In the dead of night, at Hua Rongxiao's home, Ke Jie entered with a dark expression on his face.
In the bedroom, upon hearing Ke Jie return, Hua Rongxiao stormed to the entrance, her anger palpable. "Where have you been? I've been trying to call you all day! You didn’t answer my calls or messages! What do you want, Ke Jie? What are you trying to do? I've been dealing with Lan Qingqing all day at home, and here you are, living it up outside!"
Hua Rongxiao shouted at the top of her lungs, not bothering to hide her fierce demeanor, exposing her fierce woman image right in front of Ke Jie. She was certain that Ke Jie wouldn’t dare to leave her or could not leave her, which gave her the audacity to unleash her fury upon him.
She was inherently a person with a terrible temper; she only pretended otherwise for money and resources outside. Ke Jie had long since grown accustomed to this behavior. It was only later that he discovered the darker side of Hua Rongxiao, leading him to contemplate escaping from her grasp.
Ke Jie was also in a terrible mood—more than just bad; it was filled with despair and fear. He had spent the entire day at the logistics company. In fact, he had hardly gone to the company in recent days; the company’s system was so well-established that he rarely needed to be present. He only had to sign documents when his secretary required it; everything else was handled by the employees.
Being the boss was incredibly easy for him. Today, he went to the company to avoid Hua Rongxiao’s foul face; he wanted to find a quiet place where he could be alone. However, even there, he found no peace. The wounds from domestic abuse throbbed painfully on his body, some still scabbing over, causing him both itching and torment.
To alleviate the pain, he walked in circles around the parking lot behind the company, hoping that exercise would distract him. But during this process of pacing, he noticed several suspicious-looking vehicles among the various delivery trucks in the lot.
These trucks were refrigerated vehicles, yet the company hadn’t signed any contracts requiring cold chain transportation recently. Although he didn’t often visit the company, he still kept track of how many orders went out each day and how many vehicles left. Generally speaking, these types of trucks shouldn’t be parked here as they took up valuable space.
He paid close attention to those vehicles; their exteriors were dirty, with mud caked on their tires. Approaching one of them, he kicked a tire lightly; mud fell away revealing that it was still damp—clearly indicating that these trucks had arrived not long ago.
Feeling puzzled, Ke Jie went to retrieve a spare key from the storage room. He wondered if someone had stolen a company vehicle for personal use. Upon opening one of the truck’s back doors, he found it empty but noticed various strange marks inside—especially bloodstains in one corner.
Initially thinking it might have transported pork or beef, he began to feel increasingly uneasy. Suddenly, Ge Miao's face flashed through his mind like a bolt of lightning. He hurriedly exited the truck, trembling with fear.
Deciding to hide at the logistics company for the night to see if anyone used those refrigerated trucks, Ke Jie waited until dark. He chose an excellent hiding spot and kept an eye on those vehicles. Around 8:30 PM, when there were no more employees at the logistics company, a few workers emerged from inside.
Ke Jie recognized two of them; however, he had never seen the other faces before.
