I mentioned that the bar operates on a membership basis, and typically, high-end establishments require identity registration. The clientele is usually affluent, and as a regular at Zhou Peiyao's table, I am quite familiar with this.
I also revealed that about two or three months ago, the person in charge of my booth was replaced by Zheng Xin, and since then, I have had frequent interactions with him.
During the interrogation, Chen Zhiyuan asked if I had noticed any unusual behavior from Zhou Peiyao at the bar.
I replied that aside from ordering and settling the bill, I had no other contact with her.
Chen Zhiyuan further inquired about the last time I saw Zhou Peiyao.
I recalled that it was about a week ago and mentioned that there should be transaction records in the bar for verification.
However, when asked if I had discovered any illicit dealings at the bar, I stated that I had not heard of such things while there.
Chen Zhiyuan seemed to think that I might not provide any more useful information and thanked me for coming all this way to assist with the investigation.
After the interrogation ended, I sat alone on a chair in the police station, reflecting on our earlier conversation.
My emotions were mixed.
Although I knew how Zhou Peiyao's parents treated her, hearing their words firsthand filled me with anger and disappointment.
At the same time, I felt confused about Zheng Xin's actions.
Why did he suddenly take over as the person in charge of my booth?
And why was he frequently interacting with me?
Had he discovered something?
But that couldn't be possible.
I had become someone else entirely.
Even if my parents stood right in front of me, they wouldn't recognize me; let alone a bar owner!
Shaking my head, I pushed those thoughts aside.
At that moment, something suddenly came to mind—
Hadn't I asked Chen Zhiyuan to help me investigate the cause of Zhou Peiyao's death last time?
I wondered how his investigation was progressing.
With that thought, I walked to Chen Zhiyuan's office and knocked on the door. "Officer Chen? Are you there?"
"Come in," he replied.
I opened the door and stepped inside. "Officer Chen, last time I asked you to help me look into Zhou Peiyao's death. How is the investigation going?"
Chen Zhiyuan nodded. "We've made some progress. We found the owner of the bar 'Encounter' where Miss Zhou worked, and we're preparing to question him."
"Oh? Who is it?"
Chen Zhiyuan pulled out a photo for me to see. "This person is named Zheng Xin. He's your boyfriend, right?"
"Yes." I was taken aback.
In truth, I didn't know Zheng Xin's true identity; I only knew he was my boyfriend and benefactor.
I never expected him to be the owner of a bar.
"Do you know this bar?" Chen Zhiyuan asked me.
I thought for a moment. "I've heard of it, but I'm not very familiar with it."
In fact, I had never been to that bar at all. I had only heard others mention it.
"Alright," Chen Zhiyuan said, "would you be able to join us at the bar to investigate?"
I thought for a moment. "Sure."
"By the way, Miss Wang Chen," Chen Zhiyuan suddenly asked me as he dropped me off at the police station, "haven't you been going to work lately?"
I was taken aback. "No, I've been packing my things, preparing to return to the capital."
"Returning to the capital?" Chen Zhiyuan looked a bit surprised. "Are you leaving the city?"
"Yes," I nodded.
In fact, I had long wanted to leave this rundown city.
Not only did I have to squeeze onto crowded buses every day, but I also had to deal with all sorts of strange customers.
Most importantly, I was afraid that one day someone would recognize me.
"Is there any special reason for this?" Chen Zhiyuan asked.
I thought for a moment. "Not really, it's just that I've reached the age for marriage, and my parents hope I'll return soon and settle down."
