong Family and Miss Tong. The gossip in their circle suggested that Miss Tong was beautiful and kind-hearted; although she had been married before, she and the second young master of the Zong Family were childhood sweethearts destined for each other.
Tong Le sensed the awkwardness in Hua Rongxiao’s words—bringing up someone’s second marriage right off the bat was quite a pointed move. Not one to back down easily, Tong Le responded smoothly. "Well, every encounter is a matter of fate. I feel a certain kinship with Hua Zong; both of us have experienced marriage and understand that second marriages require careful consideration. Fate is indeed mysterious; after all this time, it seems old acquaintances are often more compatible."
Tong Le deliberately emphasized Hua Rongxiao’s name, fully aware that she would understand her implications. Whether or not Hua Rongxiao would read too much into it depended on her own thoughts; for Tong Le, it was just casual banter.
Hua Rongxiao raised an eyebrow slightly; while the pleasantries seemed innocuous at first glance, upon deeper reflection, they were fraught with implications. Though they were not well acquainted, their conversation felt unusually significant.
One could choose not to overthink things; however, if one did overthink them, it might reveal insecurity instead.
Hua Rongxiao began to recognize Tong Le’s formidable nature—a seemingly innocent girl who was anything but simple-minded. In this light, Ke Jie had clearly underestimated her.
Shifting topics, Hua Rongxiao said casually, "By the way, I heard that Miss Tong is planning to donate five hundred thousand to the foundation?"
Tong Le smiled lightly; news traveled fast indeed. "Yes, I do intend to make that donation. However, my funds are currently tied up overseas and haven’t returned yet; I just checked on their status recently. It looks like I’ll have to wait a bit longer before making that donation."
Hua Rongxiao nodded thoughtfully; now she understood.
As she prepared to leave, she politely said to Tong Le, "Excuse me for now; I have other friends to attend to. Enjoy your meal and conversation."
After Hua Rongxiao departed, Dao Wen returned to Tong Le's side. His gaze followed Hua Rongxiao as he murmured softly, "That Hua Rongxiao has quite an impressive presence; her looks are hard to judge—she’s striking but also has an air about her."
Dao Wen pondered for a moment before adding thoughtfully, "She has a face that seems destined for misfortune."
Tong Le was very pleased with these three words; it was truly wonderful! Let's quickly deal with Ke Jie!
Dao Wen smiled and said, "You didn't let anything slip, did you? Watching from the side, it felt like you two were about to fight."
Tong Le shook his head. "No, that's not going to happen. But I am a hundred percent sure that Hua Rongxiao and Ke Jie share a special bond. Those two are probably inseparable every day."
Dao Wen asked, "How did you figure that out?"
Tong Le gestured, "The scent of perfume. Hua Rongxiao has two distinct fragrances on her—one is strong and is her signature scent, while the other is a cool aroma that subtly mingles beneath the stronger scent. I'm very familiar with that smell; it's Ke Jie's favorite perfume. She sprays it on at least twice every day before work."
Dao Wen chuckled, "You've got a dog's nose."
Tong Le recalled, "Has Tian Ling sent any messages in the group? I asked her to help me with some things at home these past few days and mentioned meeting up. Let's buy her some food later and deliver it to her place."
Dao Wen's expression wasn't very optimistic. "You asked Tian Ling to investigate the whereabouts of Jin Feng Mobile? It's been so long, and even the police haven't found any leads. Asking Tian Ling to look into it is quite unfair to her."
