In the basement of the villa, Hua Rongxiao descended the stairs and walked towards the innermost room. This room lacked a door, but at its entrance stood a sturdy iron railing, firmly welded in place.
She approached the railing and peered inside. The room contained a private bathroom and ample space for daily activities, sufficient to accommodate Ke Jie’s needs. However, there were no windows.
This villa in the outskirts belonged to Hua Rongxiao, and this unique room was set up by her years ago. She had confined several disobedient individuals here.
Inside the room, Ke Jie heard noises from outside and approached the door with impatience. "I told you I don't want to eat! Are you trying to feed a dog with that bland soup? When will Hua Rongxiao come to see me? Give me back my phone!"
Upon seeing Hua Rongxiao standing outside the railing, Ke Jie felt a rush of excitement mixed with resentment. The excitement stemmed from finally seeing her again, while the resentment was directed at his loss of freedom. If it weren't for Hua Rongxiao, he wouldn't be imprisoned here or living like this.
At that moment, Ke Jie still maintained some dignity; despite being confined, he managed to shower and change clothes daily, keeping the room relatively clean and tidy.
Hua Rongxiao looked at Ke Jie’s face and felt a twinge of compassion. If it weren’t for her concern that he might escape, she would have wanted to let him out and take care of him in the upstairs room.
Unable to suppress her sympathy, she remarked, "Look at you, you haven't shaved; you look so haggard. Those incompetent servants aren’t giving you any meat to eat? I’ll call them later and make sure they prepare something delicious for you."
Ke Jie rushed to the railing, gripping it tightly. "Let me out! How much longer are you going to keep me here? Are you insane, Hua Rongxiao? Why are you imprisoning me? What do you want from me?"
Taking a deep breath, Hua Rongxiao spoke truthfully. "If you don’t question me, I’m also helpless right now. The logistics company has been investigated, and there are issues with the vehicles in the company’s parking lot. You are the legal representative of the company, and the police are currently looking for you."
Ke Jie went mad with rage. "You’re putting all the blame on me! You’ve turned me into a wanted criminal! Are you out of your mind? That lousy logistics company isn’t even mine! I had no idea about those contraband items! You’re trying to ruin me!"
As he shouted in anger, he pulled at the iron railing with all his might. The railing remained steadfastly unmoving, but his hands turned red from the strain.
Hua Rongxiao noticed his hands; on his right wrist was still the skull bracelet she had given him.
She couldn’t help but smile. "Look at you, cursing me while still thinking about me. Did you miss me so much these past few days that you went crazy? You always say one thing but mean another."
Hua Rongxiao continued explaining, "Don’t worry; I’ve made plans. Tomorrow morning I’ll be going abroad. Once I’m out of the country, I’ll send someone to bring you out. You don’t need to worry about being wanted anymore; your identity as Ke Jie can’t be used again. I’ll help you get a new identity in Hong Kong so that you can leave smoothly. Once we’re abroad, I’ll gradually transfer Wan Jia’s assets overseas—hundreds of billions worth—enough for us to enjoy ourselves for quite some time."
She lowered her gaze and fiddled with her fingernails. "In recent years, I don’t plan on working as hard as before. What’s the point of earning money if there’s no life left to spend it? I want to enjoy myself for a few years."
