Sitting at the dining table with his swollen lips, Song Bunan felt as if he should just find a crack in the ground to hide in. He couldn't understand how Xin Yi had managed to recover completely overnight from a lip injury that had left him with a swollen mouth. The only thing left was the unhealed wound on the inside, which was invisible from the outside. Instead of disappearing, the wound had turned into an ulcer, making his lips even more pronounced. 0

From the moment he stepped through the Jiang Family's door, everyone who passed by him wore a look of schadenfreude. Even Uncle Meng subtly smiled and gave him a thumbs-up. When he finally faced Xiao Mei, the little brat didn't even pretend to hold back, laughing so hard that it almost lifted the roof off. Song Bunan was speechless, and he obediently accepted the special medicine patch Shui Su handed him, rolling his eyes as he asked Xin Yi to help stick it on the ulcer. 0

"Good, good, good," Xiao Mei laughed until he couldn't stand up straight, clutching his stomach and exclaiming, "I even bet with Shui Su that you wouldn't score so quickly! But look at your little mouth; it’s so swollen! Did you flatten the bed board last night?" 0

"Shut up!" Song Bunan felt his lips go numb from the medicine patch and, hearing the teasing, couldn’t help but blush. He didn’t care about his impaired speech and retorted directly, "No one else is like that! I have a sister! A sister!" 0

"Really? I don’t believe you." The kid wore a mischievous grin, showing off his big teeth as he deliberately posed with a delicate gesture to mock him for being too shy to admit it. He then turned to ask Xin Yi for details about last night. 0

"It was just a kiss," replied the oldest man in the room calmly. Even with his lips numbed by the patch, he articulated clearly and handed a teacup to Song Bunan, signaling him to take a sip of water. 0

Though it wasn't the answer he wanted to hear, it at least indicated that his brother was becoming more aware. Xiao Mei put away his smile and feigned seriousness as he patted Song Bunan on the shoulder, lowering his voice to say, "Bro, I’m really happy for you finding true love. Now tell me, how did you manage to make your lips look like that? Hahaha..." 0

He couldn't keep up the act; it was impossible. Xiao Mei burst into laughter again, even Shui Su beside him couldn’t help but chuckle, sighing helplessly as he gestured for Xiao Mei to calm down while showing no intention of restraining himself. In contrast, Song Bunan appeared unfazed as if to convey that it was just a kiss—nothing more. 0

That was enough. Song Bunan playfully pinched Xiao Mei's cheek. After the kid nimbly dodged away, they chased each other for a few steps before tumbling onto the ground in a tangle of limbs—one pinching cheeks while the other twisted arms—like two puppies frolicking together. 0

This was their usual routine. Uncle Meng gracefully sidestepped their flailing limbs while carrying some snacks prepared for them and walked into the house. He informed Shui Su and Xin Yi that lunch would be seafood hot pot and they could snack on something now. As he exited, he elegantly avoided another playful jab and waved goodbye to the two at the table with a smile. 0

"My dad once saw this scene and asked me how old they were," Shui Su said lightly as he blew on his cup of tea, revealing an unexpectedly mature smile while gazing affectionately at Xiao Mei. 0

Xin Yi glanced over at the group and smiled for the first time today as she said, "It is indeed rare; I originally thought Song Bunan just looked young." 0

"Get used to it," Shui Su said, clinking glasses with him. "Whenever those two get together, there's bound to be a show." 0

The battle ended when Uncle Meng brought in a plate of freshly baked cookies, still warm and steaming. The two who had been twisted together like a pretzel just a moment ago instantly separated and sat up straight, looking eagerly at Uncle Meng as he approached. 0

The cookies were soft and came in three flavors: chocolate, cream, and matcha, topped with marshmallows and chocolate chips. The sweet aroma quickly filled the room. Song Bunan was the first to grab two pieces, popping the chocolate flavor into his mouth while passing the matcha one directly to Xin Yi. Xiao Mei leisurely sipped her tea, and as she watched Song Bunan start to chew, her hands moved swiftly to dump the rest of the plate into her small pocket, leaving only a cream-flavored cookie for Shui Su before she dashed away. 0

Seeing his cookies disappear, Song Bunan didn’t care that he still had something in his mouth; he chased after Xiao Mei, and soon their figures vanished from sight. Xin Yi looked curiously at Shui Su, who was a bit younger than him but smiled politely, saying that this was more normal. 0

So normal that once the two ran off out of sight, Uncle Meng returned with another plate of fresh cookies featuring even more flavors and options. He remarked that it was indeed necessary to use the ordinary ones to entice guests so they could truly appreciate his skills. 0

This didn’t seem quite normal to Xin Yi. He felt somewhat out of sync with the family’s way of thinking. Shui Su waved his hand dismissively, indicating not to take it too seriously; it was just those two who were usually a bit odd. 0

"When you went to the Gu Family, what demands did they make?" Once the room was left with just the two of them, Xin Yi finally asked about the last mission's details. Shui Su didn’t hide anything, saying that he considered those managing things there as colleagues. Their goal was to complete an experiment and provide him with an opportunity for immortality; capturing so many people was merely part of achieving that objective. As for those who betrayed their organization... 0

"If we view them as individuals pursuing what they desire by leaving their original affiliations, is that really wrong?" Shui Su’s words didn’t convince Xin Yi; he shook his head and expressed his understanding: 0

"But they put their former teammates and friends in danger, even selling their lives. Is that also correct?" 0

"No, that's where their problem lies. To use myself as an example: if I agreed to their experiment and had an interest in immortality, I would naturally leave my current career to join them. But my choice would be to go alone, not drag others along with me. Many in the lab are just ambitious but lack brains; they’re nothing more than loose sand." 0

"But this sand has indeed caused many deaths," Xin Yi replied. 0

Shui Su nodded and finished his tea in one gulp. He met Xin Yi's gaze and said, "My next plan may lead to even more deaths." 0

"Are you sure it will succeed?" Xin Yi did not care about the number of dead. 0

"Of course," Shui Su replied. "We can ensure they disappear forever." 0

Outside, the shouts of two people grew closer. Xin Yi asked what they needed to do for the plan. Shui Su's gaze drifted toward the window, his eyes holding a depth that Xin Yi could not decipher. He said, "You all just need to do what you are supposed to do." 0

As soon as he finished speaking, Song Bunan and Xiao Mei walked in, arms linked and laughing, as if the chaos outside had nothing to do with them. 0

"What are you talking about?" Song Bunan asked, noticing the easy rapport between the two and curiously leaning in as if wanting to eavesdrop. Xiao Mei giggled and sat down, her eyes darting between them. 0

Xin Yi reached out to pluck a leaf from Song Bunan's hair without answering. Shui Su took over with a smile, saying, "We were just discussing how there are two little dogs in this house, but they aren't us." 0

Xiao Mei was the first to react, lightly punching his arm and scolding him that he was the dog. Song Bunan made a face, feeling wronged, and huffed that his playful banter with Xiao Mei was a sign of affection. "Exactly!" At that moment, they united in their condemnation of him. 0

"When it's time for dinner, you two must tell me all about what happened at the Gu Family Old Residence. I'm so curious! I didn't sleep well last night." Song Bunan's cheeks puffed out like a hamster's as he finally calmed down to talk properly with them. Hearing this, Xiao Mei rolled her eyes and replied: 0

"You can't ask me; you have to ask Comrade Shui Su. He was online the whole time." 0
