Tong Le accompanied Zong Zeyu, where she met the partner he mentioned and engaged in pleasant conversation. Coincidentally, the two private rooms next door belonged to Hua Rongxiao, who had chosen this hotel to host her guests.
On her way to the restroom alone, Tong Le encountered Hua Rongxiao. Their eyes met, and though both were aware of each other's presence, neither revealed their true feelings. Tong Le smiled in response, while Hua Rongxiao wore a mask of enthusiastic politeness.
Standing face to face in the corridor, Hua Rongxiao was dressed in a black knee-length gown, while Tong Le wore a long dress of a different hue. The contrast created an undeniable tension between them.
Hua Rongxiao spoke first, "Miss Tong, what a coincidence to run into you here! I was just thinking about finding some time to meet with you."
Tong Le feigned surprise. "It is indeed a coincidence to see you here, Mr. Hua. I thought you were busy with matters concerning Wan Jia. There are rumors outside that you are quite the career woman, and it seems they are true."
Tong Le subtly criticized Hua Rongxiao for celebrating rather than attending to her late husband's affairs, suggesting that such behavior was rather peculiar.
Hua Rongxiao understood the underlying message in Tong Le's words but remained unfazed. Today, she had deliberately booked this hotel because she knew there was a business banquet taking place. Since she lacked the qualifications to attend, she reserved the two adjacent private rooms to celebrate and witness Zong Zeyu and Tong Le's discomfort.
With a sarcastic tone, Hua Rongxiao continued, "By the way, I heard that you helped find lawyer Lan Qingqing and even managed to get her released? Miss Tong, she did kill someone after all, and she was your ex-husband's mistress. Are you really that magnanimous? Helping your ex-husband's mistress out of trouble?"
Suddenly, Tong Le burst into laughter. "Mr. Hua, if you're saying that Lan Qingqing killed Mr. Wan, you might as well say it was Ke Wenjie who did it! Ke Wenjie had more motive than Lan Qingqing ever did; wouldn't you agree?"
Tong Le covered her mouth as she laughed freely.
Hua Rongxiao felt her face flush with embarrassment; she hadn't expected Tong Le to directly mention Ke Wenjie's name, which put her in an awkward position.
Irritated, Hua Rongxiao asked, "What do you mean by that, Tong Le?"
Stepping closer to Hua Rongxiao, Tong Le replied, "And what do you mean by questioning me about helping a mistress? It seems you know more about my relationship with Ke Wenjie than I anticipated."
Hua Rongxiao frowned slightly; she hadn’t realized that her own words had inadvertently revealed her knowledge of the complicated triangle between Tong Le and Lan Qingqing. This implied that she also had deep insights into Ke Wenjie.
Those hidden connections were laid bare through their exchange.
Hua Rongxiao attempted to regain control of the conversation. "I advise you not to meddle in matters that don't concern you. The fact remains that Lan Qingqing murdered my husband; no matter how sharp-tongued your lawyer is, it won't change anything."
Tong Le refused to be drawn into Hua Rongxiao's narrative or allow her to gain any leverage over her. She deliberately shifted the topic with veiled words: "Mr. Hua, there are many men out there; just be careful not to overlook any."
With that said, Tong Le walked past Hua Rongxiao without looking back.
Hua Rongxiao turned to watch Tong Le's retreating figure in surprise; she had assumed Tong Le was weak and lacked the courage to confront her directly. Yet now it seemed that Tong Le was ready to play her cards openly.
However, she wasn't too angry, because the show was still to come.
