Ke Wenjie turned around abruptly, and to his surprise, it was Lan Qingqing. He felt a rush of excitement; he couldn’t believe he would see her in this desolate place!
Ke Wenjie quickly got to his feet and asked cautiously, “Did anyone see you? How did you get in? Ying Rong Xiao didn’t notice you?”
Lan Qingqing was still skeptical. “What’s really going on? And about the Logistics Department—are you truly helping Ying Rong Xiao with those shipments?”
“I didn’t!” Ke Wenjie interrupted urgently. “I’m being framed! Ying Rong Xiao is using me as a scapegoat! I swear I’m innocent! Lan Qingqing, you have to help me! The key to these iron bars is hanging on the wall in the storage room. I overheard the maids talking about it. If you can get the key and let me out, we can escape together!”
Lan Qingqing looked at him with suspicion. Although she didn’t fully trust Ke Wenjie, she believed he had lost his loyalty to Ying Rong Xiao.
She didn’t really want to save him; she just thought that if she was going to die anyway, it would be better to die with some purpose—perhaps taking down Ke Wenjie or Ying Rong Xiao would give her death meaning.
She loathed Ke Wenjie; if it weren’t for him, her life wouldn’t have spiraled into such chaos. If not for his dragging her down, how could she have become a target for Ying Rong Xiao, subjected to such humiliation?
Her life shouldn’t have turned out this way. Even though she had committed heinous acts against Tong Le, she had never harmed Ying Rong Xiao or Ke Wenjie! Yet here she was, suffering because of them.
Lan Qingqing spoke up, “If I let you out now, we won’t get far. This place is remote; there aren’t even any cars around, let alone any means of transportation. Even if I set you free, it won’t change anything. Once Ying Rong Xiao discovers you’re gone, she’ll catch you again in no time.”
Ke Wenjie replied hastily, “The maids won’t be back until late! Ying Rong Xiao sent them away just so she could talk to me! You can wait until she leaves before letting me out! She’s heading to the airport tonight for an early flight tomorrow!”
After thinking for a moment, Lan Qingqing said, “Then stay put for now. I’ll check where the key is. After that, I’ll call a friend to come pick us up once Ying Rong Xiao has left; that would be safer.”
Ke Wenjie nodded in agreement. “It’s settled then.”
As Lan Qingqing stood up to leave, Ke Wenjie quickly asked, “How did you find this place? Who sent you to rescue me?”
Looking at his pitiful state, Lan Qingqing replied, “I followed Ying Rong Xiao here myself. Right now, I only have one thought: to kill Ying Rong Xiao. As long as I can do that, I’m willing to do anything.”
Ke Wenjie’s eyes lit up; at that moment, he felt that he and Lan Qingqing were the best allies!
He hurriedly took off a skull bracelet from his wrist and handed it to her. “Take this! If I don’t manage to escape, give this to the police! Tell them it’s made from Ge Miao’s skull and that Ying Rong Xiao killed Ge Miao! This is evidence! You need to help me clear my name with the police! I’m innocent! The Logistics Department wasn’t my decision!”
Lan Qingqing nodded on the surface but inwardly scoffed at his claims of innocence; Ke Wenjie and Ying Rong Xiao were cut from the same cloth—equally despicable!
She turned away to search for the key and once she confirmed its location, began looking for a relatively safe hiding spot within the villa. The maids’ room was the most concealed area; neither the maids nor Ying Rong Xiao would enter there.
Next, she used a newly registered phone number to call Hou Yi.
As the phone rang several times, anxiety gripped her heart. She thought desperately, Please don’t hang up, Hou Yi! He had blocked all her previous contact methods; she had registered a new number just to reach him.
Finally, the call connected. “Don’t hang up!” Lan Qingqing urged quickly. “It’s me, Lan Qingqing! I found Ke Wenjie! You said you liked Tong Le; surely you want revenge against Ke Wenjie? I can hand him over to you for whatever you want to do with him—but you need to come pick us up safely.”
In the dead of night, Lan Qingqing hid in the maids’ room and waited for Ying Rong Xiao’s car to leave the villa.
At this moment, only she and Ke Wenjie remained in the villa. She stepped out from the maid's room and sent a message to Hou Yi: "Ying Rong Xiao has left. Wait until her car is gone before you come in!"
Hou Yi replied, "I'm already nearby. If I find out you're lying to me, I'll encase you in concrete and use you as a bridge support."
Lan Qingqing responded, "Don't worry, I won't deceive you."
