As the evening's farce unfolded, Ke Wenjie found his worldview once again upended by Tong Le. He felt as if he had never truly known her; the Tong Le in his mind was incompetent, weak, and easily manipulated. How was it that since their divorce, she had become unstoppable? It was as if there were two Tong Les, two personalities, two completely different life trajectories.
Ke Wenjie was busy cleaning up the shards of glass on the floor, thinking that Hua Rongxiao would just be angry for a moment. After all, nothing significant had been lost; it was merely a failed rumor that had stirred emotions, nothing too serious. But Hua Rongxiao's reaction exceeded his understanding.
She stood in front of him, questioning how Tong Le could be so naive. Not only did she not doubt Zong Zeyu's loyalty, but she also helped Jin Zi Meng gain popularity? Was she a saint? Or did she have a masochistic tendency? Did she really trust Zong Zeyu so completely? It was laughable; he had rarely seen wealthy bosses who loved only their wives wholeheartedly! Most of them had multiple mistresses and a horde of affairs!
Ke Wenjie dared not speak; after all, he wasn't a wealthy boss himself. The little money he had seemed trivial in front of Hua Rongxiao. She yelled at him, demanding to know why he was silent. "Cat got your tongue? I’m asking you! Why do you go mute whenever Tong Le is mentioned? Do you still love her?"
Ke Wenjie immediately retorted, "I don’t! I just don’t know what to say! How could I know what she’s thinking? I can’t even figure out this whole live-stream clarification thing! In just over an hour, look at her account—she gained tens of thousands of followers!"
Hua Rongxiao grew even angrier. She grabbed anything within reach and hurled it to the ground, specifically targeting fragile items. She even pushed the television down, leaving the house in disarray while Ke Wenjie cowered in a corner, too afraid to make a sound.
He had never witnessed such chaos before; this wasn’t like Hua Rongxiao at all. Though she could be temperamental, this was madness. Ke Wenjie held his breath as she continued to throw things around.
Finally, he couldn’t contain his annoyance any longer. "You can vent all you want, but please don’t hit me!"
No sooner had he spoken than he saw Hua Rongxiao charging at him. A slap landed on his face, making stars dance before his eyes, followed by her long nails digging into his back.
It hurt! It hurt so much! Her nails pierced his skin and scraped down hard, breaking flesh and drawing blood.
Ke Wenjie didn’t dare retaliate; he could only try to block her blows, resulting in countless scratches across his body as if he were a victim of domestic violence.
Blood seeped from his back while Hua Rongxiao went wild with rage. She demanded that he apologize—again and again.
Ke Wenjie didn’t even know what he had done wrong but felt compelled to comply. Living under someone else's roof came with its own set of rules; he had to constantly consider Hua Rongxiao’s feelings. Although life was comfortable and appeared glamorous to outsiders, the torment he faced now made him regret his previous decisions.
He would have been better off continuing life with Tong Le! Even being with Lan Qingqing would have been preferable! With Hua Rongxiao, there was no dignity and no freedom; even sneaking around with another woman came with threats of violence and the constant risk of being beaten by Hua Rongxiao!
He never imagined that Hua Rongxiao could be so extreme and prone to violence!
When Hua Rongxiao finally exhausted herself from her rage, Ke Wenjie held back his frustration and spoke up. "Calm down; you don’t want to affect the baby. Let me get you some hot water."
He went to the kitchen, feeling sharp pains from his wounds.
Hua Rongxiao noticed the bloodstains on Ke Wenjie's pajamas and felt a twinge of regret and pity. She picked up her phone and transferred ten thousand in cash to him.
Her voice trembled as she said, "I’ve sent you some money; let me help you with your wounds later."
Ke Wenjie maintained a blank expression while boiling water, responding absentmindedly as conflicting emotions swirled within him.
He wanted to leave Hua Rongxiao; he didn’t want to stay beside a crazy woman.
At the Zong Family Mansion, the farce came to an end, and Wen Cuizhi had the housekeeper prepare a late-night snack for everyone.
In the dining room, everyone gathered around the table. Tong Le opened his live streaming account and boasted, "I have a hundred thousand followers! I can’t believe it; I’m actually an internet celebrity now!"
Jin Zi Meng shyly added, "I have fifty thousand followers too! Suddenly, several advertisers reached out to me; it completely caught me off guard."
Zong Zeyu was peeling shrimp for Tong Le and probed, "I find it quite strange. When those slanderous photos first appeared online, no one realized the woman was Jin Zi Meng. So here’s my question: before you recognized her as Jin Zi Meng, did you ever doubt that I would cheat on you?"
The atmosphere at the dining table suddenly fell silent. Wen intentionally made a noise, "Oh dear!"
Tong Le turned and glared at Zong Zeyu, "How dare you!"
Zong Zeyu was very pleased with this reaction and quickly replied, "I wouldn’t dare."
Tong Le opened his live streaming account again, counting the amount of gifts he received in the backend, feeling delighted. "Wow, I made so much money tonight! This is my first time experiencing how easy it is to earn money!"
Zong Zeyu reminded him, "Half of that is thanks to me and Zong Jin."
Zong Jin nodded in agreement, "That’s right; we spent half a day researching how to recharge."
After thinking for a moment, Zong Jin said, "Tong Le, shouldn’t you reimburse me?"
Tong Le immediately put away his phone, "No way."
Wen protested, "Why should you? The gifts were meant to boost your ranking! You’re keeping it all for yourself? You’re taking advantage of us!"
Wen turned her attention to Zong Zeyu, "You should pay your wife back! Our money isn’t easy to earn either; your wife is like a Pi Xiu—only taking in and never giving out!"
Zong Zeyu chuckled and said, "Not gonna happen."
He nudged Tong Le with his elbow, beaming with pride. "My wife will sell goods on live streams from now on and support me."
Tong Le nodded vigorously while munching on shrimp, "Support you? I’ll make sure you’re plump and well-fed!"
Wen Cuizhi laughed so hard she could hardly contain herself. "Oh dear! Soon enough, I’ll have grandchildren running around my knees!"
