Mo Kai Liang turned off the stove and removed his apron. "What can't be said over the phone? Aren't you supposed to collect debts with Xiao Feng today? Have you run into trouble?"
The young man on the other end replied, "Brother, should I come over to your place? I'm nearby, but this really can't be discussed over the phone."
Mo Kai Liang acknowledged him, and ten minutes later, Zheng Shucai, who had a somewhat dull expression, appeared at his doorstep. Zheng Shucai was Mo Kai Liang's fellow townsman. Ever since Mo Kai Liang started his small lending company, he had brought Zheng Shucai on board to help with the work.
Zheng Shucai wasn't very bright and didn't think too much while working. Whatever Mo Kai Liang asked him to do, he would follow through without question, which saved Mo Kai Liang a lot of trouble. He didn't ponder whether Mo Kai Liang's money-making methods were clean; as long as there was money to be made, he was all in.
Zheng Shucai quickly closed the door, changed into slippers, and followed Mo Kai Liang. Mo Kai Liang went to the bathroom, grabbed some clothes that were half-washed, and continued scrubbing them with soap.
Zheng Shucai stood there in shock; in Mo Kai Liang's hands were a pair of women's underwear. These were Lan Qingqing's intimate garments, which he had always washed by hand.
"Speak up," Mo Kai Liang said. "What’s so important that it has to be discussed face-to-face?"
Zheng Shucai stood there dumbfounded but finally found the courage to speak. "Brother, this morning during a violent debt collection, we... we killed someone."
Mo Kai Liang's arm stiffened as he turned his head to confirm that Zheng Shucai wasn't joking. He grabbed the soapy underwear from the sink and swung it hard at Zheng Shucai's head. "Why didn't you say something sooner! Someone is dead and you're here chatting with me! Hurry up! We need to deal with this!"
Zheng Shucai quickly stepped aside and followed Mo Kai Liang. "Brother, you don't need to worry too much. The person we killed was an orphan; no one will know he's gone. Besides, we can’t be blamed for this—he borrowed money for gambling and refused to pay us back while arrogantly taunting us."
As Mo Kai Liang changed clothes, he fumed, "Didn’t I tell you a few days ago to be careful? Don't stir up trouble! The authorities are cracking down on illegal gambling and underground casinos right now, and you guys go right into the line of fire!"
Zheng Shucai followed Mo Kai Liang out of the house, scratching his head. "You really don’t need to worry too much; that orphan has no family. If he dies and starts to smell, no one will care."
Mo Kai Liang turned around angrily. "We still need to get rid of the body quickly! It’s bad enough that someone died in the city; it's a small matter that someone is dead, but how do we handle the body? There are cameras everywhere! Where am I supposed to bury him? How many times have I said that if someone has to die, it should be in a remote area? Now you've caused this mess for the company—how am I supposed to clean it up?"
As they entered the elevator, Zheng Shucai secretly handed Mo Kai Liang a business card and whispered, "Brother, this person can help us clean up. When I was collecting debts at an underground casino before, I met a man in a suit who realized what I was doing and gave me this card. He told me they could help us deal with it and would even pay us."
Mo Kai Liang was perplexed as they exited the elevator and got into the car. He carefully examined the business card.
Zheng Shucai continued, "Brother, this guy said he could work with us. If someone can't pay their gambling debts—even if they've lost everything—they can sell their debtors to him. They take both living and dead people."
Mo Kai Liang gasped in shock as he understood what Zheng Shucai meant.
Zheng Shucai added, "The offer from their side is particularly high."
